My New Life From A Former Tyrant

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Sep 04, 2023

I walked out of my room feeling much better after I bathed, and my head feels clearer now, and I can use that to focus on my work. Edith was setting up cups and a kettle with some plates and desserts for me.

"Edith, you do not have to do that. I will be heading to my study to get started on some work," I said, and Edith froze and slowly got up, looking at me.

"Really, your highness?" She asked.

"Yes, is that odd to you?" I asked.

"Well, it is just that Lady Angela comes every day for some tea," Edith said, frowning a bit. Is Edith upset over Angela or that I am working and don't want tea?

"I requested to Charles that I want no visitors today," I said.

"Yes, your Highness," Edith said, collecting the plates on the table.

"Thank you, Edith, but I would appreciate it if you brought tea to my study," I said, and Edith looked at me, blinking before giving me a nod. I tilted my head at the reaction and heard a knock on my door.

"I will get it, your highness," Edith said softly, walking to the door. I looked down at the desserts on the cart, and I ran a finger over the frosting and brought it to my lips, giving it a lick, and I smiled at the sweetness.

"Honey?" I heard, and the happiness that I felt turned sour. I felt the blood in my veins goes cold as I slowly turned, looking at Angela standing there. She was smiling at me with bright red lips. She wore a yellow dress that made her pale skin look somewhat sickly. I clenched my jaw as she walked over to me. She reached out to me, touching my arm, and I jumped back like her touch burned me. She looked up at me and frowned when I never returned her smile.

"What are you doing here?" I asked harshly. She looked at me surprised, blinking at me.

"W- well, we always have tea at this time. I have to say I am surprised you changed rooms," Angela said, looking around my room.

"I felt like I needed a change," I said, and that made Angela look at me, giving me a smile that made me sick to my core.

"Well, no matter, this room will look much better when you paint this over and redesign it," Angela said.

"No," I said.

"W- what?" She said.

"I said no, I will not be changing the design of my room," I stated.

"But I thought that you hated the way the rooms looked?" She asked.

"I never said I did. I only changed it because it was what you wanted," I said.

"Well, that was sweet. You didn't have to," Angela said.

"You are right. I didn't have to, but I did because I loved you," I said. God, I was such a fool.

"L- loved? What do you mean by that?" I asked.

"I remember telling Charles that I didn't want any visitors today," I said, diverting the conversation.

"But I am not just a visitor," Angela said, touching my chest.

"Yes. You are," I said, removing her hand and stepping away.

"Edith, please inform Charles that I would like to see him in my study to speak with him about people coming into the palace whenever they like," I said, facing Edith.

"Yes, your Highness," Edith said, walking out of the room and leaving me and Angela alone.

"Stevie, what is going on?" She said, walking up to me. I sighed and walked to the door holding it open.

"It is Prince Stephen, and you need to leave. Now," I said, and Angela flinched, taking a step deeper into my room.

"N- no, I am not leaving until we talk about this," Angela said.

"Very well, you can stay here, but it will not be long because I will order some knights to escort you out of the palace until you learn how to come here by requesting an audience with me. Good day Lady Angela," I said, walking out of the room and slamming the door behind me. I ran my hand down my face feeling even more frustrated.

"Nicely done," I heard, almost jumping out of my skin. I turned, and Luna leaned against the wall next to the door.

"How long were you standing there?" I asked.

"Let's see," Luna place a finger over her full lips mulling over the question. "Every since miss psycho walked through the doors," She said.

"You were following her?" Luna only smiled at me, and I sighed and started to walk to my study. "You're mad," I said, and she walked alongside me, matching my pace.

"You call it mad I call it an investigation," Luna said.

"Okay, and what did you find in this so call investigation?" I asked, turning down the hall.

"Well, for one, I know who she is working within the palace, and I also know that your cute little maid is in danger," Luna said, and I stopped dead in my tracks.

"How did you find out about this?" I asked in a low voice. Luna started floating and fanned her face.

"Ooh, not you talking deep like Batman," She said.

