I get there a few minutes before 1 pm and ring the bell. I nervously clutch the gift hamper with me and get ready to meet his sister. From what he told me, his sister studies at the university and likes to play basketball. I don’t know anything else about her but I hope I’ll be on her good side. I hear the door open and in front of me is Christine trying to tie up her big Afro hair. “Hi, sorry for the intrusion, Tony invited me over?”I say as I hand her the gift hamper. “Oh hey, come on in, I’ll tell him you are here” She lets me in. It seems the long genes runs in the family. I’m 6.2 inches tall but if am not mistaken I might be taller than her by a few inches. She leads me to a sit and gives me a glass of water.
She sits opposite me and stares at me.
“I'm curious...how did you two become friends in the first place? I mean you are a big shot, the CEO of one of the most successful companies in Switzerland and then there’s my dummy brother who is just a big goofy guy. I don’t see it” She says while looking at me for any reaction. I knew she would be skeptical of our friendship but am determined to win her approval so I just smile.
“Your brother is the most thoughtful person I’ve ever met. He doesn’t kiss up to people. He is smart and one of the best employee, he is funny, caring and am lucky to be his friend.” I say in a whisper suddenly feeling shy.
“Ha!! Tony is all that? Are we talking about the same person?...you almost sound like you are in love with my brother” she laughs. I stay still and don’t say anything. I don’t know if she noticed it or she was just messing with me. Before I can say anything, I see Tony shirtless with just an apron on and shorts coming towards us from the terrace. I panic fearing she will say something but she does not.
“We are starving here, you done cooking?”she asks as she heads to the kitchen.
He ignores her and gives me a fist bump. “Anything my sister told you it’s a lie. Don’t let her smile fool yah, she a tricky fellow” he says. She shouts from the kitchen , “Dude, ever eaten chapati or mbuzi stew?” I say no and she scoffs. “You’ve been missing a lot. Today is your lucky day. Your life won’t be the same after today, tell him pookie…. Sweet! I like chocolate!!” There’s music playing in the apartment.
“wait...pookie?” I turn to look at Tony who gives her sister a glare. “siz! we agreed that nickname is not to be told in public...I swear if you laugh you are not getting any food!!” He shouts all red in the face. I laugh and thinks its a cute name but I say nothing. I look around. It's a two bedroom apartment, cozy and feels homey. I like it. I wonder if I’ll ever step in his bedroom and what the room likes. I look at them bickering over the nickname. It’s easy to see the resemblance. They are quite tall, fit, have gorgeous hair, same eyes and the same infectious smile and laughs. Christina has dyed the ends of her hair blue which makes her stand out in the crowd in a good way. They are both hot and I feel awestruck being in their company.
I stand and move to the kitchen. “Anything I can help you with in the kitchen?” I ask as I get closer. “NO!” they both shout horrified then break out laughing. I turn and glare at Tony who raises his hands in surrender. “you told her, didn’t you?” He laughs and my face flush. “There’s no judgment here , at least you can make a nice cup of coffee, cheer up!” He says in between laughs. I chase him outside the terrace. After a few minutes, we prepare the table and sit down to eat.
