Leas cooked this awesome mix of bacon, eggs and hashbrowns and shared it with her. He made sure to mix it all up for her to easily eat, having no other alternative. He did make a comment about getting dog food later, which she whimpered out of despair. She will leave if he does that. Leas laughed at the reaction, later stating that he would only treat her with the best brand.
Sometime in the morning, he finished his plate and moved towards the phone with a yellow book. Idonea wondered who he was trying to reach. He wasn't vocal about who. The only time she realized who he was trying to reach was when he dialed the digits, and the phone rang.
It kept ringing, the look on Leas' grim face made her nervous. It cuts off, then there is no voicemail. Usually, voicemails were a luxury at this day and age. Idonea remembered a while back that the most luxurious thing a person could have was their own horse carriage.
"Man...that's odd. I thought she would at least answer the phone." Leas tapped his bare foot on the carpet. With his cute little blond head, he thought it a good idea to redial.
She?! Wolf Idonea padded over to investigate. Thinking he was just reaching out to another woman. Anyone but herself, his features alone can earn him enough lovers.
Maybe finding out that he does have multiple partners will tear away this naive sense of attraction. It will be easier to move on. Then a comment slipped past his mouth, making her all embarrassed for thinking so lowly of him.
"I wonder if Idonea is okay...what do you think, my pretty pup?" He hung the phone back to its place, then petted the she-wolf from head to neck. He was forcing this grin, to hide some of his sadness. "Should I check up on her?"
Idonea froze, blinking. Uh oh.
She sat right down, about to shake her head, but thought against it. If he thinks she is responding to his comment too accurately, then he might start becoming suspicious. Instead, she yipped, wagging her bushy red tail.
"I should...shouldn't I?"
That is exactly the opposite of what I want! Her ears twitched, fighting the urge to panic. He only petted her more, a big grin on his face. "She might not like it if I just showed up...unannounced."
Good! He isn't a creeper!? Idonea yips again, proud that he knows better than to show up at a lone woman's apartment. Especially when they just met two days ago.
"But” He increased his petting, now rubbing his face into the side of her neck while kneeling to do so. He smelled so good, and his touch felt just as wonderful, causing her tail to thump hard on the carpeted floor. "I could always bring you! Idonea might know who your owners are."
Nope nope.... She sank into his touch, her throat rumbling in pleasure from it. Almost forgetting what she was here for in the first place.
Her temptations got the best of her as she rested huge paws on his chest, and her nose with her tongue stamped his neck. He reacted with some laughter and very weak retorts. A very scary thought rushed through her head. One that involves pinning him down to the ground just to have her way with him. Transform back even and take him on the ride of his life. Again, with these thoughts...
Idonea fights it down because it is the worst thing, she would do to him. It might make him respond horribly if she changed in front of him. He might even call the police on her for masquerading as a dog just to stalk him. Worse, he will tell the whole village that there is a werewolf in Kilkeel.
Her heart ached in the imagination. Something like this happened once before to a human that she thought was her best friend. A human she could have sworn she fell in love with. He was an England farmhand, friendly deposition and easy on the eyes. He was taken from the UK to create a colony in the upper crust of Ireland. When they got to know each other, he wasn't aware of her background or her more furry side. They had a few romantic outings. The moment he found out her traits, he raised the whole village to hunt her down. Her mother had to get involved and gather the pack to kill the little colony. It boggled her mind how quick to betray humans can be, because that was the era of Faloadah and the Werewolves of Ossory were a true staple of human and werewolf cohesion. That incident led them to break ties with humanity and werewolves were forced to hide away. They were pushed away from Ireland, since the fear of werewolves also birthed the culling of natural wolves in the country.
It still affects her, remembering how her mother would describe humans.
"Fickle feeble little ants they are. Their lives are fleeting, so their loyalty and love are just as fleeting. At least you don't have to watch your mortal lover die from old age."
And she was right. Any werewolf that kept their mortal lover from this societal contract lost them from natural causes and had to deal with the loss. The loss of a lover is so painful for a werewolf that many leave the pack or become very silent. There is nothing that a werewolf can do to change the mortality of someone. Her mother was the only one who could get through such a loss, already losing her true mate after having Idonea and her littermates...
"These short loves cannot compare to the love I had for your father... He was a foolish werewolf-like you-who saw the good in humans. Got himself killed by one...that moron."
Right...my father. The thought cooled her desires, pushing away from Leas with a shake of her fur. A sign of weariness from all the petting, even though a growing side of her wants it to keep going.
"Fine, fine. I bet you're itching to go to your family." He straightened himself on the balls of his heels, his smile was still there, but this one held a touch of sadness. Why does he keep himself so alone if he craves the attention of others?
What is he hiding that makes him take the extra caution to keep people at arm's length?
He could have anyone as his companion. Heck, it's weird that he doesn't even have his own pet with the way he coddles her.
He had the heart for one. He was never going to give her those answers right now. And it shouldn't matter to her, right? Her attention was on him getting ready to depart. Slipping on his shoes and grabbing his car keys.
He gestures to her to follow, "Come my beautiful pup!"
Idonea would sigh if she could, but instead trotted over to his side. She just hopes she can think up a way to escape without getting found out or upsetting the rather charming radio host. At least until she leaves him on a good note. Leave him knowing that their relationship can't surpass acquaintanceship.
