3-Welcome into University party
Haneul's pov
I can't believe it. I knew I wouldn't enjoy living in a dorm, especially because I'd have a roommate but clearly, it's gonna be worse than I thought.
I was totally not expecting my roommate to be there when I arrived and did not expect that kind of welcome.
That was only an hour ago and I'm already thinking about how I'll survive in dorms. Trust me, I know how to do things independently but the problem is my roommate...
It seems like my roommate is Alexandra. She wanted me to call her Alex but no way I'm doing that, we aren't on a friendly basis.
As soon as I saw how upbeat, outgoing and energetic she was, I knew it would be a nightmare having her as my roommate. I hate the kind of girls like her the most.
She's the exact opposite of me and I could tell from the get-go. I could tell she wanted us to be besties but I have no intention to do that.
Alexandra Littlewood, I will certainly not forget that name. She's taller than me by a lot, I'll say 5.5 ft. She is quite fit but not too muscular either. She's tan and has straight honey hair that stops right below her shoulders.
What ticked me off immediately was her piercings. How the hell can she possibly have that many piercings on her ears, one on her nose and even one on her navel!?
Yes, she also was wearing a sort of tank top, we could see her stomach, hence how I saw the navel piercing. I wouldn't be surprised if she had a tattoo. This is a huge red flag.
Those types of girls scream trouble and I'm certainly not looking for that right now.
Other than that, call me crazy but she had from the few seconds I saw her, gay energy in her.
Don't ask me how I know, it's Johnny. Jonathan's as Bi as he can be. Gosh, and he makes sure I know. So yeah, thanks to him or maybe more so unfortunately because of him, I have a sort of gaydar.
I don't care whether she's gay or not but I fear she'll bring a girl home and bother my studying or better yet throw a party.
I came here to study seriously to become a neurosurgeon not be bothered by a girl like her.
She also has this influencer energy coming off her and they're the type of people that can't shut up. This is
Even if I knew I had no intention of becoming friends with my future roommate, I surely don't want that now. I just want to stay as far away from her as possible.
So maybe I was a bit rude by telling her straight up to stop the act by saying I had no intention to bond with her but I had to. I can't possibly have her have the wrong idea. She needs to know because, after all, I'll be her roommate all year, unfortunately.
I would love to ask for another room but I can't when I'm on a scholarship. I can't cause them more trouble already. I'll just suck it up.
After telling her I had no intention of forming a friendship with her, she did indeed drop her friendly act. She didn't like how I was acting and was a bit hurt.
She tried to ask why I didn't want to get along with her and even tried to get to know me.
I dodged most of her questions but she knows the base. After a while, she finally realized I wasn't having it and finally left me alone and that was just 15 minutes ago too.
Gosh...I hope she won't bother me tonight. I heard we have a karaoke night at the bar for new students she says she'll go.
I would rather die than go there but I know Jonathan will kill me if I don't. He says I'm too serious for my own good and that I should let it go sometimes. Says the one who's always obsessed with something and can't let it go.
I'm currently in my new room unpacking my things.
The dorms are different than I expected. Alexandra and I have each our rooms and thank gosh for that, I would go crazy, I can't possibly share a room with a girl like her.
Through, we have to share the same bathroom, that's going to be a pain. At least we don't have to share with others. We even have a small kitchen and living area, it's cool but not when I know I'll have to share with my roommate. I'll try to avoid her as much as possible. Let's hope she and I really don't have the same schedule of classes.
Regardless, I'm sure a call from Jonathan will come any minute. I'm not sure though if Alexandra left the dorm. She is quite quiet if she doesn't.
And as I predicted it, Jonathan is calling me. Good because I would rather talk to him than be stuck with my new roommate.
Jonathan: Hey! How did things go? Who's your roommate?
Haneul: Gosh, I hate her already. Apparently, her name is Alexandra Littlewood and can you believe she has piercings?
Jonathan: Piercings? That's cool. Now I want one.
Haneul: Stop joking around, I'm serious. Piercings mean one thing, she screams trouble.
Jonathan: What'd she do to make it seem like that?
Haneul: She was all upbeat when she told me her name and wanted to me by a friend. Gosh, I hate girls like her. So, I told her what was on my mind, I told her I had no intention of being friends with her.
Jonathan: Oof, rough but it's good you told her that. She didn't do anything wrong but she should know what she's signing up for.
