Her cat greeted her with a loud MREOW, Mayumi laughed as she petted her cat.
She had a Siamese who's name was Cleo. She was very loud and beautiful.
"Would you like some dinner?" Mayumi asked as she went over to the kitchen, she grabbed a can of wet food and put it on her cat's dish. She breathed in, happy to be home.
Although her apartment was a small loft, she was still happy. She preferred it cosier.
She placed her stuff down in front of the staircase to her bed. Mayumi helped herself to a warm shower, though she couldn't help but think about Simon while she stood there. Her face flushed pink, thinking she only felt warm because of the shower, she got it and changed into her pyjamas and then she went and made herself dinner.
She sat on her couch eating fried chicken and fries, and relaxed. It was a stressful day for her and she was going to use the rest of the day all to herself.
She turned on the television and switched to the news. The news anchors were the same as always, a lady and a man, Mayumi's face stiffened as she became confused.
On the television she saw Vex, normal, but what wasn't normal was his opponent, someone who had powers as well. She watched as Vex fought with his bare hands against a gorgeous girl who looked like a doll in a beautiful black gothic lolita dress. She used black roses to fight, anywhere she pointed her umbrella, the roses would follow.
Mayumi found her gaze fixed to the screen as she watched. Rooting for Vex was all she could do.
She didn't know how much time had passed, what she did know was that the battle was over. The girl had fled the scene but not before hitting Vex one last time. Mayumi stood up quickly and sat closer to the screen, the news switched from the live footage back to the news anchors. They congratulated Vex for another victory and thanked him once more for saving the city, but Mayumi knew everyone was worried. Vex did not look good after that one.
An opponent that evenly matched his abilities.. What did that mean for the city? It was scary.
Mayu opened up Mine. She read through posts upon posts of worried fans. Vex was evenly matched. Vex couldn't win every fight. Vex was going to die. Her eyes shifted rapidly through the headlines, supporters of Vex wondering just what would happen next.
She found herself writing a post as well.
Vex. If you're reading this. The city supports you. We love you and we're thankful for all your help. You are and always will be, our hero.
Sent.
She went to her messages and sent a quick message to Simon.
Have you seen the news?
Yeah.
I hope he's alright. He saved me this morning.
Yeah.
You alright?
Yeah don't worry about me!
You can come over for some food if you'd like..
Ah, sorry I'm busy tonight! What about Friday?
Sure. I'll invite Tala as well.
Sounds like a plan.
Mayumi sent over her address. Putting her phone down, she continued to eat. It helped calm her nerves about her upcoming graduation. Food was always her comfort food, getting into baking was really a gift from God for her. Now she could make it a job and-
Knock knock
Her thoughts were interrupted by a thumping at the window. Mayumi looked at her window, Vex's costume glowed, she looked at his eyes, they brightly glimmered red. She grabbed her pocket taser and pepper spray, tossing them into her pockets and then she quickly opened her window and let the beaten up hero in.
"I'm sorry for the interruption, may I rest here for a bit?" He asked politely, no matter how formal or how politely Vex spoke, he looked angry and distressed. He was covered in scratches and it looked like this fight really got to him.
Mayumi nodded and made sure to keep her hands near her pockets. Although he was the city's hero, she had to be careful. Who would take care of Cleo if she wasn't there?
"You can borrow my shower if you want, you're our city's hero of course. I'll grab you some food." She started running around her apartment. Vex made his way into her bathroom. Mayumi pretended everything was fine but it really wasn't. The city's pride and joy was at her house, looking very rough. It was confusing as to why he was there but.. he was.
She warmed up some leftover chicken and fries and sat them down on the coffee table where she had been sitting before.
He emerged from the shower, still in his costume of course. It seemed like the costume itself was self healing. That awed her, it was still weird to her that the man in front of her was a hero, he was superhuman, he did things she couldn't dream of doing. It was like magic.
"Uhum.. food." She pointed to the plate she had just set, he smiled and sat down beginning to eat. Mayumi was sitting on her couch a little far from Vex. Of course she was awkward. This was an awkward situation.
"How are you?" She asked, of course, on the subject of his recent battle.
He sat, seemingly not knowing how to answer. He swallowed before he opened his mouth to respond.
"I guess, I'm just confused, where were these enemies coming from? Recently there's been others with powers not too different from my own. It's weird, because there's more than just one. I'm outnumbered but I have the whole city relying on me." He responded solemnly. Mayumi nodded and patted his back.
"You also have the whole city supporting you. Your feelings are very justified, I couldn't even dream of doing the things you're doing, you should be proud of yourself. I'm proud of you. You've been protecting us all this time." She replied, Vex looked down, continuing to eat. Mayumi grabbed herself a controller and turned on her U-Box. She had been planning on playing games all night, the next day was a weekend. Even though Vex was there, it would've been awkward just to sit there in silence.
"I'm gonna, game now-" she smiled and started planning. She loved first person shooters and so she was enjoying this one. A movement first person shooter with a team of 3. It made her forget about her world for now and made her part of another world.
Vex sat there staring at the screen. He was perplexed, he'd always been so busy playing games was weird. Simple, fun, no purpose at all. He was most definitely intrigued. This made him think.. watching her have fun.. he was a hero. It was his job to protect the smiles of these citizens.
mmMMREOOOOWWW
Vex stood up quickly looking around for the source of the noise. There, at his feet, a fat cat. She had an angry look on her face as she sniffed Vex.
"Cleo, what are you doing?" Mayu giggled and picked up her cat, placing her down on her lap. Fastening herself back into the true gamer position.
"Sorry, she's a very friendly cat.. don't worry, she's not mad. That's just her face." Mayu added, Vex looked at the cat and the cat looked back. It was almost as if this cat was reading Vex's mind and placing her own thoughts inside his mind.
"No, I'm getting the feeling she wants me out," he laughed. It was getting really late at this point. He stood up, bringing his dishes to the kitchen. Mayu nodded awkwardly.
"Well, yeah, I guess.." Mayu chuckled and hurriedly nudged Vex towards her front door. Her face was a light pink, realising that it was.. in fact.. her alone with the hero of the city in her apartment.
"I think I'll go out this way." Vex laughed, petting Mayu's head as he ran towards her window, he launched himself out of the apartment while shouting.
"Cya cutie!"
Mayumi ran towards the window only to see his neon lights slowly fading away into the city he protected. Her facial features softened. That was nice. She placed herself back onto her couch and started a new match. She was going to do what she set out to do all day.. game.
