The boy was small for his age and incredibly fast. He barely made a sound on the fallen leaves.
“Can’t we just let him go? He’s just a kid! What harm can he do?” I asked I was tired of this whole stupid mission. I didn’t sign up to commit cold-blooded murder. Though technically he didn’t hurt anyone. I spent most of the time trying to stop them.
There were a few of the people I tried to save but they were too far gone.
We skidded to a halt, a wide cliff suddenly cut us off from the other side.
“Set up camp, we will look for him tomorrow,” Dad said
Once everyone was asleep I went to look for the boy. “Where are you going?” One of the guards asked.
“Where do you think?” I bit his lip, crossing his legs.
He sighed.
I went to the cliff. There was a cave below, if I had to guess the boy was hiding in there. I sat down looking at the stars. This place made them brighter, it was the magic it seemed to bleed out of everything here.
“Rais?” Marcus yawned. Sitting next to him “Nice night isn’t it?”
“Yeah.” I sniffed. “Do you think I was weak for not wanting to fight? I mean what are we even doing here?”
“I don’t think so… I think Dad is so hard on you because you remind him of Mom… and I don’t know. Something about the elf king. Dad wants something from him, you should get some sleep. We have an early day tomorrow.”
“W-wait. I’m like mom?”
“Yeah, she always had a different view on things than Dad did. Including magic. You take after her.”
Marcus smiled.
“Do you think the boy will be okay?”
“I don’t know, Dad was given strict orders to get rid of everyone except for the king.”
“I don’t get what the elders want with an elf king. We’re in 2 completely different worlds. This place is so beautiful.”
I sighed. I didn’t understand why they divided the worlds, but then again humans never had respect for the earth and what you can get from it. These elves lived in it, the trees had houses in them, and they ate only the food they grow. I sometimes wished the elves could teach us how, I doubt it would do anything but it would be nice.
“We’d better get some sleep, we have a busy day tomorrow.” Marcus yawned.
“Okay.” I followed.
My mind was on the boy all night, one of the guards barged into Dad's tent, “Sir we found the elf king… and a boy is with him,”
