"Hey," he said softly, a mixture of relief and worry evident in his voice. "You're awake. How are you feeling?"
Anna's voice was hoarse as she replied, "I... I'm not sure. My head hurts."
He nodded sympathetically. "You took quite a hit. The doctors say you have a concussion, but thankfully no major injuries."
She winced, feeling the dull ache in her head intensify as she tried to recall the events leading up to the accident. "What happened?"
"You were walking in the rain, lost in thought," he explained gently. "I didn't see you until it was too late. I'm so sorry."
Anna reached for his hand, her touch tentative yet seeking comfort. "It wasn't your fault. I should have been more careful."
He squeezed her hand in reassurance. "Don't blame yourself. I'm just glad you're going to be alright."
As Anna glanced around the room, she noticed a bouquet of flowers on the bedside table. "Are those... for me?"
The man's cheeks tinged with a faint blush as he nodded. "Yes, I thought they might brighten up the room a bit."
A genuine smile curved Anna's lips as she took in the vibrant colors of the flowers. "Thank you. That's really kind of you."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, their hands still intertwined. Anna found solace in his presence, his caring demeanor soothing her wounded spirit.
"I never got the chance to properly introduce myself," he said, breaking the silence. "I'm James Authen."
Anna's heart skipped a beat as she studied James' warm gaze. In that moment, she felt a connection, a spark that defied the circumstances of their meeting.
"I'm Anna Hartsen," she replied, a softness in her voice. "Thank you, James, for being there for me."
He smiled, his eyes filled with tenderness. "It's the least I could do after what happened. I'll stay here as long as you need me." James assured her. “By the way, do u happen to have any close ones, I think we should contact them.“ James continued.
“Yeah, I do but I didn't bother memorising any of their contacts. Did you happen to see my phone.“ Anna asked. “No I didn't” James answered.“ Oh my God, I left my phone at the cafeteria. What am I going to do..oucchh.“ Anna continued as a sharp pain hit he head.
“It's fine, don't stress out it's bad for your health. It's okay, you will stay with me for a meantime.“ James said as he helped Anna to sleep back on the bed, helping her with the pillow to position her head.“ You mean, your place” Anna asked feeling uncomfortable with the idea of staying under the same roof with a handsome young guy.
“Yes, my place , do you have any problem with that because I actually can't leave you by yourself after all I am the one that got you into this mess. I will take care of you, trust me.“ James said as he held a glass of water to her mouth.“ I can do it myself.“Anna said as she took the glass from him and drunk some water. She was feeling embarrassed and her cheeks kept on flushing when ever he looked at her.
“I will take good care of you, get some rest“ James said as he went out of the room. As he walked in the hospital corridors, he got a call.“ Hello it's James… I will be there within an hour.“ He concluded the call , put the phone into his pockets and with one glance at Anna's room, he left.
Luke stood in his father's opulent mansion, surrounded by a whirlwind of activity. Tailors bustled around him, holding up various outfits for his inspection. It was all because of the grand occasion when his father would publicly announce his wedding, a wedding that Luke had no say in. The occasion would be in two months time but his father wanted everything to be inorder before the second month. Everything in the mansion was being replaced.
As he reluctantly tried on one suit after another, his phone vibrated in his pocket. He hastily fished it out, glancing at the caller ID. It was his informant, the one who had been keeping an eye on Anna for him.
Luke's heart skipped a beat as he answered the call, his voice filled with urgency. "What's happened? Is Anna alright?"
The informant's voice crackled through the phone, his words laced with concern. "Luke, I'm sorry to inform you, but there's been an accident. Anna was struck by a car earlier today."
Fear and anguish gripped Luke's heart as he processed the news. Without a second thought, he abandoned the fitting and rushed out of the mansion, his mind solely focused on reaching the hospital.
Minutes later, Luke arrived at the hospital, his heart pounding in his chest. He sprinted through the doors, desperate to find Anna and ensure her well-being. But as he approached the reception desk, he was met with disappointing news.
"I'm sorry, sir," the nurse said with a sympathetic smile. "Anna has already been discharged. She's no longer here."
Luke's shoulders slumped, his worry escalating. He felt a mix of relief that Anna was no longer in critical condition but a surge of frustration that he hadn't been there for her.
"Can you tell me where she went?" Luke pleaded, his voice trembling with emotion. "I need to find her."
The nurse shook her head. "I'm sorry, sir. We can't disclose patient information. You could try contacting her or waiting for her to reach out to you."
Luke thanked the nurse and left the hospital, his mind racing with unanswered questions. He needed to find Anna, to ensure her safety, but he had no idea where to begin.
Returning to his car, Luke sat in silence for a moment, contemplating his next move. Then, determination surged within him. He would search for Anna tirelessly, leaving no stone unturned until he found her.
As he drove through the city, his eyes scanning the streets for any sign of Anna, a sense of guilt washed over him. He had ended their relationship to protect her, believing it was the right thing to do. But now, in the face of uncertainty and the possibility of losing her, he questioned whether he had made the right choice.
Anna had become more than just a fleeting romance. She had touched his heart, and the thought of her in pain made him ache with regret. He couldn't bear the idea of losing her, not now, not after everything they had shared.
With renewed determination, Luke vowed to make things right. He would find Anna, apologize for his actions, and stand by her side, regardless of the consequences. No matter what obstacles lay ahead, he would fight for their love and protect her with everything he had.
He decided he should try going to her place but recalled he didn't know her address. There and then he called his informant. “Tom, get me Anna's address , I want it now ,right now.“ Luke shouted through the phone.“ I will work on it right away Sir” Tom answered as he got to work.
Luke was desperate , he needed to find her. His hands went through his messy hair every minute he was going mad . He wanted to see her and hoped she's fine. Even though he had hurt her, he knew she would understand him but would she?
As he looked at his phone to check the address Tom had sent him, his phone vibrated. It was a message from his dad.
“I want you home, now” without any other choice he turned his car and decided to drive home first. His father rarely texted him, either it was business or it was way very important. He hit a couple of fists to his chest as he couldn't take it anymore. At this moment, tears started making their way down his cheeks.
