Ola was enjoying herself more than Freda was, which was somehow not right. The red head glanced in the other woman's direction before she glanced downwards at Ola's hand holding onto the seat hand rest.
Freda didn't mind that Ola was immersed into the movie they were watching, but what she really had a problem with was the fact that the brunette had the whole bucket of popcorn in her lap.
And she wasn't even eating it in the first place. This was what ticked Freda the wrong way.
But she couldn't really do anything since she also wanted to watch the movie with all of her attention even though she would still glance over at Ola and the poor popcorn bucket.
The movie they had decided to watch had been a unanimous decision which shocked both of them, but Ola had easily recovered since the person behind the ticket counter had begun talking about her own girlfriend.
Freda had been nice enough to make small talk with the other woman whose name she had read out from her name tag as 'Hope'.
Ola, on the other hand, wasn't interested in how Hope and her girlfriend also loved the movie 'Interstellar,' she just wanted to watch the movie and then go home so that Freda would have enough time to make her favorite bratwurst.
"First date?" The woman behind the counter had asked excitedly as she had watched from Freda to Ola, with her excitement clear on her face. Ola wanted to answer but couldn't since her companion had already spoken up.
"Oh, we had our first date at a restaurant in our office building." Ola had squinted her eyes at the red head beside her but refrained from saying anything since she didn't really care.
You have to care, woman!
"Did you hear that?" Freda looked weirdly at the brunette beside her, who was frowning to herself at the moment.
Hope glanced at both of them before she finally – finally – gave them their tickets. "Thank you for coming to Crowd's Choice Saturday!"
Freda smiled back at the woman before she had hooked her arm with Ola's. The brunette simply let the red head drag her over to the hall which they had to get to without facing any difficulty. Usually, movie theatres would be bustling with people but since it was still quite early for the weekend, people still weren't up for any movies.
Freda had a popcorn bucket wrapped around her left arm as she had brought Ola to the hall, they were supposed to be in.
"I want to sit in the middle seats." Ola had mumbled as she directed the red head over to the middle seats. The hall had a few people there, which included two couples and two kids with a woman.
Ola and Freda had just settled down in their seats when the brunette had taken away the popcorn from her companion.
Freda didn't care at that moment since she knew that Ola would share, but she didn't know any better.
And now she did, as she glanced back at Ola again, who had placed her right hand inside of the bucket of popcorn just to move the kernels around. Freda had been finding the right moment to put her hand inside of the tub of popcorn and just 'accidentally' brush her hand against Ola's. And this was her opportunity which she had bravely seized.
Her hand had come up to go inside the popcorn bucket and immediately came in contact with Ola's soft skin.
She felt a giddy feeling rising up inside of her stomach as she tried to calm her beating heart down. It was just simple skin contact.
"Oh sorry." Freda had tried to play off the 'accidental' brush of her hand with Ola's as she retracted her hand without even getting any kernels, but as soon as her hand was out of the bucket, it was being held onto by both of Ola's hands along with her other hand.
"Why are your hands so warm?"
Another part of Freda's body had turned warm as she tried to downplay the blush on her cheeks while she looked at Ola's intense gaze. She wasn't even sure she remembered what Ola had even asked her. So, she let out a stutter. "W-What?"
"Your hands. They're very warm." Ola had repeated herself without any problem as she subtly rubbed the red-head's hands. "Mine are always so cold."
Freda nodded her head unconsciously since she could feel the coldness of Ola's palms. Somehow the red head wanted to believe that maybe hers were warm because she was always perspiring through her palms when she was nervous, but she didn't really want to admit that.
So, Freda just ended up shrugging her shoulders, her hands still in the clutches of the woman beside her.
Ola frowned again before she was merciful enough to let one of Freda's hands go. Freda had let go of a breath that she didn't even know she was holding. Now, only one of her hands was being held, and Freda didn't know what was making her giddier. Was it the way that Ola had held her hand unintentionally or maybe it was how the other woman had handed the popcorn bucket to the red head, finally.
"Hope's girlfriend was right." Ola had suddenly taken Freda's attention away from their conjoined hands to the other woman. "This is a first date movie."
Freda frowned as she looked over to the large projection and felt herself feel the dull ache, she had felt all those years ago when she had first seen the movie.
The movie was ending.
And as both of them were immersed in the ending, Ola didn't notice how she had indirectly accepted the fact that this was indeed a date, and how Freda hadn't even paid attention to what Ola really meant.
All the while, their hands were still joined together.
Yes, good work, woman!
Ola frowned as her attention turned away from the projection screen to her left side. She really needed to get that checked out.
Ola and Freda were now walking around a park near their apartment building. It was more like stalling because they didn't want to go back home yet. Well, that was mostly for Freda's case. Ola, on the other hand, was waiting for the red head to be ready to go back home.
