Saiya War

Etherion. The Gates of Heaven

Etherion. The Gates of Heaven

Jun 15, 2023

Author's Note: The writing style is different from the conventional novel style since this is what I'm most comfortable with so bear with me. I'll list some simple guidelines to help you with reading below.

() = Words within these are for a character's thoughts and not spoken out loud.

[] = These are location description or special type of speech.

Other guidelines will be within the Novel. Thanks for reading and please show your support by liking and subscribing, Thanks again.

(Karma awoke in a sterile laboratory, greeted by a woman with striking white hair seated at a nearby desk. Confusion clouded his mind as he pondered the vivid dream that had consumed his slumber.)

Karma: Huh? Just a dream? Of all things...

Bulma: Good morning.

(Startled, Karma reacted instinctively, leaping from the bed and clinging to the wall with his chains materializing in a defensive display.)

Bulma: Calm down.

Karma: Who are you?

(As Bulma gazed into Karma's eyes, she glimpsed unsettling visions of a future steeped in death, with Karma standing amidst the desolation of a blood-soaked battlefield, his expression devoid of emotion.)

Karma: Helloooo...

Bulma: Sorry, I spaced out for a moment. I'm Bulma.

(Elsewhere, inside a capsule, a figure twitched, disturbed by their interaction.)

Karma: (Bulma... Who is she? No, she's not human. She feels more like a machine.)

Bulma: Now, please lie down. You're not fully healed yet, despite our efforts.

Karma: Don't bother. It won't work.

(Karma drops onto the ground unimpressed. He quickly pulls out all materials attached to his body to monitor him. His response however left Bulma surprised.)

Bulma: What?

(Nova barges into the room and greets both of them with a smile.)

Nova: Good morning.

(Karma turns and looks at Nova with a discomforting face before replying.)

Karma: You're here.

Nova: Should you really be up and about?

Karma: I'll heal with time.

Nova: Any idea why your wounds won't heal?

Karma: Hell if I know. All I know is that recovery abilities don't work on me.

Nova: Well, no point in dwelling on it. Let's go. See you later, Bulma.

Karma: (This free spirited bastard).

(As Karma and Nova left the lab, located in a towering fifty-story building, they stepped into an elevator, descending to the lower floors before Karma finally broke the silence.)

Karma: Hey, Nova.

Nova: Huh? What's up?

Karma: Your body feels... different. It's like you're alive yet not alive at the same time.

(Nova turned to Karma excited and asks)

Nova: Ohh, did you sense my Hexen?

Karma: No, I can't do that.

(Nova's excitement quickly fades away and he returns to his original position.)

Nova: Hmm, I see. The reason you feel that way is because this isn't my real body. It's merely an Avatar I created. (He wouldn't even be able to sense my Hexen, though. I got excited for no reason.)

(Karma tilts his head slightly with a confused look. Karma ask another question which he was curious about.)

Karma: What with that girl we met earlier? Bu... Bla... Bi... But... (Bullshit? That can't be a name, right?.) Whatever her name is.

Nova: You mean Bulma?

Karma: Yeah, her.

Nova: Ah, you noticed she isn't human. Bulma is an Android with an artificial consciousness connected to her creator.

Karma: Creator?

Nova: She's someone sealed away in Etherion. (He doesn't even care about the Android part.)

Karma: Sealed?

Nova: She's labelled as a person who couldn't control her powers even with external help but that's all a farce. She's locked up cuz she created something without Etherion's permission due to her own curiosity.

Karma: (A rebel?) So, where are you taking me? And where the hell are we, by the way?

Nova: We're currently at the 6th Gate's Branch in Yokohama, Japan. We're going to get you cleaned up.

Karma: The 6th Gate? I thought you said we were going to Etherion? Or did I forget?

Nova: You seem to have terrible memory, Karma. Oh, I still haven't explained that?

Karma: No, you haven't. And I'm starving.

Nova: Alright then, I'll explain as we go. Etherion is a place that exists to discover talents across different realms of our Multiverse and beyond, and train them to maintain the Balance. However, Etherion isn't within this realm. It has existed since ancient times, tirelessly safeguarding the delicate equilibrium. Those who belong to Etherion are known as Saiya.

(Karma remains silent to show his lack of interest in the matter.)

Nova: Now, what about your family?

Karma: I have none.

Nova: Oh, seriously? I see. Karma, do you know why Etherion was formed?

Karma: How the hell am I supposed to know that?

Nova: I'll tell you then.

Karma {Annoyed}: Didn't ask you to.

Nova: In ancient times, there was a brutal and long-lasting war between humans, Divinities, and other threats to humanity.

[Divinities=gods]

Karma: What do you mean by 'other threats'?

Nova: I'm referring to Curses, Cursed Spirits, Demons, Monsters of Folklore, and Beasts of Legends, among others.

(Nova's words leave Karma speechless.)

Nova: It was an all-out catastrophic conflict. Amidst the chaos, a Divinity rebelled against its own kind, altering the course of the war. This entity united all the threats to humanity, becoming a dreaded pillar of fear and destruction. They mercilessly slaughtered numerous Divinities and Heroes of that era. At least, that's what we've been told.

(Karma nods in approval of the Divinity's decision)

Karma: Relatable.

