Memory of a Dream

Chapter 10 - Fencing club

Chapter 10 - Fencing club

Jun 19, 2023

Yoojin sat at the campus café, enjoying his chai latte and sandwich while chatting with his friends, Jaein and Calisto. They had just finished their cooking class and decided to grab a light lunch before heading to the fencing club to meet Jaein's brother, Jaeseong.

"How are you finding college life so far?" Jaein asked, taking a sip of her cappuccino.

Yoojin paused for a moment, thinking about the rude guy he had encountered earlier. "It's been... interesting." he replied, trying to sound nonchalant.

Jaein chuckled. "Yeah, it can be overwhelming at first. But it's also pretty exciting, don't you think?"

Calisto nodded in agreement. "Definitely. Although I have to admit, I'm a little nervous about starting classes next week."

Yoojin felt a twinge of anxiety at the thought of starting classes, but he tried to push it aside. "Yeah, it's nice to have some time to settle in and explore the campus."

Jaein nodded. "Speaking of settling in, did you guys enjoy our cooking class this morning?"

Yoojin blushed. "I was pretty nervous at first, but it turned out to be really fun. And I actually learned something."

Jaein chuckled. "That's great! Maybe you can teach me a thing or two. I'm not exactly a master chef."

Calisto grinned. "And I'm just here for the free food."

They all laughed, and the conversation turned to Jaeseong, whom Calisto and Yoojin were about to meet at the fencing club.

"I've heard he's pretty intense." Calisto said, looking a little nervous.

Yoojin was apprehensive about meeting Jaeseong, but he tried to remain composed. After all, he had promised Jaein the day before that he would meet her brother, and he couldn't go back on his word. "I'm sure he's amazing. I can't wait to see him in action." Yoojin said, trying to sound confident.

"Don't worry, my brother may look stern, but he's actually really protective and like a big teddy bear. He's incredibly talented and popular." Jaein reassured them.

Yoojin felt a pang of nervousness at the thought of meeting Jaeseong. He had never been very good at sports, and the idea of watching someone who was an expert made him feel a little intimidated. But he tried to push the feeling aside.

They chatted for a few more minutes while finishing their drinks before making their way across campus to the fencing club. Yoojin's heart was pounding, and he found himself feeling more and more uncomfortable as they walked, but he tried to act casual and keep up with the others.

When they arrived at the club, they saw two people dueling with each other. On the back of their jackets, there were the names of the fencers, and the one with their back towards them was Jaeseong.

Yoojin couldn't help but feel a little starstruck as he watched Jaeseong move with such grace and precision. He had never seen anything like it before.

Other students were there, especially girls, and they were watching the duel while commenting on how the two fencers were so strong and talented. Yoojin could understand why they were so impressed.

As the duel ended, the two fencers took off their masks. Jaeseong had a striking figure. He was tall and well-built, with a lean, muscular frame that spoke of strength and athleticism, without being overly bulky or intimidating. He had short, dark hair that seemed to gleam in the light.

He turned around, and Yoojin could see his face. His dark hazel eyes were piercing and intense. His finely chiselled features were sharp and angular, giving him an air of sophistication and refinement. His alabaster skin was smooth and unblemished. Despite his impressive physical appearance, it was his commanding presence that truly set him apart. He exuded confidence and authority, with a natural charisma that drew people to him like moths to a flame.

As he made his way towards them, Yoojin's heart sank. To his horror, Jaeseong was the same guy who had treated him so badly the day he arrived. Yoojin tried to stay calm, but he couldn't shake the feeling of unease. He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned to see Calisto looking at him with concern.

"Hey, are you okay?" Calisto asked.

Yoojin shook his head, feeling sick to his stomach. "No, I'm not feeling well. I think I need to go lie down for a bit."

Calisto nodded, looking worried. "Do you want me to come with you?"

Yoojin shook his head again. "No, it's okay. I just need some time alone."

He turned and walked away, feeling like a coward for running away. But he couldn't bear the thought of being around Jaeseong any longer.

As he made his way back to his dorm room, he tried to calm himself down. He knew he was overreacting. Jaeseong wasn't going to attack him. But the memory of their earlier encounter was still fresh in his mind, and he couldn't shake the feeling of being judged and found wanting.

