When heralding souls Hermes rarely entered the Underworld, instead just leaving the souls at the gate. When he did visit he brought a gift for Hades, but would also "borrow" things from Hades in turn. Hades is usually not keen on visitors, but especially isn't happy whenever Hermes pops up.
