The room was very dark with only a glimmer of light forcing itself through the little space that dark curtains created for it. The only way to navigate through the room was from the light coming from the space in the bathroom.
“She’s here,” Sean thought to himself with a sigh of relief
He waited for a while, listening as she washed herself. He could hear the water splashing on the floor as she moved around to get comfortable. He imagined her lathering up her wash cloth and running it down her hands, then down the side of her hips. Touching every curve and corner of her beautiful body. His thoughts were getting erratic and he could feel himself getting stiff. He snapped back to reality and left her chambers immediately.
Ophelia knew there was someone in her room, she assumed it was Sean senior so she took longer to get out of the tub. This was her life now. No matter how smug she acted in front of Meredith; her only safe space was the inside of the tub. That was the only reason she hadn’t attempted to…, because they would take it away from her, like they did everything that brought her comfort or peace.
After she heard the person leave, she got out of the bathtub, drained it, put on a robe, laid in bed and prayed for a peaceful death. When she woke up, she wasn’t upset because she knew God was not that merciful, at least not to her. Ophelia tried to lay in bed as long as she could, the maids would always come and help her after she had a rough night. Specific maids were allocated to her, because she was special. If she didn’t have anyone to care for her, she would be a danger to herself and others and the masters of the house couldn’t have that. She had a debt to pay.
The girl that was sent up to her room today walked in cheerily and went straight to open the curtains first. Her task was to clean up around Ophelia but not to wake her or touch. Ophelia was wide awake laying still on the bed, when the girl pulled the curtains.
“What the hell are you doing?” she screamed at the girl. Silent the girl stood frozen in the corner. Ophelia reached for the closest thing she could find, a half empty bottle of red wine and flung it in the direction the light was coming from. “Close it, and get the hell out!” She screamed.
Meredith was passing by the East wing when she heard the commotion and saw the girl run out. The girl saw Meredith and tried explaining herself. She rolled her eyes and sighed then rang for the head maid to her home office.
“Why would you send a new girl into her room?,” Meredith spoke calmly with authority like the lady of the house she was. It was a wonderful contradiction to her violent slurring. Ms. Carson and the new girl stood by the door with their heads bowed.
“Teach her how to deal with the girl, or have someone who already knows take care of her,” She glared at them “but don’t let this happen again, Sean is home and I do not want him to witness something so unsightly”
“What’s unsightly?” Sean peeked into his mother’s office.
“My darling, it’s nothing that you should be bother you” Meredith beamed “How did you sleep?”
“Fine,” Sean smiled, he knew it was something to do with Ophelia but he won’t bother his mother for the details. “What time are we leaving for the charity thing”
“The Luncheon is at 3, we will be leaving at 2,” Meredith replied.
Sean nodded and left the room.
Meredith turned to the ladies, “You can leave now, but Agatha don’t let that happen again.” Ms Carlson nodded her head “Yes madam.”
Ms Carlson left the room fuming, these days she felt the young maids were ignoring her authority and she vowed to punish them all. She turned to the young girl, ”Get me the person that sent you to Ophelia’s room, NOW!” The girl nodded in fear and ran off to find the maid in charge of Ophelia.
