“My darling, you’re here,” Meredith Von Camper called to her son, excited. She hadn’t seen Sean in years, he looked like a man now. Her little boy was all grown up, he stood tall and handsome just like he father did at that age. A beautiful chiseled jawline, tan skin and broad shoulders.
“Mother,” he smiled as he picked her up, “you’re as gorgeous as ever.”
“Stop, put me down” she giggled.
She blushed a little. Meredith knew it was her son but ever since she’d taken to the bottle for sympathy any compliment, let alone one from a gorgeous man like her son filled her heart with joy.
“Come on, your father is waiting in the drawing room” she smiled, “He’s looking forward to seeing you”
Skeptical Sean followed his mother regardless to see the false excitement of his father. After all, he knew the reason his father sent him away and there was no reason apart from his mother’s pleas that would bring him back.
“I know you don’t believe me, but I swear it was his decision this time” Meredith went on, “He asked for you to come home” she looked at him “to come here,” she smiled. Sean raised an eyebrow but said nothing, there was no reason to upset his mother. He was home, and she was happy.
The double doors to the drawing room opened, and there his father sat in the corner of the room sipping from a teacup, his long legs crossed looking into the garden.
“Welcome boy,” he turned to face his son and wife with his usual stoic expression.
“Boy” Sean thought to himself, for the last twenty years of his life he was known to his father as “Bastard”
“Father,” Sean nodded as he gave him his charming smile. “It has been a while.”
Sean sat on the sofa next to his mother and waited for his father to speak, after what felt like an eternity his mother asked, “Did you get here okay?” Sean could tell she was nervous from her shaky hands.
Sean smiled and said “Of course I did, I’m sitting right here,” he kissed her on the cheek. Meredith had no idea where her son learned to be this charming but she was happy he ended up the way he did.
“Father, Mother, I need to freshen up, if you’ll excuse me for a moment,” as Sean started to get up.
“That’s fine darling, go on ahead” He bowed his head at walked towards the door. The butler, Giles, was waiting to show him to his room.
“How could you still be so cold?” Meredith snapped at her husband. “You’re the one who wanted him back”
She stood up and walked towards the drink cart.
“I thought we were having tea,” Sean Clyde smirked.
Meredith poured herself a glass of chardonnay and finished the whole glass at once.
“You couldn’t even last an hour, could you?” Sean Clyde grimaced as he headed for the door.
Meredith poured herself another glass and sank into the chair holding back her tears.