Haneul: Yeah, I hope I won't get bothered in my studies. After I told her that, she kept bothering me by asking questions, she wanted to know who I was and why I didn't want to be friends with her.
Jonathan: Damn, that seems like your absolute nightmare.
Haneul: Exactly, I know that I hate my roommate but what about yours?
Jonathan: He's decent. Luckily for me, he didn't get scared of me, he found it cool and interesting he said. He said his name was Chase Blanchard. I think he's cool but he seems similar to your roommate. I doubt you'd like him.
Haneul: And you're spot on. Overly friendly people? I've got no time for that.
Jonathan laughs on the other side of the phone.
Jonathan: Oh, we know that for sure. You made sure nothing and absolutely no one could come between us in our senior year.
Haneul: Oh come on, don't remind me of that. I had to do that either way, no way was I not getting into Yale and losing my scholarship.
Jonathan: Gosh, we had no life last year and I get you want to study hard this year and so will I but please let's go to the welcome karaoke night for the new students. I know you hate those kinds of stuff but just for tonight."
Haneul: Fine, I'm going just for tonight. I knew you would ask me that anyway.
Jonathan: Yes, it'll be nice. Chase invited me to go and he promised me to introduce me to others. It's perfect because it's an opportunity to meet others and I really need that, you know?
Haneul: Oh yeah, I know you want to be an example. You'll do anything to make it happen. Are you hoping to be known as the future CEO or something?
Jonathan: Why not? It's a good start. They need to know who I am. The sooner the better.
Haneul: Sometimes I don't understand why I became friends with you.
Jonathan: Because you love me.
Haneul: Please don't say that...I can't tell if you're kidding or not.
Jonathan: Oh come on Han, it's all in the past. Stop freaking out every time I say the L word.
Haneul: I know but I can't forget that you used to mean it.
Jonathan: Come on, we already established that we'll stay best friends and I'll respect that. Instead of talking of such a thing, how about you prepare yourself for tonight!? I'll come to your dorm in 10 minutes!
He hangs up and I sigh.
Yeah, I can't forget my mistake of giving in to Jonathan's feelings.
It's 7 pm EST now and I'm surprised Alexandra hasn't tried to eat or maybe she isn't there. I might as well leave my room and check if she's here or not.
I get out and notice how silent it is. Her door isn't closed and she's obviously not in it. Thank god, she left. I hope she doesn't come back tonight but why wouldn't she? It's her dorm. Ugh, I already dread having to see her again after the welcome party. Enough, why am I letting this get to me? This isn't like me.
It doesn't take long for Jonathan to knock on the door and I open it.
"Hmm, your dorm seems more cozy for some reason.
"Is that the only thing that you like about my dorm?" I say annoyed and he chuckles.
"Had to point it out, ready to go? I swear tonight will be nice. They'll all welcome us."
"I know that but it doesn't stop me from not liking those types of parties."
"Yeah, usually it's not my thing either as I prefer working hard to pursue what I want but now that we are at University, parties are the thing that will help me get what I want."
"Most things you pursue are people."
"Hey! When was the last time you saw me chase after a girl or a guy?!" He says agitated.
"A few months ago?"
"Lies, how can you lie about that? It was more than a year ago. Senior year was our year to work hard to get into Yale and it worked. I got what I wanted and you know I wanted to get accepted into Yale more than get myself a boyfriend or girlfriend."
"Yeah, I know that but I was only getting you back for earlier. You have a long history of dating unlike me but then again it's because you scare them off."
"Yo, when was the last time I scared off someone?"
"You scare off everyone with your temper." I point out.
"Hey! Stop saying I have a temper! I thought earlier was enough! I don't need to have a second Nick in my life." I chuckle and he glares at me.
"Why do you let him get to you? He's nothing more than just Myung's best friend."
"You know how it started, he started it. The day he decided to call me freshman as an insult when I was dating his sister, he knew what he was getting into."
"What about the time you dated Felix?" I decided to point out the past since he started it.
"You know the story, we always argued with each other ever since he caught me doing it with his brother."
"I mean, I can't blame him for that."
"Haneul, don't be on his side! He was way too overprotective!"
"And why does it still bother you? You broke up with Felix over two years ago."
"That's different, he was our friend."
"Thanks for stating the obvious," I say sarcastically and honestly a bit annoyed.
"I mean I have to because a certain antisocial girl keeps denying she had friends other than me during our high school years." Instantly, he gets me fired up.
"Hey! I'm not denying it. The truth is that things ended between you and Felix and I had no intention of remaining his friend after you know. The only one that remains is you, so that's what matters."
