After all the players got the side quests, the old man said "Thank you for accepting my request. My chickens were last seen in the rice fields behind my house" he said with a big smile showing his black and hollow teeth.
The players felt strange about the timing of Empu Sutono's words, but they didn't pay attention to it and immediately walked towards the rice fields behind the house. Leona, who couldn't wait to finish her first quest in the game, was at the forefront and stepped up excitedly.
The players shook their heads with smiles on their faces and hearts full of joy. They never thought that Leona's true nature was this cute. When on-screen, a V-tuber can act and become someone who is different from their real personality. However, in a game that felt like they were in the real world, Leona couldn't possibly hide her true nature, which was childish and eager for adventure.
They arrived at a field filled with rice paddies as high as an adult's waist. The rice paddies grew so well that they were not far from each other, and the fields looked like they were covered by a yellow blanket. As soon as their feet stepped on the fields, a virtual interface appeared,
[You are entering a Paddy Field.
Killing a Rat: 1 Weapon Affinity Exp.
Killing a Frog: 1 Weapon Affinity Exp.
Killing a Leech: 2 Weapon Affinity Exp.
Killing a Snake: 2 Weapon Affinity Exp.
*Reminder: The experience you get will be removed if you don't carry a weapon.
*Reminder: Weapon Affinity Exp gained while in the field will be removed if you are killed.
*Reminder: Weapon Affinity Exp will return if you manage to find your soul scale.
*Reminder: Only players who have the same ID can claim Weapon Affinity Exp from their soul scale.]
"Weapon Affinity Exp? What is that?" Some players were confused by the term they just heard.
After looking at their stats once more, they found that their Weapon Affinity stats were still empty.
Billy commented, "Maybe this is the same as the Monster Hunter game, where the player's abilities are closely related to the weapons they carry."
"I think you're right, so we should focus our character on just one weapon, instead of having multiple weapons with low levels. Does anyone know how many tiers of levels there are for Weapon Affinity?" Guta added.
"Percha Island Online is a new game that suddenly appeared. As beta testers, maybe we are one of the first people who know about this game. I've searched on the internet but there is no news at all about this game. I don't understand why Doodle didn't promote this before." said Rou while holding his chin.
"Maybe the actual concept of this game isn't ready yet, so they just want to test the mechanics. So after the update and the official version comes out we'll be able to play the real Percha Island Online." Guta thought out loud.
"Besides, where are we going to get the weapons? Is The Instructor going to give it to us?" asked one of the players.
"I also agree with you. That's why we were asked to focus on finding The Instructor and completing the main quest. After we finish the tutorial quest then maybe we can get weapons and can gain Weapon Affinity Exp from the Field" Billy once again gave a very reasonable opinion.
"So do you think we should go back and finish the main quest first, after getting the weapons then we can finish this side quest so we don't lose Weapon Affinity Exp?" asked Rou.
"I think this is more profitable for us," Billy nodded.
The other players also agreed that if Weapon Exp was the same as increasing fighting power then they didn't want to lose it at all. After all, the time limit for completing the side quest was still very long considering the sun was still shining brightly above their heads.
"Eeeehhhh!!" Leona, who had just been listening, became disappointed. {What the hell you pussies?! Why don't we finish this side quest first? It's just snakes, rats, frogs, and leeches here. We can slap them away and catch that chicken, easily. Why do we need a weapon? You pigs are so cowardly, let me help you cut your dick!}
She really wanted to run into the middle of the yellowing rice field and experience the freedom of her body which was no longer just a 2D image.
Seeing the gloomy Leona with pouting lips, several players almost lost their will to go back and look for The Instructor. But Guta strengthened his heart and persuaded Leona "Leona calm down, we will come back here again after getting weapons. We will play with you until the beta test time limit ends." said Guta softly.
"You guys won't leave me?" Leona said with big-teary eyes.
Suddenly all the players who were there shouted with all their might "OF COURSE! WE WON'T LEAVE YOU!!"