When he got back to his room, Yoojin collapsed onto his bed and tried to slow his breathing. He knew he couldn't avoid Jaeseong forever. They were both attending the same college, after all, and they would probably run into each other again. But for now, he just needed to be alone and try to regain his composure.

He closed his eyes and tried to focus on his breathing, in and out, in and out. Slowly but surely, his heart rate began to slow down, and he felt a sense of calm wash over him. He knew he couldn't let his fear control him. He needed to face his problems head-on, no matter how scary they seemed.

Jaeseong felt stuffy inside his fencing mask, and he was relieved to finally take it off and feel the cool air on his face. As he walked over to his sister, he noticed that she was with two guys, one of whom he recognized as the person he had bumped into a few days ago.

He couldn't help but feel annoyed at the sight of the guy. He knew that he was only interested in him because of his wealth, status, and royal title. It was pathetic, really. The guy had no real ambition or drive, and he was just trying to latch onto someone successful. If he was genuinely interested in him, he would have asked him out. Instead, he tried to make a move on Jaein, who was kind-hearted and unsuspecting.

As Jaeseong approached the stands, he saw the guy had recognized him, and he could see the fear in his eyes. He almost felt sorry for him, but he couldn't shake the feeling of irritation. Jaeseong wasn't interested in someone who was only after his status. He had bigger things to worry about.

He sneered as he saw the guy run away. He had no respect for people who were too weak to stand up to him. As he arrived, he turned towards his sister, putting on a charming smile.

"Jaein, it's good to see you. How was your day?" Jaeseong asked, trying to shift his focus away from the guy who had run away.

Jaein smiled back, her eyes lighting up at the sight of her brother. "It was good. We had a cooking class with Yoojin and Calisto. They're both really nice. By the way, this is Calisto." She indicated Calisto, who nodded in greetings. "We were just schoolmates before, but we became friends thanks to Yoojin, whom I met on the train. I wanted to introduce Yoojin to you, but he wasn't feeling well, so he went back."

Jaeseong nodded, his gaze flickering over at Calisto. "I see. Well, it's nice to meet you." he said, putting on a polite smile as he extended his hand towards him.

Calisto looked at him with annoyance, but he shook his hand anyway. Jaeseong could tell that he wasn't impressed by his charm, but he didn't care. He wasn't interested in making friends with someone who was friends with Yoojin.

"Well, I hope they're not causing you any trouble." Jaeseong said turning back to his sister.

Jaein shook her head, looking confused. "No, of course not. Why would you say that?"

Jaeseong shrugged, trying to play it off. "Just a hunch. You know how protective I am of you."

Jaein rolled her eyes. "So, how's fencing going?" she asked, trying to steer the conversation away from any potential tension.

Jaeseong's face lit up at the mention of fencing. "It's going well. I have a competition coming up in two weeks, and I'm feeling pretty confident."

Jaein smiled. "That's great! I'm sure you'll do great."

Jaeseong nodded, feeling a sense of pride. He had worked hard to get to where he was, and he wasn't going to let anyone stand in his way. As they chatted, he couldn't help but feel a sense of protectiveness towards his sister. He knew that she was kind-hearted and trusting, and he didn't want anyone to take advantage of her. He would need to keep an eye on her friends, especially Yoojin. He needed to find out more about him and his intentions before it was too late.

He had a feeling that something was off about Yoojin, and he needed to find out what it was. He would need to keep a close eye on Yoojin and make sure that he wasn't up to anything suspicious.

"Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the campus." Jaeseong said, turning back to Jaein. "Maybe we can all grab lunch together sometime."

Jaein nodded eagerly, and Jaeseong felt a sense of satisfaction. He may not have been interested in making friends with Calisto, but he was always happy to spend time with his sister.

Yoojin heard the door open and saw Jaein and Calisto come inside. "How are you? Do you feel better? Do you want me to call Ryūnosuke so he could check on you?" Jaein fired rapidly, sitting down next to him.

Yoojin was surprised but he chuckled. "Don't worry, I feel better." he said, smiling lightly.

