“No. No. No. No. No! I can’t possibly be reincarnated!” I cried out in a panic.
“How is this even possible? A fantasy world isekai? I thought these only existed in books?! And why the heck did they keep me in my pajamas!” I screamed to the forest around me, looking down at my duck PJs.
I paused for a moment and took in a deep breath to calm my nerves, glancing at the surrounding forest once more. I pinched myself, just to be sure, and winced in pain.
“Ok, so I know it’s not a dream at least, but how does this even happen?” I spoke now more calmly to myself.
“Forget the isekai thing for a second. In order to be reincarnated I have to have died right? Not only that, but wouldn’t I be a baby not still a teen? But…”
I thought back to my last memories at home. I had fallen asleep after giving up on that old story. At home in my bed. So how did I die?
“Did… Did I die in my sleep somehow?” My expression grew sullen as I thought back to my family.
“If that’s the case, and I am dead… I’m so sorry guys,” I choked, tears falling from my eyes.
I was suddenly blinded as something shiny suddenly reflected into my eyes. I covered my eyes, before turning to see what it was that blinded me. I gasped at the sight. On the ground next to me was a large leather brown book with golden engravings. The engravings were of beautiful swirled and twisted designs, however engraved in the center of the book was a golden lily.
I picked up the book as I examined it, noticing it wasn’t as heavy as I thought it would be. It wasn’t a light book, decently thick, yet not quite heavy in its weight. It was quite balanced actually, which I greatly admired. The leathering on the book was clean and fresh, as if it had just been made a second ago. It was a beautiful book, it looked almost magical. I opened the book to view its contents to be met with nothing.
“All the pages are blank? What is this?” I questioned.
I stopped flipping the pages and stared at a blank page in the middle. I suddenly gasped as words started to appear out of nowhere on the page, ink rising to the surface.
Choose a utensil.
~Quill
~Pencil
~Pen
~TTS
“Choose?” I questioned, staring at the page as if it waited for my response.
“Um, Quill I guess?” I muttered, tapping the quill option with my finger.
The letters on the page suddenly glowed, before a quill appeared in front of me as the page returned to being blank.
“Whoa,” I gasped staring at the quill hovering in front of me.
I guess it is a magic book.
I grabbed the quill and looked back down at the book.
“What do I do now?”
I looked down at the book once more before thinking, maybe I can ask the book?
I quickly wrote down, What do I do now? into the book and carefully waited. The words I wrote onto the page were suddenly crossed out, and glowed red before disappearing. I looked down at the book surprised.
“Was that somehow wrong?” I muttered, thinking on it.
“If this is a magic book, maybe there are rules to it? But what kind of rules would a book have? Oh! Maybe-” I quickly started writing into the book with my newfound idea.
What do I do now? She asked the book.
I gasped. The words on the page glowed gold this time, disappearing before a response was written back.
Write.
I stared at the page dumbfounded at its single worded response.
“No duh!?” I screamed, shaking the book around.
“Stupid book,” I muttered, rewriting my question now for a broader response.
The book glowed gold again this time now responding with a proper response.
This book will provide you with anything you ask of it, so long as you write it in a story format. This includes things like items, answers, and rules. However, there are some exceptions.
“Some exceptions?” I muttered curiously. I stared at the word answers as I pondered upon my situation, before I started writing.
Did I die in my old world? She asked.
No.
The books answer made me sigh in relief, but it only filled me with even more questions.
If I didn’t die, then I’m not reincarnated, right? If so, how did I end up here? She asked.
Correct. You were transported here.
“Transported?”
Does my family know I am gone? She questioned.
No. Your world remains unchanged until you return.
I stared at the response before I asked the burning question.
Take me home please. She asked.
At this, the whole book glowed bright as the entire page was covered in intricate designs with a bright message lying in its center.
Finish the story, only then will this book safely return you home.
“Finish the story? What story? I don’t… understand,” I muttered, the quill disappearing as the book faded to blank again.
The only story I can think of is the one I was writing before I came here, but… if this is such a magical book, why didn’t it just lock me in my room to finish it? Why transport me to somewhere completely new? Something here isn’t right.
The wind blew softly as I glanced up at the sky.
“Hm? My hair color is different. Blonde and pink? That’s interesting.” I muttered absentmindedly.
“Well!” I stood up, brushing myself off. “I’m not going to make any progress sitting around here. Let’s see if I can find somewhere nice to sit down and write.”
Picking up the book, I proceeded to explore the surrounding forest. The forest was calm and peaceful, light peeking from the tree branches as the woodland critters roamed. Some of the creatures were recognizable; foxes, rabbits, owls, and blue jays. While some were new looking; cats with antlers, rabbits with wings, and green moss like jaguars with an interesting glow.
Maybe I should stay away from the larger creatures, I thought quickly tiptoeing away from the large cat that hadn’t noticed me yet.
After wandering the forest for a bit, I came across a rather old looking tree. It was massive in size, just slightly towering over the other treetops. It was nice and peaceful around the tree as there were hardly any critters around it.
“This looks like a good spot,” I muttered to myself happily, as I sat down and leaned against the tree.
Once I was comfortable, I popped open the book and got to work.
“First things first, I wonder if this book will allow me to make some notes,” after a quick test, I found out that it was indeed possible.
“Yes!”
I didn’t have any ideas where to start story wise, so I took some time to refresh myself on what I already had by taking some notes. However, I did not realize how much time had passed until my stomach growled. I held my stomach before I looked around.
“I didn’t even think about food. Nothing around here looks edible either, hmm. I wish I had a cookie.”