Leona's face brightened again and her smile widened, it was dazzling like the sun rising from the eastern horizon. "Okay! Then let's go back to the main quest"
But before any of them could respond because they were still captivated by Leona's smile, the sound of gamelan from nowhere filled their ears. It sounded low but the faint sound made the hairs on the players' necks stand on end. Then there were the high, melodious voices of women singing a song that made their bodies tremble with fear.
^ Lingsir wengi sliramu tumeking sirno (Towards night, your shadow begins to fade),
^Ojo tangi nggonmu guling (Don't wake up from your sleep),
The clear sky was suddenly covered with dark clouds. The air in the paddy field dropped a few degrees and made their skin feel frozen. The yellow rice paddies that were as high as the waist of adults seemed to be getting higher and higher along with their swaying as they followed the cold wind that was blowing.
^Awas jo ngetoro (Watch out! don't show yourself),
^Aku lagi bang wingo wingo (I'm restless),
The sound of giggling sounded all around them as if an invisible creature was moving around them. The players who were ordinary people should have panicked at this but their gamer instincts made them realize that this was the background music of an approaching enemy.
"get into formation! Get into formation! We will divide into a party of five! Tanks prepare yourselves!" Leona gave the signal. Instead of feeling fear, Leona was eager for their first fight.
The players who were already grounded immediately rushed into formation. Like trained soldiers, they reflexively stood in the right position and waited for the attack to come. The intention to return had disappeared from their eyes, there was only passion for battle.
For them, this was just a game, and games should be enjoyed when playing them.
^Jin setan kang tak utusi (I command the devil),
^Jin setan kang tak utusi (I command the devil),
The rustling sound of the small animals rubbing against the grass rang in the ears of the players. But their vision was blocked by the tall yellow rice paddies that covered the field. There was only their gamer instinct that told them that the enemy would soon launch its first attack.
Even with their bare hands, Leona was sure they could face the monsters in the field. With good cooperation and coordination, they would be able to easily face the rats, frogs, leeches, and snakes.
But this time she was wrong...
^Dadyo sebarang (Be anything)
^Wojo lelayu sebet (But don't bring death)
A chicken the size of a puppy suddenly jumped out of the lush paddy field. In the blink of an eye, it kicked a player's chin and sent him flying. One couldn't imagine how strong the kick was to make a grown man be thrown upwards, coupled with its pointed claws' blood spurting out from the wound on his chin.
It didn't stop there, dozens of other chickens jumped out and attacked the player in the air, no sound came from his mouth because of their very fast movements. When the player landed on the ground, he was no longer alive and turned into a lump of water that drenched the ground. In the middle of the puddle, there was a green scale that looked like a fish scale.
The other players who saw this could only gasp in disbelief at the sight before their eyes.
The horrible song in a language they didn't understand kept playing like background music from a horror movie about massacres. However, right now the killer was not a giant shark, a giant monster, or a giant human, but a gang of vicious and bloodthirsty chickens.
The flock of chickens disappeared again into the middle of the high rice fields, and the atmosphere of the field became calm again as if no player had just been killed. However, this atmosphere did not make the players calm down but the panic that was stored in their hearts arose due to the scene that occurred before their eyes.
"What the hell was that?!!!"
"Is that the chicken we have to catch?!! What the hell is that chicken!"
"What kind of sick side quest is this? Shouldn't this be a beginner village, why is the enemy so strong? I couldn't even see their form!"
"Shit they will attack again!!"
Then, as if knowing what horror they were facing, one by one the players were killed but this time they screamed before turning into puddles of water. They tried to use strategies and fight blindly, but like a trained ninja army against ordinary people, their resistance was useless.
Players finally knew how difficult it was to play Percha Island Online.
As hope seemed to be lost and the number of players who fell victim to the attacks grew, a woman's voice that used to sound soft now spoke up but she spoke like an experienced commander.
"Everyone gather near me! Huddle together so that there's no space for the chickens to get in!! We can't possibly beat them without weapons! We're going to find a way out of their encirclement and get out of this field"
Like there was a rope tying their bodies, all the players obeyed Leona's orders and huddled together. Their large number made them look like balls that were pressed against each other.
"Listen and do what I say! And I promise you that we will get out of this hell alive!" Leona shouted with authority.
