Tesla ran a hand through her hair as a voice called out. “Wake up or miss breakfast!” It was muffled to the point that Ever couldn’t tell who was speaking.
Tesla stood up causing the bed to squeak at the sudden movement. “We should probably get down there. She’s serious ‘bout the no breakfast thing.” Just then Ever’s stomach spoke up protesting its emptiness.
Placing their hand over their stomach Ever muttered. “Yeah. Breakfast sounds good.” Tesla walked over to Ever turning her back to them and crouching down. Ever quirked a brow at Tesla. “What are you doing?”
Tesla looked over her shoulder. “I’mma carry you downstairs. Easier that way.” Ever nodded, wrapping their arm around Tesla's neck and letting her pull them up onto her back. Tesla gripped their thighs hoisting them up higher on her back and Ever wrapped their legs tightly around Tesla’s waist as she opened the door.
The trek downstairs was uneventful and when they entered the kitchen Ever’s nose was assaulted by the wonderful scent of: “Pancakes.” The smell made their mouth water and their stomach growl as Tesla set them down on a chair. Ever searched for the source of the smell finding it at the stove where Jax was currently cooking up a storm. There was a plate stacked with pancakes and another stacked with what looked like Canadian bacon. As they stared at the food their stomach growled loud enough that they felt the need to apologize.
Tesla simply laughed and smiled. “Don’t worry ‘bout it. I’ll make you a plate.” Ever watched as she picked up a plate from the stack and pile it high with pancakes and bacon. Tesla placed it in front of Ever before pulling a fork and knife from a cylindrical container and setting them next to the plate with a smile. “Dig in. If you don’ finish it give it to me. Matron Julia doesn’t like leftovers.”
Ever nodded as they picked up the fork awkwardly stabbing one of the pancakes they leaned forward struggling to maneuver the food into their mouth. Tearing off a chunk, Eve leaned back up to find two pairs of eyes staring at them. They chewed slowly before saying around their mouthful. “What? It’s hard to eat pancakes with one hand.” Ever swallowed their food as Tesla stood up moving over to where they sat taking the fork from them and picking up the knife she cut up their pancakes.
Tesla handed Ever back the fork as she finished cutting them up. “There that should be easier.”
Ever stabbed several pieces of pancake shoving them into their mouth. Chewing and swallowing as fast as they could before shoving in another mouthful. Soon all that was left was the slices of bacon and Ever didn’t waste time in devouring them as well. They pushed their plate forward and mumbled around a mouthful of food. “More please.” Ever watched as Tesla and Jax exchanged looks and Ever swallowed. “What?”
Tesla scratched the back of her head and muttered. “We don’t normally do seconds ‘round here but, hey, if yer still hungry we can get somethin’ to eat in town. How’s that sound?”
Ever looked at Tesla tilting their head in confusion. “In town?”
“Oh right, I never told you. Matron Julia said I hav’ta bring you into town to get ya fitted for fakes and new clothes. Mine are too big and, even if they weren’t, there’s not enough of ‘em fer both of us.” Tesla smiled and Ever looked down at the clothes on their person to see that, yes, they were much too big for them. They hung loosely on their body and Ever was suddenly very aware that they were very close to showing their breasts to the two people in front of them.
Ever grabbed a fistful of fabric, pulling it up their chest, their face flushing. Suddenly Ever processed what Tesla had said before her comment about their clothes. “Fakes?”
Tesla pointed at her arm and said. “For yer arm ‘n leg. So, you can walk on your own.”
Ever looked over at their lack of an arm and mused to themselves. ‘That does seem like a good idea.’
“We should probably leave soon if we want to catch the next airship into town,” Tesla said as she stood up stretching her arms over her head. “I’ll lend ya some shoes. Or rather a shoe.”
As Tesla moved around the table, Ever quirked an eyebrow at her. “Airship?”
“Oh yeah. It’s the fastest way to get ta Liberty from here.” She moved toward the door. “Wait here while I get ready. I’ll be quick.” Ever watched her disappear around the corner before turning back to the table to see another plate of food in front of them.
Ever looked over at Jaxson who was back at the stove making more food as he said. “Keep this between us, understand?” Ever nodded, picking up their fork and digging into the eggs and bacon that had been put in front of them. Ever took their time eating, savoring the flavor of the food before finishing it off.
Ever had just set their fork down when Tesla announced her presence. “Sorry I took so long. I had a hard time findin’ a shoe that would fit ya.” Ever turned around to see Tesla standing in the doorway wearing a light pink button-up shirt tucked loosely into a pair of jeans which were held up by a pair of leather suspenders. She had a leather messenger bag over her shoulder which bounced slightly as she moved forward. Kneeling in front of Ever she slipped the shoe onto their foot.
“Hey, that’s mine!” Jax screeched as Tesla stood up stretching her back.
She turned to look at Jax. “Well, none of mine woulda fit ‘em so I grabbed one a' yours cuz’ yer feet are small an’ all.”
“Are not!” Jaxson cried.
She turned back to Ever and smiled. “How’s it fit?”
Ever looked down at the shoe which was a loafer made of brown leather. It pinched them slightly around the heel as Ever looked up at Tesla. “It’s a little small actually.”
Tesla laughed, turning to Jaxson, holding her hand out toward Ever. “See?”
Jaxson blushed as he mumbled. “I don’t have small feet. You just have insanely huge ones. Freak of nature, you are.”
Tesla laughed. “Yeah, yeah.” Tesla turned back to Ever smiling. “Ya ready?”
They shrugged. “As I’ll ever be.” Ever watched as Tesla repeated the process from this morning and Ever wrapped their arm around Tesla’s neck as she pulled them onto her back.
“Well, I’ll see ya later, Jerkson,” Tesla said as she turned around making her way out of the kitchen.
“I told you to stop calling me that!” His voice cracked as he yelled and Ever couldn’t help the snicker that escaped their lips.
“Hey, so you can laugh." Tesla chuckled as she came to a stop in front of the front door, "I was worried you couldn’t. Now all I gotta do is get ya to smile.” She grabbed a newsboy cap from a hook and placed it on her head before opening it and stepping out into the early morning sun.