I looked down at the book in my lap.
“Oh! I know! I wonder if this works!”
I quickly wrote; Appearing before her was a large chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven as it floated in front of her.
The words on the page glowed bright gold, before the lights rose off of the page and flashed. Lo and behold, a large chocolate chip cookie floated in front of me.
“Sweet!” I exclaimed, grabbing the cookie.
“Ouch, hot!” I exclaimed, dropping it onto the book in my lap.
“Oh no! The book!” I panicked before I gasped in surprise. Looking down at the book, after I had lifted up the cookie, not a single crumb or smear of the chocolate remained upon it.
“Whoa,” I said, staring at it in awe as I ate my cookie.
Pausing while eating my cookie, I decided to ask the book a question.
Is this book impervious, or resistant to anything? She asked the book.
This book is indestructible, impervious, and resistant to all elements and magic. Nothing can mark this book except you.
“That’s good to know,” I muttered, finishing my cookie.
I should probably have more than just a cookie, I thought to myself writing and summoning some dinner.
“Wait.” I froze, holding the fresh meal in my hands as I remembered something important.
“Where is all this food coming from? I’m not stealing it from somewhere, right?”
I quickly asked the book this question only to get a simple response.
Yes.
My stomach dropped with guilt.
“You stupid book! Stealing is bad! Return it now!” I quickly wrote in the book to return the meal to where it came from, as my meal disappeared from my sight. Then, remembering it said I can write some rules into the book, I wrote in that the book is not allowed to take things from people who need them, and if it must take something then to take it from somewhere where it won’t be missed. Once the law was written into the book, I used it to summon some bread and settled on that for dinner.
Nibbling on it, I asked the book for its other rules so I can make note of them for the future.
This books rules are as follows;
1) Only Liliya Scriven can write into this book.
2) This book will provide anything asked of it by Liliya, if written in story format.
3) This book is indestructible to all elements and magic.
4) This book cannot leave Liliya’s side.
5) Liliya cannot use this book on herself whether it be for healing or learning magic.
6) Liliya can use the book to summon, boost, and enhance things around her.
7) This book protects Liliya from being mind controlled.
8) Liliya is prevented from mentioning she is the author by any means.
9) This book can only take things from those who have no need of it.
“Ok, that’s interesting. I mean, I knew most of these already, but four through eight is new,” I thought out loud finishing my bread.
This book cannot leave Liliya’s side.
Does this mean it will teleport to me or something if I stray too far from it? “Well! Only one way to find out!” I beamed standing up, leaving the book on the ground.
Placing my feet carefully, I counted as I walked backwards. I kept walking back as I stared at my feet until a large sounding low growl came from behind me. I froze on the spot, fear trickling down my spine before I slowly turned around.
Behind me was a white lion with giant white wings, its figure towering alongside the treetops as this griffin’s blue eyes glared down at me. The white griffin growled at me with very large, sharp pearly white teeth, making my instincts run one word through my mind.
Run.
I bolted, forgetting everything else as I ran for it as fast as my legs would carry me. The griffin’s ear-piercing roar only making me run faster. The thundering of the griffin’s paws chasing after me rang through my ears as I leapt and swerved around the forest obstacles as I ran. I did not dare to look back, afraid of how close it might be as one of the rules in the book suddenly became clear.
Liliya cannot use this book on herself whether it be for healing or learning magic.
There’s a reason that rule was inscribed. It’s because there are things in this world that I will be needing to fight against! Light shown in the distance as the edge of the forest came into view. Suddenly I tripped, and the griffin behind me used this chance.
With a large swipe of its paw, it batted me away as I was sent flying out of the forest. My body rippled with pain from the hit, that pain feeling like a shockwave throughout my body when I hit the ground. I felt paralyzed with a pain I had never experienced before.
The crashing sound of the griffin landing behind me awoke me from my reverie as I struggled to get up. I coughed, revealing blood as I turned around to see the griffin had changed. Black fur, no longer white, its wings gone only for its mane to be replaced with flames as the beast stalked towards me slowly with glowing orange eyes.
“It transformed?!”
A glow of gold light caught my eye as the book appeared before me. I quickly opened the book and slammed TTS with what little strength I had, before I spoke.
“Please, I beg. Suddenly appeared before me somebody that can save me!”
The book glowed brightly as the beast behind me sucked in a breath of fire. I closed my eyes, awaiting my fate before…
“Dusk Claws; Shadow Strike!”
I opened my eyes in surprise.
The beast behind me was getting pushed back by a cat girl with black hair. Her claws were enveloped in shadows of black and red as she slashed back the beast with a wicked grin. The beast roared at her, releasing a small set of flames towards her. She easily dodged them all given her cat like reflexes, but while she was dodging its attacks, the beast took the opportunity to slip one attack in my direction. What was surprising however, was the fact that she wasn’t at all worried.
Right before the flame hit me, it was cut away by a white fox girl, as she jumped in front of me.
“Hey big guy! Over here!” the cat girl yelled, directing its attention back to her as she attacked it again.
The beast easily batted her away as she slid in front of me, next to the fox girl has she looked back up at the beast with a wicked grin.
“It looks like it’s underestimating us Fauve,” the fox girl spoke with a small smile.
“Well then Evolet, let’s show it our real strength!” The cat girl yelled menacingly.
Fauve. Evolet. These two. Everything here… I thought thinking back to all that’s happened in this world so far, everything I’ve learned from the book, and everything I’ve seen.
This world… isn’t just some fantasy world, I thought, staring at the two in front of me as the pieces came together.
This world… All of it… This is my world… My story.
