Alistar was taken back to Foundation headquarters to be examined by a doctor for his injuries and taken straight home after being given the go ahead by the doctor. His body was covered in bandages, some wrapped completely around his chest and arms. He could barely take two steps into the living room before collapsing again onto the couch.
The next morning saw him preparing breakfast in the kitchen while observing the lovely day outside. The weather report said the weather would be partly cloudy with no expected showers. The chirping of nesting birds sung just beyond the window, the cool winds gently blew inside and carried the scent of his eggs and bacon further throughout the house. His exploits yesterday were all over the news with video footage taken by those inside the hospital being displayed on multiple stations.
He found himself trying to decide on a day for his parents’ funeral while eating, being around this table was bittersweet sorrow. They needed to be properly laid to rest, not to mention the fact that he didn’t know for how much longer the Foundation would be able to house their bodies. It was something he wanted to get done before Alexander woke up so that he wouldn’t be burdened with the decision making. He decided to have their funeral at the end of the following month on their anniversary. That way he could pay tribute to both their most joyous and most sorrowful days. Though he still couldn’t believe they were really gone.
He was given explicit instructions not to go out today if it wasn’t an emergency or urgent since he was explicitly told to recover. As a result, he brought a book down from his parents’ room and sat on the couch to read it. He picked one titled “The Vampiric Blood’s Origins”, the summary said it was a compilation of testimonies denoting a brief insight of vampire history from members who were willing to share. Of course, the identity of those vampires that dared tell their story were hidden for obvious reasons.
It stated that vampires started from two figures that they referred to as their Adam and Eve, a husband and wife that gave birth to the first generation of pure vampires. They and their children converted those who willingly went to undergo the change and from there the second generation of pure vampires were born. It does not say what happened to the children of Adam and Eve, only that they disappeared from the records after the death of their parents.
In addition, as the progenitors of all vampires, those of that first generation, that singular family, had complete control of all vampires that came after them. Regardless of if those vampires were pure blood or converted. Alistar knew vampires could control those they turned, so it was fascinating to read that these first vampires had a more advanced form of that control.
All that power vested into a single family, he questioned if those children just vanished or if it was a cover up for a more devious action. He could picture it playing out like an old medieval story of the royal family being overthrown, like what happened in Francquia. When he checked his phone for the first time, he noticed that three hours had gone by, in addition, he had five missed calls from Martha. She was probably calling to check up on him and to ensure he was following the doctor’s orders.
He called her back and immediately received an earful the moment she picked up. It reminded him of how his mother would scold him for waking up late for school. When her scolding was finished, she told him to get his butt there immediately and then ended the call, he found it strange since it hadn’t even been a day since he was ordered to remain at home. He wondered if it was another incident like before. He went upstairs to change into his uniform and then asked some of the troopers outside to give him a ride to headquarters.
He was in no shape to fight so most likely he wasn’t being called in for combat training or deployment, so maybe they wanted more information from him that they forgot during debriefing. One of the three troopers that were in the transport nudged him on his shoulder and told him that they were just ordered to escort him to where he needed to go. This new information placed him slightly on edge as he now wondered why he needed to be escorted through headquarters.
When they had arrived at Foundation headquarters the troopers left their firearms inside of the transport. Since they were at one of the safest places in the city it made sense that they did not need to be armed. One of the troopers went in front of him and the other two flanked his sides. His procession got a few glimpses from those around. Only when they made it to the medical unit was his eyes opened to what was happening, eyes that saw a nod given by the trooper before him when seeking assurance.
