"This is our dorm huh?" I asked Julian who was beside me, taking it all in.
The dorms weren't good or bad, they had everything you would need to go by your day. The dorms were surprisingly spacious so that was a good thing gave us more freedom than usual.
"Well, it's better than what me and Rebecca had," Julian said with his hand placed on his hips with a happy smile that could make another person happy as well he looked over the dorms with gratitude. Julian walked to a pedestal next to a bed that actually somewhat looked comfy. He dug out something from his bag and it was a little framed picture of Rebecca and Julian as kids.
I walked up closer to inspect the picture.
"You know even though I don't really know that much about you Klein, I do know one thing about you." He raised his finger at me.
"And what Is that?"
"We both care about our siblings. . . I didn't see too much of your brother but I noticed the body language of his and yours. I could tell you admire him and care for him. Just like I care for my sister, you know she means the world to me. Does your brother mean the world to you?" Julian asked.
At first, I thought he was kidding about this question, but one glance was all I needed to know that he was serious about it.
"Yeah. . . I really do care for my brother. . . he really is all I have you know. Sure my mum and dad were in my life but they dedicated so much to my brother that they completely forgot about me. It wasn't their fault they did what they thought was right for our family and it made my brother the person he is so I'm grateful for that." I chuckled thinking about the past that both of us had left.
Julian couldn't help but smile about how much I cared about my brother.
"That story of yours I feel like I have to share something as well of how heartwarming it was. It's like your story you know but we never really had our mum and dad in our lives they were always busy so they couldn't deal with so did they do, they made us do fencing while they were out and about. We both got really good at fencing, however sometimes my sister would struggle from time to time, we she'd fall I'd pick her up but that's when our mum and dad were gone from our lives, never heard from her again and then we got scouted to this school and here we are now." Julian finished saying, as he went through the kitchen cupboards, inspecting the kitchen wear, continuing to speak.
"Hey, Klein do you have any dreams or aspirations you have." Julian glanced over his shoulder, asking curiously.
"If I answer your question does that mean I get to have an answer from you?" I said.
Julian laughed after hearing this.
"Of course, you will Klein."
"Well if I had to talk about dreams or aspirations I don't have any but maybe, having that chance to represent my country for the Olympics for fencing, you know that sounds amazing. What about you?" I smiled to myself.
Julian was deep in thought, picking out the right answer.
"I want to make a change. . . and when I mean by change I want to make a change so that people like us can be equals with those rich people in this school."
"You mean those rich snobs who are too full of themselves?" I chimed in, Julian shook his head.
"No not rich snobs, just rich people. They aren't snobs they were just raised that way there's nothing we could change about that idealism of there's but I'd like to try and make that change. Doesn't matter if it's small change or how small the progress it is, any progress is good in my books."
The words he had just said to me, really were inspiring words that hit home. He wanted to make a change in this faction.
"I don't want people to treat people like us, who are deemed as commoners why can't people see us for our talents instead of our hierarchy in society?" Julian asked himself lowly.
I didn't have the exact answer but I could give him some words of advice I thought he might like.
"If you have this idea, then act upon it. The only person that can stop you, isn't me, your sister or anyone else, it's you. Julian, you're the only person that can this dream of yours work and you're the only person who can fuck this up as well." I placed my hand on Julian who looked up at me with a slight smile.
"Yeah, thanks I needed that, I'll make that change and one day we'll see people treating us like equals," Julian said with a face filled with determination.
"I know you will." I happily said.
"All factions head to your theory classes and prepare your things." An automated robot voice said in our dorms.
I looked at Julian who gestured me to exit our dorm.
I exited the dorms with Julian, and it look to appear that all the juniors were heading to class. If I had to be honest when did they tell us where our class would be?
So we decided to just follow them until we arrived at the location.
(TIMESKIP)
The classes were the same as any normal school, but it was more like a university seminar that could fit 2000 students.
The students were noisy as expected as I could overhear the conversation that they were having, the classic rich people talk.
What business does your father own?
How much money does your family own?
What job are you in?
Of course, the usual death glares were given at me, but I couldn't care less it didn't scare me a bit but I wish that we could all get along just like Julian said. We were segregated as the rich would be sitting on the other side of the class, while the commoners who were only made up of 4 people, including me sat on the left.
