Ariel already had her high tops on, and I grabbed my UGGS. Aster slipped on his sneakers, along with Charlie. Holly burst into the kitchen, confused and half asleep. 

“Aster? Fawn? What's going on? Ariel, Charlie, I didn't see you, sorry.” She stepped into her boots and handed Aster and Ariel their coats since Charlie was already wearing hers, and I was wearing my oversized “Wednesday” Hoodie. We burst outside, just in time to see My birth mother, standing on the lawn, keeping Sedge captive.

“Let him go!” I yelled. Although my magic was rusty, I knew some powerful spells. 

“Or else what?” My Mother cackled. I grimaced. She sounded like one of those bad guys from Kids' shows, and she looked the part too. Wearing a black cloak, and knee-high purple high-heeled boots, she looked so evil. 

“Joanne. Don’t do this.” Holly pleaded. “He’s gone through so much already.” 

Aster took his stance, next to Ariel. I stood in front of Charlie, as to protect her. Holly was practically crying now, trying to guilt-trip Joanne. 

“Enough!” I shouted.
