Azrael woke up on a deluxe bed with a big yawn. Rays of sunlight filled his room. The bright room was the typical teenage boy's room. A bed in the far back. Posters on the wall. A game set on one end of the room and a wardrobe on the other opposite end. The walls were painted black and most things in the room followed suit with either blank or white.
'What a refreshing morning.' Azrael thought and smiled just for a while.
He got from bed and went to the bathroom. He had a cold shower and was dressed in school uniform. He walked out of his room and went downstairs where the sweet aroma of breakfast filled the house. He sat there when he noticed only his mother was downstairs.
"Mom. Where are Dad and little sis?" Azrael asked. His voice was deep and hoarse.
A silhouette of a woman could be seen in the kitchen through the door. She seemed busy with different utensils in her full hands.
"They are not awake yet. Could you wake them up for me Azzie?"
"Okay...but don't call me that. I am way older now." Azrael said with a look of embarrassment rising slightly visible from his blushed cheeks.
"Not to mamma. Hurry now." She said.
'I probably never will be in her eyes. I might as well start getting used to it.'
"Sure."
He went up and called out to the rest of his family members.
"WAKE UP!"
More like he shocked them awake with his loud deep voice.
"I'm awake!" A high-pitched voice came from the right which was his sister's room. Not long after was the sound of something hitting the floor.
Bang!
His little sister had the worst experience of waking up and downright falling out of bed. This made Azrael chuckle a bit before quickly adjusting his face.
"Brother!" As she got out of her room she was furious.
Her puffed cheeks meant to look angry only looked cute and pinchable to Azrael. She had a similar look to that of Azrael. However, the differences were distinct.
She had puffy rosy cheeks and a smooth round face. Her black messy hair covered it adorably. Her huge round eyes were like blue diamonds as they stared at Azrael. She had cute small ears and a nose.
"Good morning, little sis," he answered her call with an innocent morning greeting.
"I said you should call me Lily."
"But you are my little sister."
"Hmph." Even her little pout was cute.
His father followed after and left the master bedroom. He however looked drowsy as if not completely awake. His eyes were half opened and he was still in his baggy pajamas. He was like the matured or older version of Azrael. He looked around his late forties. Not very young but not too old.
The three of them walk down and sat down at the dining table. A table that had claimed seats for each one of them. A family of four. They had their breakfast quietly and mother did the dishes.
"Son. Get ready I will drive you to school."
"I am, Dad."
"Not that. I mean, say your goodbyes." He sighed and scratched his head. He looked somehow uncomfortable.
"I will," Azrael responded.
Soon, everyone gathered together in the sitting room. A huge spacious and well-decorated room. It was modeled in the modern style in the 2030's edition of Comfort and Convenience. Azrael stood at the exit next to the corridor.
"Dad, Mom, sis, I have to go now. I promise to miss you all. I will be back next holiday." He said sincerely.
"We should have gotten used already but it still feels like the first time we sent you off to school. I will miss you my little Azzie." Mother said, tears threatening to fall.
Sister Lily was making faces at Azrael in redemption. She was satisfied with this little embarrassment of her brother. Her little revenge for making her fall off the bed in the morning.
"Bye-bye, Bro."
"Bye, Mom and Sis." He said as he took his mother for a hug and his little sister joined in.
No matter whether Lily was mad not at her brother, she still loved him. Testament of this is her little tears stained her pretty face. Her mother's face was no different.
"Let's get going kiddo," Father said picking up his car keys.
Azrael was released from the hug and he turned away to leave. He didn't look back. He walked and got into the front seat beside the driver's seat.
The drive to school was quiet as non talked to the other. Both father and son didn't idle chatter. Their personalities were similar in that sense, it was easier to remain silent.
They got to Azrael's school. A magnificent wide and tall mansion-like building stood far behind the iron gates. Besides the building on the left and right were two high-floored blocks of similar magnitude. They were the dormitories. The right for was girls while the left was for boys.
Once the car got in the gates it proceeded to drive to the left. Azrael took his things and left after giving his father a farewell handshake. He took his small suitcase and walked into the building with an expressionless face.
On the second floor, he found his dormitory. It was a shared department. However one had the freedom to choose who to share with. It needed consent from both parties to share a room. The remainder would always be arranged randomly.
Azrael in this case had a roommate who willingly shared a room with him. Alexander. As soon as he pushed the door open he found Alexander laying on his bed, his eyes closed as if peacefully asleep.
"Hi, again buddy," Alexander said while his eyes still closed.
"Hello."
"How are you feeling? Back to school and all."
"Never been better," Azrael answered his questions with a bored voice. He unpacked his belongings and lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling. He thought of how he had woken up in the morning. He stared in a daze.
'Was my whole life a lie? Was it all in my head?' These thoughts rushed back and forth in Azrael's mind.
For the first time he felt so fresh and free...yet so empty. Something was missing. Like a part of himself had left him.
'What is it?'
His thoughts then went to a certain voice he would hear beside his ear every morning. He had woken up thinking he had been cured of his hallucinations. However, that didn't seem to be the case. He started missing the voice. It felt familiar.
"What's up, boys? Missed me? What is the gloomy mood?"
A girl busted into the room breaking Azrael's line of thought.