"Bat? Man?" I said. I will never understand this girl's speech.

"Yea, he is a superhero that fights bad guys, but he is a darker hero," Luna said.

"There are this superhero's in your world, yes?" I asked, continue walking to my study.

"Well, yes and no, but we will talk about that later because your maid comes first," Luna said.

"She is not my maid," I said, stopping in front of the doors of my study and pushing the doors open, stepping to the side to let Luna in.

"My, what a gentleman," she said, landing on her feet and walking inside. I watched her walk in, and how she swung her hips made my mind wander. I resisted a groan by looking up at the ceiling and biting hard on my lip. I walked inside, closing the door behind me, and I sighed, looking around the clean room. Wait, something is wrong. I remember that I haven't been in this room for years because my focus was on Angela, and even then, the room was not clean the last time I left it. I began to feel strange as I looked around the room. The items on my desk were cleaned and sorted into neat piles. The floors were also clean, and any form of garbage was gone.

"Luna, can you see you were in my room?" I asked.

"Uh, no, my powers don't work like that, but I can tell you that whoever was in here really cared about your office," Luna said, sitting on the sofa against the left side of the wall.

"Your powers can tell that?" I asked.

"Uh, no, my eyes," Luna said, and I rolled my eyes, crossing my arms and glaring at her.

"So, is this room safe or not?" I asked.

"Yea, I would know if this room was sus," Luna said. What the hell does Sus mean? Whatever it was, I had more pressing matters to deal with. I walked over to my desk, sat on the chair, and looked through the files. I smiled because the work placed was recent issues that needed to be addressed. Then it hit me that this must have been Charles doing since I said I would use the study. I must thank him later.

"Okay, now that we are alone, tell me what you know about who Angela is working with and why Edith is in danger," I said. Luna's face turned cold, and she moved from the couch to the front of my desk.

"Well, I overheard miss psycho talking to a lady that I assume is this head maid that left you for dead. They were talking about how the new maid seems too focused on caring for you and is basically an obstacle in their way because she has no loyalty towards the nutjob and needs to go for good," Luna said. I felt dread rise to my chest because Angela already has her hooks in the staff, and I need to work even harder to find a way to cut her and her followers out of the palaces for good.

"Did Angela say how they were going do it?" I asked, and Luna floated to my desk and sat down, crossing her legs.

"Actually, she did. You know, for a villain, they shouldn't discuss their evil plan with each other in the open like that. Who knows who would be listening," Luna gave me a wink, and I felt a smile form on my lips. "She is going to get your bestie to do it for her," Luna said. Of course, Angela would get Magus to do her dirty work.

"Okay, I need to figure out a way to keep Magus away, Edith," I said.

"Well, you already made the first step," Luna said.

"How?" I asked.

"Well, you announced that you were demoting Magus, and now all you have to do is make it concrete. It would put him in a bind because if he tries to kill Edith while he is still under the title as your personal knight, then it would just seem like he is completing an order that you made, but if he loses that title, then any crimes he makes will come back on to him and little miss crazy pants," Luna stated. I met many people in my past life, but I never met anyone as intelligent as Luna.

"You know you are right. Now the only problem is that I need to have another personal knight on hand, so if anyone challenges my order, I can have a reason why," I said.

"Well, aren't you lucky that you have me? While exploring the giant place, I overheard some of your staff talking about how you magically became good with a sword and that you must be learning from someone outside of this place," Luna said.

"That is it!" I shot up and pulled Luna into a hug. "Thank you, Luna," I said, pulling away from her. She looked at me, stunned, and her hair was a bright pink like it was on the training ground.

"Uh, y- your welcome, dude," Luna said before licking her lips. I felt my heart pounding in my chest, and my eyes drifted to my lips before her eyes.

I realized I got ahead of myself and almost did something that would make me look like a fool. I released Luna, slowly sat back in my chair, grabbed some papers, and started working on the plan. I felt Luna look at me before she got up from my desk, moving to her spot on the couch. God, I hope I didn't make anything weird now.
