third day of camp. kai has been missing for five hours. not that anyone knew. they all assumed that he was just flying laps around the island even though never actually seeing him. throughout his kidnapping he was actually talking to charles who he woke up from internal screaming and entertained himself through that. he wasn't feeling scared at all, just a little bit annoyed. 

back at the main camping area where the rest of his peers were, his lack of attendance was very suspicious and started to bring up concern, but was pushed away by the teachers and the instructors. 

when the test of courage came up, kai was supposed to be paired up with midoriya but ended up not having anyone to pair with. he suggested that they search for kai first before starting but the idea was pushed away once again. "he'll come back down on his own soon enough" they said. but of course he was actually kidnapped on the other side of the island. 

during all of that, he was tied up against a tree and badly blindfolded. he could hear the villains talking about him. how to kill him or get rid of him. while they were talking he took out a swiss army knife he had in his back pocket and started to cut the very thin rope. when it broke, it made a little sound which alerted that villains that he had escaped. "hey! he's out!! get him, idiots!" he heard a villain shout. but he had already fled before then. when he was escaping, he was actually trying his best to get away instead of leisurely flying because the villains were pretty much right behind him. his wings nearly being burned. 

about five minutes later, he arrived at the camp site where the rest of the students were and ended up colliding with midoriya onto the ground. he had heard midoriya call out his name, but was unable to respond from being too exhausted. that's when suspicions were finally considered and the "test" was called off. but before it was put into motion, pixie bob was hit over the head very aggressively with a large pillar. 

during kai's time passed out, a memory that he had forgotten replayed in his mind. ethan. who was ethan? he had no idea. they were sitting by the beach together and picking seashells from the the shore with their pant legs rolled up to their knees. they continued to play for a long time, or so it seemed, and the day quickly changed to night. suddenly his younger self disappeared and all that remained was ethan. he turned to kai and grew slowly to (a bit shorter than) his height. five seconds later he had woken up before anything could happen. 

upon seeing the scene in reality, he wanted to die. there was smoke that came from the center of the forest almost everywhere. after trying to get up and failing, he pretended to stay asleep. not wanting to participate in the battle. but of course he was forced to participate when his head was stomped into the ground. he glared up to face the villain. "could you get your fucking foot off of my head?" he said calmly. despite what he was feeling. his arms were awkwardly stuck behind him. "mm no, i don't think so. as one of stain's tenets were to-" spinner stated, but was cut off by kai. "shut up! i don't even want to be here!! could you now get the fuck off of me?!!" he yelled angrily, suddenly considering fighting back now. "no, i don't think that i-" he said, but was hit in the back with a dark indigo feather and abruptly moved back, giving him space to run away.

the moment he had escaped, he flew away as fast as he could as if his life depended on it, because it did. he stopped at the very top of the mountain and sat down. exhausted. his mind was completely empty, not able to think in the moment. the only thought he was to have was exhaustion. he gasped for breath and sighed heavily after a few moments. he hung his head down and closed his eyes. considering falling asleep. 

the moment he was going to fall into his slumber, he heard a scream from below and took a glance down. i just came here for the view and what do i find? a face that isn't on the list" the masked man said nice and loudly for kai to hear. kota shifts backwards fearfully and considers just running away. "by the way, that hat's pretty slick. "why don't you trade me for this lame mask?" he asks, pointing at his mask with his thumb. "i'm a newbie to this operation so they made me wear this dumb mask" he moves his hand to remove his mask and kota takes it as an opportunity to run away. 

the man calls out to him and then jumps in front of him smiling widely. "i'm going to have fun with you" he said as he unveiled his left arm to swing a punch. before he could, kai swarmed the area with his dark feathers and clouded their vision. kai brought kota up onto the top with him and held his hand over his mouth to muffle as much sound as possible. their eyes connected and kai motioned with his finger to keep quiet and glanced downward one last time before sending a feather down to distract him. making it bump into all sorts of things to create sound. it worked for a long time as he ended up being able to escape safely with kota. 

he hovered in the air with kota in his arms and made sure to hold on very well. after a few minutes of flying away, he spotted what he deemed was the safe spot. he lowered down quickly and met with his schoolmates and teachers. mina rushed towards him and took kota from kai's hands. "stay with him and keep him safe. i'll be back soon" he said quickly before leaving just as quickly.