"Is Jaeseong the rude Alpha who treated you badly when you bumped into him?" Calisto asked, frowning.

Yoojin was wide-eyed, like a deer in headlights. He wanted to lie to Calisto, but he knew that he would see through him, so he didn't even try and nodded shakily.

"Wait, my brother was the one that treated you badly? I can see him doing this, after all, from when we were children, there were many who approached us with an ulterior motive, especially for him, who is the crown prince. But he still shouldn't have treated you like this when he never met you." Jaein said, looking concerned.

Yoojin let out a sigh of relief that he didn't have to keep the truth from his friends. "It was just a misunderstanding, I guess." he said, trying to downplay the situation. "Maybe he was having a bad day or something."

Calisto raised an eyebrow, not looking convinced. "That's not an excuse to treat someone poorly." he said firmly. "Especially someone who didn't do anything wrong."

Jaein nodded in agreement. "I'll talk to him and make sure he apologizes to you." she said, determinedly. "Even if I understand why he did it, he can't just go around treating people badly like that."

Yoojin hesitated for a moment before speaking up. "Please don't say anything to him," he said, looking at Jaein. "I don't want to cause any trouble or make things awkward between you two."

Calisto and Jaein exchanged a concerned look. "Yoojin, you don't deserve to be treated that way." Calisto said, placing a reassuring hand on Yoojin's shoulder. "We want to make sure that he knows that his behavior was not okay."

Jaein nodded in agreement. "I understand that you don't want to cause any trouble, but I can't just let this go." she said firmly. "He needs to know that his actions have consequences."

Yoojin sighed, knowing that his friends wouldn't let it go. "Okay, fine." he said reluctantly. "If it happens again, then you can talk to him, but not before and please, don't make a big deal out of it."

Calisto and Jaein exchanged a look, but ultimately nodded in agreement. Yoojin could tell that they weren't completely satisfied with his answer. "We won't make a big deal out of it." Jaein said reassuringly. "But we want to make sure that you're okay."

Yoojin smiled gratefully at his friends. Even though he didn't want to cause any trouble, he was grateful to have friends who cared about him and stood up for him. He knew that he had a tendency to avoid conflict, but he was slowly learning that sometimes, it was necessary to stand up for himself. He was glad that he had friends who were willing to help him do that.

After their conversation, Yoojin, Calisto, and Jaein decided to spend the afternoon in their dorm room. They played board games and listened to music, which was a perfect activity for introverts like them.

As the evening approached, they decided to head to the student center for Trivia night which they were excited to participate. They arrived at the student center and found a table to sit at. As they were getting settled, Calisto's brother, Lucas, walked in.

"Hey, guys!" Lucas said, grinning. "What are you doing here?"

"We're here for Trivia night." Calisto said, smiling. "What about you?"
"I'm here to hang out with some friends." Lucas said, shrugging. "But I might join you guys for Trivia if that's okay."

"Of course!" Jaein said, smiling warmly. "The more, the merrier."

As they played Trivia, they laughed and joked around, enjoying each other's company. Yoojin even found himself feeling more comfortable and relaxed around Lucas, who had a similar outgoing and friendly personality to Jaein.

After Trivia night ended, they said their goodbyes to Lucas and headed back to their dorm room. Yoojin felt grateful for the fun and relaxing day he had spent with his friends, and he couldn't help but feel a sense of hope for the future. Maybe college wouldn't be so bad after all.

Hi everyone,

In this chapter, Yoojin finally meets Jaein's brother, Jaeseong, at the fencing club. Yoojin is impressed by Jaeseong's skills, but things take a turn for the worse when he realizes that the rude Alpha he bumped into was actually Jaeseong.

We also see Jaeseong's point of view in this chapter, where he recognizes Yoojin and thinks back on their meeting a few days ago. If Yoojin wasn't interested in his status, Jaeseong would have asked him out.

However, there is a little problem. As revealed in the synopsis, Jaeseong already has a fiancée. What is happening? Is Jaeseong a cheater? Or maybe he is in an arranged marriage and searching for someone on the side? To find out what happens next, you'll have to wait for the upcoming chapters.