Nova: Hahaha. You're growing on me, kid. Due to heavy losses on both sides, the war eventually lost its purpose, leading to the formation of the Divine Pact. Since the war took place on Earth, this pact prohibited any direct or indirect interference from Divinities in this realm, unless humans willingly called upon them for help, which still wouldn't grant them direct intervention.

Karma: So, it's like a ban.

Nova: Exactly.

Karma: How're sure they'll adhere to it?

Nova: You catch on quickly. The pact is nothing more than a facade, allowing Divinities to gather their lost powers and forces during the wars, preparing for a future comeback and claiming victory.

Karma: In other words, there's still going to be another war. (Perhaps this is my chance to escape).

Nova: Yeah and that's precisely why Etherion was established. Its purpose is to train individuals who can withstand the forthcoming war and protect the Balance. This realm we're in, known as the Origin Realm, served as the stage for the previous conflict. It is called the Origin Realm because it is interconnected with countless other realms where beasts, monsters, and Divinities exist. Essentially, this realm acts as the central hub of our Universe and Multiverse as a whole.

Karma: Is there anything special about this Realm for all of them to want it so bad?

Nova: Yes, as I said before, this realm is the center of our Multiverse. It boasts the highest concentration of Genesis Hexen, which grants Divinities continuous power growth just by existing here. However, humans are better suited to this realm, as most cannot absorb that power and disturb the delicate Balance.

Karma: So, war then?

Nova: Yes, war.

Karma: I hope you all die with the war.

Nova: Karma, let me ask you a question. Why do you live? What do you strive to achieve?

Karma: Why do I have to tell you?

Nova: No reason, just curious.

Karma: (Well, it doesn't matter.) I have to find someone. The bastard who put me through all those hellish years of torture and kill him myself. Until I do that, I won't die, not to you or anyone.

Nova: (Such intense bloodlust.) Well, it's good to have a goal at hand. Let's go, we'll finish up later.

(As Karma emerged from the building, he had transformed. His hair was trimmed, and he wore a black outfit, exuding a newfound aura that drew the attention of those around him. Nova, by his side, couldn't help but smirk.)

Nova: I didn't noticed before, but you're quite handsome, just like yours truly.

Karma: (What a self-centered dumbass.)

Nova: (How many would believe that the one they're swooning over is the feared Abomination? How ironic). Looks like you're ready.

Karma: Yeah, there's a saying that there's no such thing as a free meal. You want something from me, don't you?

Nova: Exactly.

Karma: (He's not even trying to hide it.)

Nova: To be precise, I don't want something from the current you, but from the future you, when you've become stronger. And for that reason, I need you to grow stronger.

Karma: "Just what do you want from me?"

Nova: You'll find out in due time. But first, you must pursue your own goals. You mentioned wanting to kill someone, right?

Karma: Yeah, he said he'd seek me out when I get strong enough.

Nova: That'll be difficult if you don't have something to focus on. How about this? I want you to become a Monarch.

Karma: Monarch?

Nova: It's a title given to beings who have surpassed and completely shattered their limits and attained transcendental powers.

Karma: Monarch, huh?

Nova: You don't know this but in Etherion, merit and achievements are everything. With accomplishments come nicknames, titles, and accolades that will steadily propel your growth to the top.

Karma: I see. Wait, how did you manage to convince everyone to stop hunting me after I killed so many people?

Nova: Well, it wasn't easy. Those stupid geezers all wanted you dead. But I didn't want you to die. So I proposed an idea to the higher-ups. If they were so determined to eliminate you, why not harness your strength? You're this strong, and with further training, you'll become even stronger. Your skills will benefit Etherion, and if you happen to die in the process, it won't be a loss for anyone. Of course, I had to make certain promises, but that's a topic for another time. So, what do you say? Will you join Etherion?

Karma: You make it sound like I have a choice. (As I suspected, this man holds a high position that cannot be disregarded by anyone. Even the people here treat him with utmost respect, as if he were a king).

Nova: It's either that or death.

Karma: I knew it.

Nova: Don't feel so bad about it, I won't hand you over to anyone else. I need you to grow stronger for my purpose as well. As a Saiya, your sole duty is to 'Destroy all threats to humanity.'

Karma: Got it. (This Nova guy... there's something strange about him. I feel strangely relaxed when I'm around him. Even during our fight, it was different from the others. I wasn't merely fighting for survival. I could even fall asleep in front of him while being hunted. Who would trust someone to that extent? Personally, I don't fully trust him, but subconsciously, he already has my complete trust. But one thing's for sure, with him around, things are going to be interesting).

Nova: First things first, you need to pass the entrance exam and become an Outer Member of Etherion.

Karma: An Outer?

Nova: An Outer is someone who works for Etherion but is not under the command of the Gates of Heaven. So you could be a Mercenary, Bounty Hunter or something along the lines.

Karma: Gates of Heaven? What are those?

Nova: Oh, I haven't told you about them?

Karma: Of course you haven't.

Nova: The Gates of Heaven refer to all the different squads tasked with defending and executing Etherion's authority. They are numbered from the 1st to the 10th Gates. The place we're currently in is the 6th Gate, a branch of the Gates of Heaven in this realm. The true Etherion is located in a different Realm. The Saiya are based in the Lumiere Kingdom of Etherion. But before you can advance there, you must prove your worth here.

Karma: This is all too complex

Nova: No it's not. Etherion is the Realm and Lumiere Kingdom the base where people live. Well, it's time for your test.
