The next day, with everything ready for the first ceremony of the day, I went to graduation where I would be awarded a medal. Although I was about to receive a medal of honor, I was discouraged with my career.
Even with all that, they would not assign me to important missions and that was frustrating in a pilot’s career. Training and improving, knowing I wasn't going to get this far, was disappointing.
The ceremony started. Micah was beside me, beautifully dressed. The moment came when I was going to receive the medal. Micah who put it on me. For a moment I thought of my father, and that he might be here, but he would probably criticize me for not being more efficient and losing a leg because of it.
There were also other recipients, who received medals for their great achievements. I thought that Micah should also win a medal for her achievement, but researchers did not win medals, but prizes for their research and achievements.
It was a ceremony that took place twice a year and I wanted her to win the next one, since no one achieved an unprecedented feat like hers, having made an incredible discovery in the area of quantum communication.
"She deserved more than medals and awards," I said in thought, looking at her.
The ceremony ended and many came to greet me.
"I'm sorry for what happened, but don't give up on your career. Your skills are unquestionable," said (Major Captain) Yennir, accompanied by Guinna.
"Thank you, (Major Captain) Yennir."
"I hope you don't give up on our rivalry! I still want to beat you on many missions," said Guinna smiling.
"Do not give up!" said Golgreen.
"(Major Captain) Golgreen. I'm glad you're here! I was worried about you, about what had happened. Sorry for not meeting you before."
"It's all right! The news about your father shook you. In the end, it all worked out! I managed to get rid of the punishments for putting you in danger. Excuse me, and again, thanks for your achievement. If it weren't for you, my son, Lairilon, Guinna, and Yennir wouldn't be alive," said (Major Captain) Golgreen.
"No need to thank. I did what needed to be done," I said, trying not to look like a hero.
"Drinihian! Micahilla!"
"(Captain Lieutenant Colonel) Hennmi! Good to see you!" said Micahilla.
"My friend!" said (Major Captain) Golgreen, greeting (Captain Lieutenant Colonel) Hennmi.
"See you!" said (Major Captain) Yennir saying goodbye.
Guinna approached me and kissed me on the cheek. Everyone looked at her in surprise. Micah was the one who most made an expression of surprise and anger.
"Take care! I saw that you will be well accompanied in your recovery. I also have someone to look after," said Guinna, saying goodbye.
It took me a while to understand, but I soon realized that she and Lairilon were getting together. Now I understood that she was hitting on me, not because she was interested in me, but because she wanted to make Lairilon jealous.
After a short conversation, everyone left, and Micahilla...
"Wait, I'll be right back!" she said, going after (Captain Lieutenant Colonel) Hennmi.
In an hour I would start my father's second mourning ceremony of the day. It was an awkward situation and I didn't want to go through that.
I was looking at Micah. She had finished talking to (Captain Lieutenant Colonel) Hennmi and when she was coming towards me she changed her path and went to meet that official military officer (First Lieutenant) Dornnih.
I wanted to go there, but I stopped myself and watched from a distance. They talked for a while and in the end, he kissed her on the cheek. I was angry and jealous. She came back to me...
"What happened? Why do you have that expression?" asked Micahilla.
"I still need to say why?" I said angrily.
She looked back.
"I understand! You do not need to be jealous. He's a great friend and helped me a lot. He likes me more than a friend, but he knows that my heart belongs to you. He wished us all the best and said that whatever we need, he will be on hand to help us."
I was speechless for what she had just said to me.
"It's all right! Excuse!" I said, trying to smile.
She smiled at me and kissed me on the cheek.
We wait for the second ceremony. We entered graduation again and the awkward moment began. I wanted to leave without explaining anything to anyone, but I stopped myself. When they started talking about my father, several memories of him came to mind.
Many memories of collections that I did not want to remember, but for a moment I had a happy memory of him with my mother. A happy time that I remembered a little.
My father had died as a hero. On the mission he was on, he sacrificed himself to save a spaceship with 13 crew members who, due to a maneuvering error, was being attracted to the giant gaseous planet that was going to crush them. My father made a risky maneuver using his drones and managed to remove them from the attraction of the planet, but he had to use his drone to help in this feat and was unable to free himself from the gas giant that attracted him, crushing him.
His medal was given to me. The ceremony ended. I didn't feel like talking to anyone and to my surprise, no one came to offer my condolences.
As I was leaving with Micah, Sirfiphith approached.
"I'm sorry to disturb your departure, but I need to give you something."
"All right Sir. What happened? I didn't see you at any of the ceremonies,"
"Yes! I wasn't there! Your father was a great friend of mine and I think that these should stay with you. These are recordings of missions that he participated in," said (Major Captain) Sirfiphith, handing me a mobile data device.
"Thank you, sir! Why did you never tell me you were friends with him?"
"He asked me not to say anything. He didn't want you to know so as not to think that anything he did would be benefiting you, just because he and I were great friends."
"I understand! Thank you," I said, discouraged.
"Don't give up on your career. He wouldn't want you to give up. He always believed in you."
I was surprised by (Major Captain) Sirfiphith's words. It was hard to believe that he thought so. He only knew how to criticize me.
"Thank you, sir."
"Whatever you need, you can count on me," said (Major Captain) Sirfiphith, saying goodbye.
Micah gave me a curious look. I was tired from the day of ceremonies. Micah requested a transport drone, which would take us to an area of temporary rental homes, which was very close to the World Space Agency.
All I wanted most was to be at peace in her arms.