They hadn't gotten anything to eat yet either and she wanted nothing more than to go back home and eat some homemade sandwiches, courtesy of her mother.
Yes, Ola was spoiled but it wasn't entirely her fault. It was more so because of the fact that her parents didn't want to have any more kids, so they just went ahead and pampered Ola more.
But the brunette wasn't all dependent on her mother. She knew how to do things too; she just wasn't able to do anything since her mother was always there taking care of everything.
Mrs. Shafi found it comforting to work for her daughter, even though it meant making her a little bit dependent on her. It was just her way of showing that she cared for and loved her daughter, even though most of the time she would diss her.
But the older woman still loved her daughter a lot.
"Thank you." Ola had no idea where that had come from as she looked at Freda with a confused expression. "For what?"
Freda didn't even know why she suddenly wanted to bring up the conversation as her eyes took in the greenery around her, as well as the sound of children's laughter from the nearby playground.
She halted her steps as she found a park bench underneath the shade of a random tree. Ola had just sat down beside the red head since she was still confused, and she was also tired from all the walking.
For someone who rarely left their house, Ola was a weak little person.
"You didn't ask me why I was crying that day."
"Did you want me to ask?" Ola was even more confused as she frowned, but that only brought more warmth to Freda, who smiled at the innocent question. "If you're curious, you can ask." The red-headed woman spoke with a smile as she looked at the woman beside her.
The scarf was wrapped around Ola's neck snuggly as Freda acknowledged how earthly colors looked so good on the brunette too.
Ola shrugged her shoulders. "It's your business."
That was something Freda had appreciated as she bravely brought her arm to hook into Ola's unsuspecting right arm. The brunette hadn't even seen the action coming as she found Freda's head resting onto her right shoulder.
A sudden thought crossed Ola's mind as she tried to push it away. It was the thought of her mother telling her about the two angels that sit on people's shoulders, writing away in their journals about all the things that the person speaks. The angel on the right shoulder writes all the good things the person had spoken, while the angel on the left shoulder writes the bad things.
Ola couldn't help but get herself out of the red-headed woman's hold quickly before going over to sit on Freda's right-hand side. Freda was at first confused and then her confusion quickly turned into regret.
But her regret was as short-lived as her confusion, as Ola had offered her left arm and shoulder to the red-headed woman.
Freda didn't want to question Ola's odd action since her advancements weren't being rejected. Well, that was just because Ola didn't know they were romantic advancements in the first place.
Everything that Freda did, looked like something that a female friend would do, to Ola. So, she just let Freda be the one female friend she had.
The red head had placed her head onto Ola's left shoulder as she felt herself sigh out in tranquility. There were so many sounds that surrounded them, like the children playing nearby, the cars passing by on the road, or even the slight noise from a construction site nearby.
There were even the sounds of people talking amongst each other that drifted into Ola and Freda's ears, but they didn't mind.
Well, Ola did mind, but she didn't voice out her slight problem. She was just hungry, but she was also somehow fine sitting there with the red head. Ola somehow found the silent moments with the red-head peaceful and comfortable.
For someone who preferred silence over small-talk, Ola just never really liked being quiet with other people since it was always so awkward. And she hated making any situation awkward.
But right there, on that park bench, their silence was nothing even near awkward.
It was calm, and comfortable.
That was until Ola and Freda heard a stomach grumbling. Freda's head was automatically off of the brunette's shoulder as she looked at the woman with a look that people usually gave to children who they found adorable.
"That wasn't me." Ola spoke up in her defense.
Yeah, sorry, that was me.
"Come on, let's go back." Freda chuckled, not even believing the brunette who was now close to holding a grudge with the voice in her ears.
Ola had followed Freda as the red head got up from the park bench.
Freda had turned to Ola, who hadn't expected the sudden attention on her. But the next action was far more unexpected as Ola watched Freda lean in closer to the other woman and lightly place her lips onto her right cheek.
Ola felt everything in detail. The way Freda's shoulder-length hair brushed up against her nose and she smelled mint, and the way Freda's lips were soft mostly because of the lip gloss she always had on.
As Freda had found herself moving back from the brunette, she was shocked to find the other woman blushing madly.
Oh yeah, Ola's a shy woman now.
Their silence was not comfortable anymore as Freda found Ola turning away from her before speaking. "Let's go back." Freda had simply nodded with a blush of her own now, as the two began their way back to the apartment building which wasn't that far away from where they were now.
So, both of them just went back to the apartment building with raging blushes.
Hm, reminds me of Newton's law. Every action has an equal or opposite reaction.
Ola didn't seem like such a huge Newton's fan since she slapped her right ear subtly.