"Don't worry about them staring at us let's just focus on the theory content of fencing. . . this is going to be pretty interesting stuff. I've always learnt how to fence, but not the why." Julian eagerly said who was sitting next to me, while the two girls were behind us.
The teacher walked in, and immediately the noises started getting less and less, and we were all surprised to see who it was.
"No way. . . don't tell me that's Rubén Limardo he's our teacher!' Emma squealed excitedly to the point I thought my eardrums were going to explode.
"Who's that?" Rebecca whispered.
"What!?. . . Are you kidding me you don't know is he!?" Emma shook Rebecca, as Rebecca nodded her head.
"He's the five-time team Pan American champion, four-time individual Pan American champion, three-time Olympian, and 2012 individual Olympic champion, simply saying one of the best," Julian noted, writing it down in his notebook on his table.
"Good morning, new juniors my name is Rubén Limardo I will be your teacher for the 3 years of your high school experience, I am honoured in telling the theory of fencing to potential individuals who make it to the Olympics. We will now begin with the theory, take notes and ask questions if must."
The lecture began at a slow pace with everyone taking notes at the things he said. I'd be real some of the stuff that he deemed was basic knowledge that everyone should know, I didn't know because I was self-taught the only thing my brother ever taught when it came to fencing was the experience in duelling.
So when I learnt these things I was amazed at how interesting the content of fencing was. The term "fencing" refers to a collection of three combat sports. The foil, épée, and sabre (sometimes known as a sabre) are the three disciplines of modern fencing; points are scored when a weapon makes contact with an opponent. Singlestick, a fourth discipline that first appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was later abandoned, is not a part of contemporary fencing. One of the first sports to be included in the Olympics was fencing. The classical European martial art of fencing, which was adopted by the Italian school and then improved by the French school, served as the foundation for the modern sport, which emerged at the end of the 19th century.
Like stated before modern fencing is separated into three competitive scenes: foil, épée, and sabre. Each of these scenes uses a different type of weapon and has its own set of regulations. The majority of competitive fencers opt to focus exclusively on one weapon.
It was really interesting stuff to learn.
"That is all for today's lesson, there will be an end-of-term test that decides who is worthy and who is not so review and memorise the content I have given out through the notes you have written. Now go and enjoy the food at the cafeteria." The teacher dismissed us, as people stood up from their seats hurriedly going to the cafeteria.
However, there were two people you recognised during the lecture, as Emma was curious about what I was looking at, as she to realised why I was looking in the first place.
"It's them. . . I can't believe it." She muttered out in shock.
"Who's them?" Julian and Rebecca asked, looking the same way as us now.
"It's nothing, just some people we met before we arrived at the opening ceremony with all of the juniors." I simply said as I looked at Christal who I still remembered the name of and her brother.
Before exiting the lecture room, she glanced over her shoulder to see me, and she gave me a slight smile before leaving with her brother.
I did the same smiling at her.
"Alright now before we head to the cafeteria let's see all the notes you have and we'll make one big note for all the stuff we have that is similar to one another," Julian said, as well all showed the notes that we had written.
After a couple of minutes, we had written the important notes on one piece of paper as we all headed to the cafeteria.
The cafeteria was just as expected.
Dull.
But what was worse, was the food that the cafeteria had if you were a rich snob of course.
Julian on my beside me while Emma and Rebecca were across the table. We all dug into our food happily. The food honestly wasn't that bad we had a variety of choices, like chicken, hamburgers, hotdogs and many more they didn't taste the best, but when you've eaten shit food that tasted like actual garbage this food here was amazing.
All I could hear were the complaints that the rich people were having like. . .
Their food wasn't cooked right.
This is commoner food.
When is the real food coming out?
Emma rolled her eyes at the comments that we all overheard.
"Classic rich snobs all they do is complain." Emma groaned eating the food.
"That may be true that they complain but we can't call them snobs blame their parents not them," Julian said.
Emma nodded her hand as she continued eating her food.
"All factions the practical lessons will shortly begin, enjoy the remaining food that is left on your plates and please head to the training area where all the seniors and sophomores will be waiting for your impending arrival."
"I guess we're going to be heading there soon, I guess we should pack everything up first," Julian said as we all noticed that the others simply sat up from their seats, leaving the plates in a mess. A total pigsty.
The least we could all do was do the bare minimum in cleaning our plates up.
The others snickered with one another as they saw what we were all doing.
I guess this is the role of a person who is not. . .
Gifted.
