The night has fallen upon our friends. A gray sky covers everything as a cold breeze flows through the tall palm like pillars. Our friends have set up camp In a big clearing besides a pond. A fire is crackling in a sand pit in the middle and around it you can see them.
Burt is inside his armor, he looks like a big shield propped against the sand. His arms and legs pop out slowly and his face rolls from inside to show his stubby antennas, he rubs his eyes and looks around because he was woken up by a strange sound.
Ello sleeps on top of the inflatable donut Who made, and has a big flower petal covering him as he rests and drools peacefully.
Who is hugging her legs against her chest, a couple tears roll over her face. She breathes deeply and lifts her face to the sky
“AIEEEEEE!! Burt you scared me!” She says as she was surprised to see Burt very close in front of her. “Sorry Burt, I was crying because Im afraid. You have spent I don’t know how long being lonely and traveling by yourself, and I’m afraid that I don’t know what this is?” She says as she looks around “I dont know if it’s going to all go away one day”
The breeze blows stronger and it feels salty, like if the sea was close by, they look up at the sky and they see the mist high above slowly moving. But behind them a dim glow of the giant moon starts to be seen casting an almost invisible glow on the top of the pillars.
“Man there are no stars in this sky” Says Who “Is that why you are lost Burty because you navigated with the stars?”
Burt is fixed on looking at the blurry image of the giant Moon
“Burty… you know I’m going to make you some cards with phrases because sometimes you just go all weird and I have no
Burt jumps, starts looking around at the top of the pillars and starts running around the place
“Burty! You see I was just telling you about you doung crazy things and now you tell me the Moon has gotten you al crazy huh?”
Burt is motionless now, his sight fixed further ahead, he turns around to Who with big open eyes and he runs to her
“Get away you Moon crazy fool! I know the animals mate during the Moon big deal get away!” She says as she tries to slap him but Burt is still looking further ahead.
Burt lifts Who and starts running forward
“Aieeeeeee!” Who screams “let me go Burt! Ello is by itself and is going to eat all of our berries!”
Not far away you hear the waves crashing softly on the beach. Burt stops and puts Who in the sand
“Just because you are super strong doesn’t mean you can carry me around you doofus!”
But Burt seems to not be paying attention
“What?” Who asks and turns around towards the beach. There is a dome of stone that sinks into the sea and a cave opening is covered by thick old vines.
Burt runs again towards it and squeezes through the vines like a roach.
“What is wrong with you?” Says Who “You are scaring me acting all crazy!”
Burt comes back out through the vines, he’s jumping around excited and lifts Who again and tries to go through the vines with her but Who gets stuck at the waist
“What is wrong with you! im not a bug! Im stuck! Aieeee!” She screams and Burt goes out to try and push her but shes kicking her legs around “No! Dont you touch me you fool! Imma kick you!”
She is squirming trying to get out but she can’t
Burt runs aways to the camp and comes back with Ello.
“Ehloooh?” Says the bee waking up
Burt imitates Who and throws Ello against the vines, but Ello just bounces back
So Burt starts throwing him again and again until Ello screams “Baahhh!”
“Are you crazy!” Yells Who. She starts making a great effort to plant her legs and finally pulls herself out of the vines -Swoompf! - her hair is all messed up and full of twigs. She marches stomping on the sand and takes Ello from Burt’s hands.
“Just because you don’t feel anything doesn’t mean you can treat others like a volleyball!” She says and kicks him in the shin, but it just hurts her own foot.
“Baahh!” Yells Ello at Burt wile giving him a grumpy look
Burt walks slowly and keeps staring at the entrance, Who comes beside him
“Burt did you found something?”
Burt points at the entrance with all his hands. Who looks at Ello and thinks for a second
“Did you wanted Ello to burn the vines so we can all come through?” She says as she turns towards the cave. “Ok Ello do your thing!” She says and using a softball throw send Ello flying towards the vines
“Elloooohhhh!” Screams the bee and just land on top of the vines
“No not that one the other one sweeite” says Who
“Ahh, Haaaaaaatthh!” Yells Ello as it glows for a second in a ball of fire, but nothing happens to the vines
“Its ok, its ok” Says Who as she goes and grabs Ello. She notices just a small couple bushy vines glowing like charcoal
“Well it was worth trying” She says as she blows at it
A huge flame roared consuming the door and sending our friends backwards.
“My eyebrows! Do I still have my eyebrows! Aieeee!” Yelled Who
Burt sees the tunnel entrance open and rushes to grab Who
“Vaaay” Says Ello as it sees them disappear into the cave.
A short tunnel takes them to what it seems like someone dug out a big chamber, several nesting places on the ground make it look like a bug bedroom. A dim moonlight pierces through the entrance illuminating the cave.
Burt drops Who in the middle and starts jumping around excited looking at the walls.
“What this place Burt?” Asks Who, trying to understand
Burt then gets a jelly ball from his chest and lifts it towards the walls
“Burt is this a nest?”
Burt turns around and looks at Who, she is very angry and upset. He thinks fast looking around
and in a moment of eureka throws the ball at the wall, making a splosh!
“A bit angry aren’t we” Says Who as she turns and starts leaving
Burt quickly jumps onto the jelly splat in the wall and starts running around the walls jumping then in front of Who
“Wash your hands mister!” She says
Burt points to her waist and to the room
“I knew it” Says Who, and storms out of the cave.
Burt is making an effort to think how to say and show what he wants. He then runs out again to see Who is already gone to the camp and Ello is just sitting there
“Ehlooooh” Says Ello
Burt grabs it and runs inside the cave, and holding Ello up he shows it around.
“Woaaaaaaah” Says Ello with wide open eyes as if it was looking at something on the walls
Burt celebrates in success and then runs to the camp to see if Ello can tell Who.
Who is waiting at the camp, the big hammer in her hands.
Burt sees the situation and puts Ello in the ground, slowly. Then starts walking towards Who. He crouches as low as he can while walking towards her and stretches a hand towards her waist.
“Balthazar, riddle me this” Says Who “What is going to touch me and make a whack sound?”
Burt closes his eyes and keeps reaching towards her waist
Who lifts the hammer way high “I warned you… huh?”
Burt just grabbed the map Who had tucked in her waist.
“Oh, the map?” Says Who while she drops the hammer to grab the map from Burt’s hands, Burt faints in relief.
“Is this on the map? I don’t get it” She says as she notices a very dim purple glow sparkling from the map. She turns around and sees the moon is shining stronger through the mist.
“Wait, is this what you are seeing? You are seeing a map in the cave? Lets go!”
They start running towards the cave, and now Who can see purple sparkling glow around the frame of the door.
“I won’t be able to see anything in there” Says Who as she thinks at the entrance. Suddendly her face fills with grief as she just realized something. She turns to Burt as he waits beside her.
“There is no map Burt right?” She says as she extends her hand towards him “give me one please”
Burt doubts for a second and hands over a jelly ball.
Who looks at it and her eyes tear up as she sees the jelly glows with that dim purple spark.
“I get it now, you found tracks from your friends Burt” She says “Every time you offered me a jelly ball was when we almost got separated”
She looks down at her feet and sees the glow and a couple light sparkles where they had been walking.
“You did it because you didn’t wanted to loose me Burt” She says with tears of joy “You saved my life and left your task of finding your friends to care for me. You lovely thing thank you for caring” She says as she jumps to hug him and starts to cry. Burt slowly puts a hand around Who. He then looks at the sky and stars start to appear.
Who looks at him and then up to the sky “Seems like things are getting better every day” she says.