"Yeah, you're right about that. As for Nick, it's both a blessing and a curse that he's still in our lives. He's your brother's best friend but at the same time, I don't have to deal with his overprotectiveness. Gosh, he was awful. He's better as just a mutual friend than a bother-in-law. He's the brother-in-law you don't want to have."
"Oh, please stop talking about your dating experience, I don't want to hear it right now."
"Hey, I can't deny the truth that I have experiences while you'd have none if it weren't for me." I give him a killer glare and he instantly stops talking about our past.
"OK, we should go now. Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah but aren't we supposed to eat first?"
"Why?"
"Hello? It's 7 pm here, not 4 pm like back home. We have to get used to it even if we aren't hungry and on jetlag." I say annoyed and stating the obvious.
"Oops, I guess I forgot. We'll go grab something then on the way."
"Do you know where's the place?"
"You don't know?" Jonathan says confused.
"I didn't care to ask my roommate."
"Damn ok, anyway, it's not even 5 minutes from here and I heard it's a good place, that's what I heard from Chase."
"He's not coming with us, is he?"
"He's not right now but he might join us."
"Ok, kill me now."
"Hey, I said to Chilax. Let's have fun tonight. It's our welcome party."
"I find it hard to believe you'd want that instead of fixing a new objective."
"Oh come on, you know me better than that. I'll relax and focus on my objective of others knowing who I am."
"Yeah, yeah future CEO," I say annoyed and he laughs.
We finally leave my dorm and take the stairs to go outside.
——————
In the end, we went to eat at a restaurant close to our dorms. The food at the restaurant was good but Jonathan really wanted some takeout so he basically argued his way out of it and we somehow got takeout even if it's barely legal.
Oh well, with Johnny it's always his way or the highway. I'm the only one with whom it doesn't work and he definitely knows that.
Anyway, we ate the take outside while the sun was setting and now we are going to that stupid welcome party.
We get in and immediately we get surrounded by a random blond guy. He seems to be a student at least...
"Hey! What took so long?! We were waiting for you two. We were starting to think you won't come." He was waiting for us? I don't even know him. Who is that guy?
"Hey, do you know that guy?" I whisper to Jonathan.
"He's my roommate, Chase the guy I talked to you about."
"You were right, I already don't like him." Jonathan just smiles.
What has my attention, is how packed the karaoke place slash bar is. Dang, not only new students are there, but seniors too. I have never gone to such a party. Why did I come here? I should have just stayed in the dorms.
"Well, it wasn't my intention but we ran into a small issue with a restaurant not too far from here so yeah."
"Is it Sogni?" The blond guy says.
"Yeah, what's with the Italian name?" Jonathan says a bit irritated and I glare at Jonathan over his stupidity, though he ignores it.
"There's always issues there. Anyway, I'm glad you made it, that's your friend Haneul, Alex's roommate right? I'm Chase." He asks. What? Does he know Alex?
"Yeah, she's my friend, wait you know Alexandra?" Jonathan says confused and dumbfounded.
"Yeah, in fact, she's not far from here, Alex! Carla! Come here! My roomie is here!" Chase says loudly and surely those two girls come into view.
"Look, it seems like my roommate is friends with yours. How small is the world?!" Chase says happily and amazed.
At that moment, I couldn't do anything else than glare at Alexandra, though she didn't share my mood.
"Hey, Haneul! I didn't know you'd come to the party! Wow, that's so cool that your friend is Chase's roommate!" Alexandra says excitedly. Not cool at all...
"Yeah, I know, right?" Chase says.
"Gosh, you guys are lucky. Mine's just a sophisticated girl." That other friend Carla I believe says.
"Wow, that sucks but you'll manage, I'm sure of it!" Chase says.
"Yeah, I'll get the hang of it. So Haneul is it?" That Carla girl says.
"Yes, my name is Haneul."
"You're so pretty!" Carla says.
"I agree, you're quite hot." The guy Chase says. What on earth is going on?
"Hey, I get that you find her pretty but she's off-limits." Jonathan comes to my rescue.
"Oh, sorry, I didn't know you two were a thing." I glare at all of them.
"Oh, no, we're just friends."
"Oh, I get it, I shouldn't have assumed."
"Hey Haneul, how about I introduce some people to you and your friend?" Alex asks happily.
Ugh, this is the worst...Why does Jonathan's roommate have to be friends with my roommate...?
