Walking to the gloomy apartment, Han Fei knocks on the door. Soon a staff comes out.

“Director Jiang Yi asks me to audition, but I’ve been in some trouble…”

Before Han Fei finishes speaking, the staff enthusiastically grasps Han Fei’s arm and drags him into the apartment: “Finally you come. Director Jiang is getting angry about the poor performance of the newcomers. You should take the performance.”

“I have something very important to do tonight…”

“Director Jiang! The new actors are ready!” The staff doesn’t listen to Han Fei; he stuffs the script into his hands: “Hurry up, do not let Director Jiang wait.”

Han Fei is pushed into a room, and there are six actors of different ages standing against the wall silently.

“I don’t care if you are arranged by the investors. Since you participate in my movie, you must do as I request.” Director Jiang has a quick temper, and he used to be Han Fei’s teacher at the academy.

He emphasizes the requirements for the performance again and then turns to Han Fei: “I have heard about your suffering. There is a role in the movie you can try.”

“Well, I haven’t acted in a thriller.”

“The actor can be envisioned by the audience but not himself.” Director Jiang walks to Han Fei’s side and opens the script: “This movie is adapted from a real case – the Human Body Puzzle. The murderer has not been caught yet. You can try to realize some news reports, which may be helpful for me to put yourself in the character’s place.”

“Well…so which role do I play?”

“In the real case, the police announced seven victims, but in fact, the murderer used the body of the deceased to piece together the eighth victim. You are the second victim – Wei Youfu.” Director Jiang speaks quickly and constantly flips the script.

“Let me give you a brief description. Wei is an ordinary white-collar worker. He works overtime until late at night to come home and finds that his wife is not in the house. He sends a message to his wife, who writes back that she goes to visit her mother. But in fact, his wife has been killed, and the murderer is hiding in the bathroom to dispose of the corpse. It is the murderer who replied to the message.”

“Er, what kind of person is Wei?”

“No hurry, I've not finished yet. The most difficult part of this scene is in the second half.  Wei is half asleep when he hears the bathroom door being opened, and his wife's head is placed in the doorway. He is overwhelmed by fear, and the killer walks out of the bathroom making him a second target.”

“We can’t display the scene like disposing of corpses directly. The audiences need to feel the scene through your expression changes. Can you make it?”

“I’ll try…” Han Fei dreams to be a comedian, but now he is auditioning for a horror movie.

Director Jiang leads Han Fei as well as several cameramen to the second floor.

The room has been decorated in advance. When the curtains are drawn, it looks dark and gloomy.

“Everyone, get ready! The actor who plays the villain has not yet arrived. Key grip, you put on a mask and go to the bathroom to play a murderer.”

Five minutes later, everyone is in place, and the room falls silent instantly.

Lying in the dim bedroom, Han Fei’s body is slowly overwhelmed by darkness. He gradually closes his eyes.

The terrifying memories of last night come to mind.

Eerily, cold, bone-chilling, despair that cannot be escaped.

“Bang!”

A sudden sound comes. Han Fei opens his eyes in confusion. He scans the living room and finally stares at the bathroom.

Everything seems to be rehearsed many times.

The bathroom door is pushed open a crack.

When five fingers stretched out through the crack of the door, the fear in Han Fei's memory is triggered! His face instantly turns pale.

The wife's head rolls out through the crack of the door. She seems to be laughing, to get close to him, to question why he doesn't go with her.

The bathroom door is completely opened, the knife dripping with blood comes into Han Fei’s view, and the murderer rushes out of the dark!

The pale face hidden by the lampstand in his memory overlaps with the murderer’s face. The real death threat makes him make the most terrified expression!

That look is indescribable, and even the murderer who runs towards Han Fei stops to turn his head and glanced behind.

“Cut!” Director Jiang rushes directly over, and shouts angrily at the key grip who plays the murderer: “What are you looking back to? You are a murderer!”

The key grip takes off the mask and takes a deep breath: “Seeing Han Fei's expression, I really think that there is something behind me, so I turn my head unconsciously and take a look.”

“You are a murderer! What are you afraid of? Such a perfect shot is wasted, damn it!”

Then Director Jiang turns to Han Fei: “Han Fei, your acting skills have improved so much. You have a talent for thrillers!”

“Is my acting really that good?”

“Of course! Your act as if you experience it yourself!”
