I suppose as to be expected, we were stopped almost the split second that I placed a foot on O’ Dubghall property. With a whirlwind of leaves, the humanoid treeish form of a dryad appeared in front of me and Eamon, looking very concerned about my presence. Which I got a lot from dyads. I don’t always take it personally.
“Uuh Eamon...what are...what’re you doing with...” The dryad began, but Eamon cut him off.
“Hey Angus, don’t worry bout my friend here. He’s gonna help me investigate all those weird noises and sights people keep complaining about.” Eamon gestured to me and I gave a polite wave, Angus returned it, though was side eyeing Eamon looking very unsure.
“Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Angus muttered, looking back at me. I waved again, not sure what else to do. “What if your father or mother find out?”
He waved away Angus’ concern. “It’s fiiine, everything’s fiiiine. They won’t even find out, I promise. It’s no big deal anyway.”
Side eyeing me once more, so I waved again, he waved back, Angus finally sighed. “I hope you know what you’re doing, Eamon.”
Eamon grinned mischievously. “Never.”
I kept the situational irony of that statement to myself, I didn’t want to upset everyone.
Angus shook his head. “Whatever. If you get caught, with...” Another side eye, another wave. “Your guest.” He didn’t wave this time. Good, I was starting to feel weird about that. “I didn’t know about it. Got it?”
“One hundred percent.” Eamon said, with an okay sign. Without another word, Angus flittered away into a tree. Eamon huffed, shaking his head, with his fists on his hips. “Jeeze. He’s not usually such a narc.” turning towards me he added. “Sorry about all that, that was sorta bizarre.”
I shrugged dismissively, being used to the ‘necromancer side eye’ treatment. “Maybe he was just having a bad day.”
“Doesn’t mean he gets to be a weird jerk.” Eamon huffed.
“So what exactly have people been seeing?” I attempted to change the subject.
“Spooky noises, unicorn clops, someone wailing ‘Turn back’ but no unicorns been out that way, and it’s been going on a bit too long for your normal teen prank.”
“Hmm...” Something did come to mind, but it was a little hard to consider at the moment. But if I was right, then it was a good thing Eamon brought me. “Show me.”
Eamon beamed, making a grandiose bow and gesture. “Right this way, sunshine.”
