It has been a few months since I began training alongside my dad. The decrease in monster activity has allowed him to allocate more time for our training sessions. While there are still sporadic instances of activity, now not all four of them have to go and only a pair of them need to confront the threats before returning, and our parents and Ilva's parents alternate daily to avoid exhaustion.
My dad has been teaching me a plethora of techniques to enhance my wind manipulation skills. I've learned how to create wind arrows, increase air pressure, and he even shared his wind armor spell, which grants him intangibility. However, I am far from achieving even a fraction of that level of mastery.
Luna informed me that Ilva harbors jealousy towards me because I possess two bloodlines and appear to be having a lot of fun, while she is yet to unlock her beast bloodline. Apparently, she constantly pesters her parents about when she will acquire powers like theirs.
Luna also explained the concept of the beast bloodline. It involves harnessing powers from ancient deities, mythical creatures, and important historical figures. These powers are classified into five tiers, similar to the spirits. The lowest tier is mortal level, followed by ascended level, and then low-tier god level—these are the most common power levels. The other two tiers are high-tier gods and, finally, the strongest, the primordial level. Both Luna and Farkas borrow their power from beings in the high-tier gods level. To acquire such powers, one must demonstrate talent, prove themselves worthy, or show dedication to becoming stronger in some way. Once you borrow power from a specific entity, you are unable to utilize power from another being.
Anyways today, I'm attempting to invoke wind armor again, but it continues to elude me. Frustrated, I decide to shift my focus onto more pressing matters, such as reclaiming the ability to use my wings. Despite months of effort, I'm still unable to activate them, but I sense that I'm inching closer to unlocking their potential.
Several hours later, I return home and head to my room for a quick nap, as the mental strain has become overwhelming. When I come downstairs, I discover my dad lying on the floor, bleeding from his head, while my mom lies unconscious, with blood seeping from various injuries. I stand there, momentarily shocked, but quickly regain my composure and rush out the door, sprinting towards the neighboring house. Although it isn't far, the distance between the houses seems magnified five-fold. As soon as I reach the door, I knock urgently.
"Hey Akio, what do you need?" Luna asks, noticing the distress in my eyes.
"Help, please," I plead, tears streaming down my face.
"With what?" Luna inquires, still perplexed.
"M-my parents... they're on the floor, bleeding," I stammer, struggling with my words.
I witness Luna's expression change in a way I've never seen before. Before anything else, she disappears with Farkas in a gust of wind, rushing towards my home. I follow suit, but it appears as if Luna and Farkas have teleported instead of just traversing the distance. Ilva also attempts to join us, but all of us move much faster, leaving her behind in the dust.
"Damn it! Who could have done this?!" Farkas growls with a tone that sends shivers down my spine.
Luna's face matches Farkas' tone. As I reach my house, I see Luna offering a bottle to my parents. Just as Ilva arrives, a deep growl emanates from the forest, unsettling us all.
A boy wanders into the woods near his home. He becomes separated from his friend and starts roaming around the woods until he discovers a clearing. In that clearing, a dying beast is lying on the floor. Curious, the boy approaches, and the beast offers its heart to him. The boy takes the heart, and thus begins his journey with the beast's powers.
