Later after having their meal ,Anna and Luke sat on a comfortable couch, their hands intertwined. The room was bathed in warm, cozy lighting, creating an atmosphere of relaxation. Anna, her eyes filled with curiosity, gathered the courage to broach a subject that had been on her mind.
“Luke, I've been wondering... I'd love to hear more about your family. What are they like?“ Anna said keeping her warm smile all the time but God knew she was breathless at the moment. Luke's smile faltered for a moment, and he shifted uneasily in his seat. He took a deep breath, clearly apprehensive about the topic.
“Oh, my family? They're... um... they're great. Just your typical family, you know? Nothing really out of the ordinary.“ Luke started in an evading tone. Anna noticed Luke's discomfort but decided to press on gently, her tone filled with genuine interest.
“I'd love to know more, Luke. Are you close to your parents? Do you have any siblings?“ She added sincerely ,this time fidgeting with the edge of her blouse. She was nervorse and scared of loosing the man she cherished.
Luke's eyes darted away momentarily before he met Anna's gaze again, a guarded expression crossing his face. “Yeah, I mean, we're close enough. We see each other from time to time. But, you know, it's not something we really talk about much.“ Luke added vaguely as though he was seated on a hot plate.
Anna sensed Luke's reluctance to delve deeper into the topic and decided to shift gears, hoping to find a more comfortable subject. “Alright, how about work? What do you do for a living?“ Anna asked again trying out something new maybeit woul be more comfortable. She really wanted to know ,even just abit was enough. What was so hard about it? Luke's body tensed slightly, and he looked away, a hint of unease creeping into his voice.
“Work? Oh, it's nothing too exciting. Just your typical nine-to-five job. Let's talk about something else, like that new restaurant that just opened downtown.“ Luke answered trying to change the topic somehow. It's not like he didn't want to tell her . But knowing the truth, wouldn't she leave him. He couldn't let her know.
Anna couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment. She truly wanted to know Luke on a deeper level, but his evasiveness left her yearning for more.
“Luke, I want to know everything about you. Your family, your work, your personal life. I want to understand you on a deeper level. Can we please talk about it?“ Anna insisted sincerely. At this moment Luke knew she was desperate and she would believe anything he told her .
So he took a moment to collect his thoughts, his eyes searching Anna's face. He then pulled her closer to look directly at him.
“You're right, Anna. I've been holding back, and I apologize for that. It's just... my family and I have had some difficult moments, and work has been a source of stress lately. I guess I didn't want to burden you with it.“ Luke said softly keeping his voice down as possible.
Anna reached out and gently placed her hand on Luke's, offering reassurance.
“Luke, you don't have to face everything alone. We're a team, remember? I'm here to support you, to listen, and to be by your side through thick and thin. Please let me in, let us navigate these challenges together.“ Anna said affectionately as she kept her hand on his. Luke's face softened, his guard slowly melting away as he realized the depth of Anna's love and understanding but deep down he knew , there were consequences for what he had done. He had lied to the woman he loved so much. This hurt him deeply.
Just as they were about to delve deeper into their conversation, Luke's phone rang loudly, shattering the tranquility of the room. He glanced at the caller ID and a look of concern flashed across his face. "I'm sorry, Anna . I need to take this. It's an emergency," Luke said apologetically, his voice filled with urgency. Anna nodded understandingly, a hint of worry appearing in her eyes. "Of course, luke. Take your call. I hope everything is alright."
Luke quickly answered the call, his demeanor shifting from relaxation to focus. As he listened to the voice on the other end, his brows furrowed and he asked rapid questions, trying to gather as much information as possible. Anna watched him anxiously, her heart pounding with concern.
After a few tense minutes, luke ended the call and turned to Anna, his expression a mix of worry and determination. "Anna, I'm sorry to interrupt our evening like this, but there's been an accident. It's my brother. He's been rushed to the hospital, and I need to go there immediately." Anna's eyes widened with shock, her concern for Luke's brother overwhelming her. "Oh no, Luke! Is he going to be okay?"
Luke took a deep breath, trying to steady himself. "I don't have all the details yet, but I'm hoping for the best. I need to get to the hospital as soon as possible. Can you understand? Can you forgive me for leaving like this? Anna reached out and held Luke's hand, her voice filled with reassurance. "Luke, family comes first, always. Don't worry about me. I understand completely, and there's nothing to forgive. Go to your brother. I'll be here, praying and hoping for his recovery."
Luke's eyes filled with gratitude as he squeezed Anna's hand. "Thank you, Anna. Your support means the world to me. I promise I'll keep you updated as soon as I know more. Take care of yourself."
Luke immediately rushed out of the room leaving Anna with her thoughts and concerns .
