Tell Me Your Story

The First Visitor part 2

The First Visitor part 2

Jul 06, 2023

'I'm a mystic beast human referred to as Thunder wolf. As the name suggests, we're able to use and control lightning for hunting and fighting. We like to live alone after we mature. I believe we're a rare species because humans are always surprised when they see me and then look at me with greed. Fortunately, I live deeper in the forest so I rarely meet them.'

The wolf was more talkative than I had expected. Was this because of Room's influence or her solitary life? Anyway I was sure now, this was definitely not Earth, there were things that can use and control lightning too on Earth but all of them would not be allowed to live outside the facility.

'I've lived in the Great Forest since I was born. While we aren't the top of the food chain there, we're still very strong. Strong enough to roam the forest freely, but I've never gone outside because the forest is surrounded by mountains which are too troublesome to climb while the easier paths are blocked by human settlements.'

As many people said before, hearing wasn't the same as seeing, I knew the rough image of the Great forest now but couldn't imagine the scale of it. One of the Room functions should solve this problem. Let's try.

*woof*

'What's happening!'

The wolf jumped in surprise by the sudden change of scenery. The previous completely black room was turned into the top-down view of the forest. Now, it was my turn to be surprised.

"Holy shit! That's huge!"

I wasn't kidding, this forest is breathtaking. Like she said the forest borders were connected to either mountains or well maintained dirt roads which headed to human settlements. Still, a large part of the forest was covered in black fog, especially the middle area. This was Room’s ability, it took the visual memories of our visitor and compiled them into perfect replicas of that place, the only limit of this ability was the memory of the visitor. Anywhere that the visitor had never visited will be covered in black fog like what we were seeing right now. Looked like those areas were too dangerous for her to go in.

“Don’t worry. It's just hard for me to imagine what you’re talking about, so I asked Room to help me out a bit. I have to say though, your birthplace sure is impressive. I assume this forest is not safe for humans to inhabit, right? What's the usual breast you’ll meet in this area?”

My curiosity was really hard to put down now since all of the flora I saw so far wasn’t anything I was familiar with at all. This meant there were a lot of things to learn! Sadly, I couldn’t leave this space and couldn’t rely on one’s memory alone to learn these things. I hoped I would meet many kinds of scholars later.

‘I’ve never heard about gods or deities who can manipulate the mind before, but I shouldn’t be too surprised since magic used by them couldn’t be understood with common sense. About humans thing…’

She paused to think a bit before continuing with the dark expression on her face.

‘For normal ones, there’s no way they can survive here. Even the most harmless breast here called Rockmuck can still pose a threat to them. But the ones that excel in either weapons or magic could transverse through this area safely and kill anything they want. The only reason they didn’t live here is there’s no reason to, I think? Since there are four roads made around the perimeter of the forest to connect cities together.’

As she talked, the scene of chipmunks throwing rocks twice their size at humans played before my eyes. Then it changed to humans wearing robes or armor walking and killing breasts with their weapons or magics nonchalantly while guarding humans who looked like a merchant.

“There’s no point trying to understand humans. We might be blessed with intelligence, but that also gives us useless things like pride and greed. The reason they didn’t deforest your home already might simply be because someone gained something from having this area between those cities or some sort of being deeper in the forest preventing them. Oh, sorry for my rumbling. Go on, what did your daily life look like?”

The wolf stared blankly at me with a look of surprise on her face. Did I say something wrong? Let’s wait for her to recover then. Room! One glass cola please!

'You knew about the guardians! How? I've never met one myself, even the rumors about them living deeper in the Great Forest isn't well known. I know about them from a human who managed to escape from one after venturing too deep in the forest.'

Hmm, interesting. Looking back at the forest below us, I found something quite ridiculous. Because the wolf only roamed around the outer area of the forest,  she did make a full circle and explore a bit outside too. This gave me the estimation of the size of this forest. Was this Amazon? And how big is this continent, if there are cities surrounding this place?

"It's just a pure guess and as a human, I know how humans think. So that guy's survival might relate to why no humans move their border into the forest yet. How long ago was this?"

'Two maybe three Winters ago. I don't think he could do anything about that though.'

"Why? Did he look unreliable?"

Tilting my head. Now I was even more curious on how she came to that conclusion.

'I killed him.'

"Ah, how did he taste… Room! No! You don't have to show that scene!"

Room needed to learn to tell when I was joking and when I was serious.

'I didn't eat him, sir. I just killed him because he tried to attack me. I actually don't like to use violence and only hunt for my survival. The others of my kind are battle junkies. They hunt to improve their strength and live in deeper areas.'

"I see. That should be enough of a story to give you some reward. Would you like to continue or stop here?"

'Already?!'

When he came to his sense, he already made a contract with that being.

His job was to write the story about anything he met.

What sort of people would he meet? What kind of story would they bring to him?

"So, tell me your story" - He said as his next target walked into the room.

At least, he was nothing but the watcher. No danger would come, right?
