Emma was exhausted from her frantic escape from the dungeon and the night spent hiding in the forest. She had managed to find a small cave to rest in, but she knew that she could not spend too long there. So, she pushed herself to get back on the move, despite the fatigue that was still weighing her down. She was determined to get away and find a place of safety, no matter what it took. She was not giving up yet.
Emma continued through the forest, the sunlight now filtering through the trees and lighting up the path ahead. She could see the sun rising high in the sky, its warmth and light filling her body, and she felt a sense of relief that the night was over and she could see where she was going.
Emma suddenly heard a loud flapping sound in the air above her, and she turned to look. To her astonishment, she saw a huge eagle circling overhead, its vast wings outstretched as it flew overhead. The eagle swooped down towards her and landed on a huge nearby branch, its talons gripping the branch tightly as it looked down at her with its beady eye. Emma was stunned by this sudden appearance of the eagle, and she could feel the hairs on the back of her neck prickling up in surprise.
Emma watched as the eagle perched on the branch for a moment, before suddenly lifting its wings and taking flight once again. The eagle began to fly higher and higher, until it was only a small speck in the sky, and then it suddenly veered off and headed into the forest. Emma watched it go, wondering what had just happened and what it meant. She felt like that eagle had been a sign of something, but she didn't know what. She decided to follow where the eagle was headed, hoping it would lead her to something or someone that could help her.
The eagle had now flown deeper into the woods, and Emma was following it from a distance, trying to stay hidden and not be noticed by the eagle. She was desperate to follow the eagle, but she also didn't want it to know she was following it. So, she continued to keep a safe distance, slowly and quietly following the eagle through the forest. Hopefully her caution would pay off and she would be able to continue following the eagle without being discovered.
Soon, the eagle reached the edge of a small village, and Emma saw that there was a large house nearby. She remained hidden and watched as the eagle landed on the roof of the house. Its large wings outstretched as it landed with a soft thunk. It was a huge bird, nearly the size of a horse, and its talons and beak were very powerful so that it could hunt and carry off large prey animals like deer. Emma remained hidden and watched as the eagle landed safely on the roof, and she felt a sense of relief, hoping that the eagle would not notice her and would not attack her. She stayed hidden and watched as the eagle began to explore its surroundings, slowly and cautiously.
Emma watched as the eagle's eyes swept over the surrounding woods, taking in every detail. There was something about the way it seemed to search for danger and avoid any threats that made Emma feel that this was more than just another animal. She felt a sense of connection to the eagle, and she felt like the eagle was trying to lead her somewhere safe.
She continued to watch the eagle closely, hoping that it would lead her to some place where she could find help and shelter. Emma could see the village now. She could see some shops and houses scattered throughout the village. She felt like she was nearing her destination, and her heart started to race in anticipation.
This is it, she thought to herself. This is the place.
And suddenly, the eagle lifted into the air again, towards a house at the edge of the village.
The eagle was heading towards the house, and Emma followed closely behind, her heart beating fast in her chest. She was ready to face whatever came next, and she had put her complete faith in this eagle to guide her, hoping that it was leading her to her destination and to help she so desperately needed. The eagle landed in front of the house, with a solid thump.
This is it, Emma thought. This is the house.
She took a deep breath, gathering her courage, and she approached the house. She approached the door with her heart beating fast in her chest, and she knocked on the door. A moment later, the door opened, and a girl stood in the doorway. The girl rolled her eyes and said "Oh, you must be Emma!" as she faked a smile, but her facial expression was sarcastic.
Emma was nervous. "Yes, who are you?" she asked, confused.
The girl was sarcastically murmured "A stranger coming to my house and asking me who I am..." as she rolled her eyes again, and sighed with annoyance. "My name is Sally! Nice to meet you!" she said, faking a smile.
Emma looked at Sally, unsure of how to approach this girl. She looked like an unfriendly, mean person at first glance, and Emma was nervous about how the conversation might go.
Sally quickly spoke up. "So, you're a witch?" she said, raising an eyebrow.
It caught Emma off-guard. Emma was shocked by this sudden question, and she wasn't sure how to react or what to say. She began to feel even more nervous and uncomfortable.
"Where did you hear that?" Emma asked.
"Olive told me, " Sally said.
Emma was confused. "Do you know Olive?" she asked.
Sally rolled her eyes, and replied, "Of course I know her. I just mentioned her!" Her tone was annoyed, as if Emma had asked a stupid question, but she suddenly remembered that she had to be nice and she forced a fake smile on her face.
Sally's smile faded a little. "Olive did a great job bringing you here!" she said, but there was a hint of snark in her voice. "Also, you're not as pretty as she described you."
Emma was taken aback by this mean comment, but she said nothing. "What do you mean?" Emma asked.
"Olive! That giant eagle!" Sally said, explaining what she meant, and Emma realized that she was talking about the bird she had seen outside.
"Yes, I saw that giant eagle outside your house!" Emma replied, a bit taken aback by Sally's snarkiness, but she pressed on. "That eagle is Olive...?" she asked.
"Can you hear well? I just told you, " Sally replied.
Sally shrugged, then moved around the room taking a short walk. She turned back toward Emma after a moment "And it's your fault that she's an eagle!" she said, pointing at Emma.
"What do you mean?" Emma asked, confused. "How is it my fault?"
Emma was stunned by what Sally had said. How could it possibly be her fault that Olive had turned into an eagle? It didn't make any sense to Emma, and she began to wonder if Sally was just teasing her or if she was actually blaming her for what had happened. Emma felt hurt and confused, and her heart sank at the thought that she might be responsible for what had happened to Olive.
