The opportunity to escape didn’t come for several days. Nave and Fade had continued to feed him, although he had no intention of eating anything else they gave him after that “joke” Nave pulled- but other than that, they appeared to not care at all about him. They treated him like a pet. But he knew they were watching him. Tyura was watching them too.
Occasionally, Fade would leave, sometimes for one day sometimes two, and come back from wherever with a bag of items. They always closed the door, leaving Tyura in the bedroom as they sorted through their goods. Probably things they had stolen from their victims.
At the moment, Nave was fitting a pair of trousers on him that were a bit too big. They were made from silk although a bit dirty, he could tell it was fine quality.
The clothes were completely different from the rough dull clothes that Fade and Nave had stolen from the elderly couple. So there were also people who could afford fine silks. So perhaps there were nobles? Kingdoms?
Regardless, wherever Fade got these clothes from, it was only a days walk away.
Tyura glanced at Fade. He was watching Nave pull the pants up. He rubbed his lower lip before shaking his head.
“It’s fine like that. We have to go.” Fade said walking over to us. He grabbed Tyura away from Nave and gave him a once over.
The silk pants were baby blue but the top was lavender and lace, something a girl would wear. Frankly, Tyura thought he looked ridi-
“Ridiculous.” Fade mumbled.
Nave shrugged and stood wiping her hands on her skirt.
“It looks good enough to me.”
“Of course it does to you. If you weren’t too busy playing around we’d have been done by now!” Fade marched over to the door and peered outside. He clicked his tongue and mumbled a quick “Wait outside.” Before going to the room.
Tyura stood quietly next to Nave but his thoughts were racing. He glanced at her. She was absentmindedly staring off into the distance.
Can I take her? Tyura thought wearily. He still didn’t know what her powers were, if she had any at all. And there was also the limitation of his child body.
No, it was still too dangerous. If only-
“Nave where’s the stupid wig!” Fade yelled from inside.
She turned towards the front door.
“How would I know! You're the one who brought it!”
“Well you're the one who was playing dress up and messing up all the items.”
Nave gritted her teeth and threw the door open briskly walking inside. The yelling continued and Tyura was left there. Alone.
Was this… some sort of trap?
Trap or no trap this was his chance. Tyura didn’t think too long about it. He listened to their yelling only a moment longer before taking off in the direction he often saw Fade coming from.
He stormed through the forest as fast as his short legs would go. He didn’t have a map, all he knew was that about a day away from where he was there was some sort of civilization. It wasn’t much to go on but it was enough.
He didn’t know where he would end up but anywhere was better than with those murderers.
After about ten minutes of running he had to stop. Breathing heavily he leaned against a tree. To be honest he was surprised he could run for that long with this body.
He rubbed his shoulder. It hadn’t completely healed but now it was starting to ache.
No Tyura couldn’t think about the pain right now. He had to keep moving.
He was sure that Nave and Fade would have noticed he was gone by now. His only advantage was that they wouldn’t know which direction he had run in.
Tyura had only started running for a few more minutes when he heard a noise ahead of him.
He picked up speed and saw a white and gold carriage speeding down a path a little below him. They were approaching fast. Eventually they would pass by him.
Tyura’s eyes widened as he rushed forward to wave them down, but his exhausted limbs had become clumsy.
His foot caught on a stick and he was sent tumbling down the small slope face first onto the road.
