In America, the majority of the population does not
value education, but the educational system is among
the best in the world. In India, the majority of the
population values education, but the educational
system is very weak for the majority of Indians. There
are lakhs of young children and adults who are
illiterate. I think illiteracy is one of the worst kinds of
meanness society has. It’s a scar for life. Illiteracy
keeps the sufferer in ignorance, unable to know what
their rights are.
“In India, the best crammers for tests are rewarded. In
the West ones who learn skills, and, more importantly,
learn how to apply them are rewarded. Creativity,
original thinking, research, and innovation are all
cultivated and encouraged from a young age.”
From 2008, I worked and wrote this book and it is
unique because it offers an Indian and an American
perspective. The reason why it includes an American
perspective is because lots of Indians asked me about
how life was in America.
