As Shine's body impacted the ground, she lay still for multiple minutes. Unsure of if she was alive or deceased, she chose to open her eyes and analyze where she had fallen. Snow covered most of her body, partially blending in her fur to the ground with a few drops of blood ruining the illusion. Light shone from the small opening above, well hidden by the very boulder she had tripped on. The cave walls were riddled with shades of gray covered up by white and stagmites the size of her handlers loomed above her. Soothed by the concealed safety of the cave and its Heaven-like blanket, she steadied her breathing, acknowledging that her life had yet to end.
It's calm here...
I like it here.
Wait...
What time of day is it?
She looked up at the opening, assuming it was sunrise because of how the light was angled.
Was I running for that long?
I'm such a failure...
Exhausted, she closed her eyes once again, right as a vicious snowstorm began to stir up. Snowflakes fell upon her pelt and covered her body little by little, sometimes soothing the bare parts of her skin. She assumed the snow would have a greater impact on her body, freezing her until she could no longer endure it.
