RoaR#11
It was very dark now and Roar and the elf kept on running with no place to go. Flashing spells were buzzing by their ears as they kept on running. They heard running sounds behind them as well. Roar looked behind him for a second and saw ten shadowy figures following after them with great speed. He looked at the elf. “What now elf?” Roar said with a bit of concern.
The elf shouted.” I don’t know Roar! I don’t know!”. They kept on running and Roar looked at her concerned expression and saw that she was panicking a bit and holding the glass jar with the glowing herb close to her heart. He felt her concern and slowed down a bit so she got in front of him.
Roar looked at her back. He felt that she was carrying a big burden for such a small back. He then pushed her forward.
The elf felt a big hand pushing on her back and was given a great boost of speed but she looked back at Roar and shouted.” No! Roar!!!”. He smiled at her and turned back to the shadowy figures.
The shadowy figures laughed with malice and wanted to kill the barbarian. “You think you can take us on alone?”. They lunged at him and were getting close to him. Suddenly they could not see what was going on.
Roar had kicked the ground and threw dust in their eyes and blinded them. He then proceeded to smash the ground with his leg. the ground was hollow as the town had a sewage system and they fell in it and were swept away by the current of the sewage as they were screaming.
He turned to follow the elf. But one of the shadowy figures was behind him, he had evaded his attacks and was really close to him. He didn’t have enough time to react to it. So, he grit his teeth, ready for what is to come. But an arrow came buzzing by his ear, hitting the last shadowy figure straight in the neck.
The elf had not run as she stayed close to Roar and had her bow drawn. Ready to back him up when needed. And she did just that.
Roar ran towards her after the enemies were dealt with. He reached her and saw her hugging the jar close to her heart and looking at the ground. He shouted.” You should have ran away.”. She did not say anything. He added.” Why did you stay? Why risk it?”. She looked at him with serious and sad eyes while she had the jar near her heart. “I could not risk you!”. He became confused and did not know what to say. He had no idea why she would do that.” Why?”. She did not look at him when he said that and kept looking at the ground.
“psst!”. Roar heard a voice. He looked around and saw an old man calling to them. “Follow me before more of the bastards come.”. Roar did not smell any threat from him whatsoever so he decided to trust him. he decided to follow the old man and he dragged the elf with him as well. They followed him to a quiet part of town where he opened the cellars door for them. They looked at the old man and both entered the cellar.
Once inside, Roar put down the chest that he had been carrying this whole time. The elf sat down on a chair and looked at the old man.” Thank you! “. Roar looked at the old man after sitting down on the ground “Damn I’m tired. Thank you old man! you got any meat?”. the elf gave Roar a serious gaze to make him behave.
Roar misunderstood. “Oh, yea sorry. The elf wants some as well.”. said roar in an apologetic tone.
The elf was embarrassed at Roar’s remark.” What are you saying? No, I don’t!” shouted the elf.
“More meat for me then!” Roar laughed. The elf was arguing with him and Roar was laughing.
The old man looked at their interaction with sad eyes and a smile.
Roar saw him and was really concerned. He walked up to the old man that was wiping a tear. Held his shoulders and with a serious expression said.” Don’t tell me! You don’t have meat?” he looked at him seriously.
The old man started laughing after Roar did that. Roar looked at the elf. “I think he’s broken”. The elf shouted.” You should be thanking him for saving us not insulting him!”.
The old man lifted his hand and they stopped talking.” No. I should be thanking you.”
“Hmm?” Roar looked at the old man confused as always. The elf was confused as well.
“You saved me.” Said the old man.
“Wow Roar. You never cease to amaze me. How did you pull this off?” said the elf with a happy expression.
“I really don’t know. I don’t even know this old man.” Roar was looking at the old man to remember him but he could not, for the life of him.
The old man laughed again.” No, it’s not like that.” He went to sit down and then then he continued. “I bet on him against the bald basher.”
The elf looked at Roar.” The bald basher?”
“It’s a long story.” Said Roar. It seemed he did not want to talk about it.
The old man continued.” I was neck deep in debt and was on my last legs. The odds were three hundred to one so I just took a risk on you Roar. And you made it happen.” The old man looked at Roar with a warm smile.
“Wow!” the elf was amazed because it wasn’t that long since she was separated from Roar.
The old man looked at the jar that the elf had with her.” Oh? Is that a netherglow herb?”
The elf quickly hid the jar in her clothes and said with caution.” How do you know?”
Roar looked at the elf.” Be nice to the old man. elf.”. she sighed and apologized.
“I’m an herbalist and a potion maker.” The old man said with sad eyes.
“Why aren’t you known then? I looked everywhere for someone like you in the town but found none other than them.” The elf added.
“It’s all because of them. They drove me into this state.” Said the old man. he looked towards the elf and asked.” This is a very potent herb you got there. May I ask why?”
“My sister……. She has the Mors disease.” Said the elf with great sadness in her eyes.
“May I ask what stage she is at?” The old man asked.
“she is…….. paralyzed and bedridden.” Said the elf with a great pause in the middle.
The old man’s eyes widened. “Oh. You know….” But before he could continue, she interrupted him.
“I know old man. But I have to try!” said the elf with conviction.
Roar looked on at their interaction. He got up and said. “Yea we will try everything.”. the elf looked at Roar and smiled but the sadness was still present in her eyes.
“I was about to say that I have a sure way to treat her.” Said the old man with a serious look.
They both jerked their heads towards the old man, waiting to hear what he is about to say.
“But it’s incredibly dangerous! For you.” said the old man with a serious tone.
