Pokemon: Icy Wind

Snowfront City Stadium

Snowfront City Stadium

Aug 08, 2023

“Well, that ride went very smoothly!”
Sammy remarked as she got off of Pumpkin.

“That’s because we weren’t trapped in a blizzard this time.”
Tyler responded, in pure relief.

Pumpkin held Sammy's hand as she shifted back to her anthropomorphic form.
"Hey, uh, I know you guys will be busy getting your badges and everything, but...just so you know, if you ever find the time, you're more than welcome to come by Westerdon again."

She'd sheepishly laugh, rubbing behind her head.
"Y'know, in case you wanna like..I dunno..hang out..do each other's hair...cuddle maybe...all that.."

Sammy softly chuckled, pulling Pumpkin into another hug.
"I would love to."

As the trio looked around, once Luke and Pumpkin flew off, they seemed to notice that Snowfront City was a rather medium sized town, with the walking paths purposely formed to resemble a snowflake. The stadium, most notably, perched itself at the very bottom, while the Pokemon Center had stood right in its center.

As they entered the stadium, they'd of course go through the entire "Gym Mission" process they'd done in the previous stadiums. A teal, almost green, otter with a giant blue stripe going across his head welcomed them. This mission, however, was a puzzling maze settled on an ice rink.

"Alright..so...how are we going to figure this out?"
Brian asked as he looked at Tyler and Sammy.

"That's a good question. I think the entire point is to work the gears on the floor, and we'll get to slide across as we work it out."
Sammy would say upon closely observing it. Brian's Eevee would shuffle her way out of his hoodie and run onto the icy floor.

"W-Wait! Eevee!"

Tyler would stop him for a moment. "Wait. I think she's onto something. Let's follow her."

Eventually, Brian's Eevee would end up helping them solve the maze with ease, along with battling the gym trainers as they progressed. They rang the bell and soon headed up to the stadium floor. Upon entering, they'd see a corgi husky hybrid dude with green eyes, matching the color of the swirls on his ears; one of which was flopped, just like Brian's.

"Welcome, my star challengers."
He spoke as they got closer.

“Wait a minute. I know you. You’re Professor Anau’s youngest child, aren’t you?” he asked.

Brian sheepishly laughed as he rubbed his hand behind his head.
"Hahaaaa....Yep. The one and only."

“I thought so. She talks about you and your brother a lot! Anyway, let me give you all a proper introduction. My name's Zafie, and welcome to the Snowfront City Gym....or as I like to personally call it, the Subarctic Gym.”
He said, pulling out a pokeball.

"Now with that out of the way, which of you three would like to battle me first?"

Sammy stepped forward.
"It's been a while since I've gotten to go first."

"Oh? Then this shall be interesting to see."
Zafie would say as he led her to the battlefield.

As Brian and Tyler went to sit on the sideline, Sammy would stand face to face with Zafie.

The corgi titled his head.
"Nervous?"

Sammy sheepishly laughed.
"A little. Didn't think I'd ever get this far, if I'm honest."

Zafie gave her a warm smile.
"Hey, you got here with the help of both your friends and your Pokemon, and I'm very much looking forward to seeing what you're capable of..especially given the fact you've defeated your own sibling at his gym. I think you've got this."

Sammy's shy grin would turn to one that was more determined as she looked up at him. Zafie gave her a wink before heading to his end, soon sending out his Froslass.

The bunny had to think about it for a second, sending out her Zebstrika.
"Let's start this off right. Hit 'em with the Flame Charge, Zebby!"

Zafie would retaliate with his Froslass using Rain Dance afterwards.
"That should lessen the damage. Froslass, let's use Shadow Ball!"
He’d command, the attack successfully hitting Zebstrika.

Sammy had to think about what she was going to do.
“Attacking again with Flame Charge in these conditions just won’t do it..and I don’t know how well Electric moves are going to do..but I guess we can at least give this a shot. Now Zebstrika, let’s go with a Volt Switch!”

Froslass would be knocked back a little as the attack hit, along with Zebstrika returning to her Pokeball. Sammy threw another one, sending out her Mudsdale.

“Huh..sending out a Ground type in an Ice type arena. Interesting. Once Mudsdale moves, go with Ice Shard!”
Zafie muttered, keeping Froslass out.

“Think I got the perfect plan for this. Mudsdale, let’s end Froslass’ reign with Heavy Slam!”
She’d command; her Mudsdale dodged all the Ice Shards being thrown, successfully striking Froslass and causing her to faint.

Zafie sent back his Pokemon, and sent out Glaceon.
“This..might be a little difficult..”

Sammy didn’t hesitate to make the first move again. “Go for an Earthquake on Glaceon!”

“Girl’s got some quick thinking. I like it. Counter with Blizzard, Glaceon!”
Zafie would watch as the environment would lessen their visibility.

“Augh. I can’t see…what to do…?”

She’d hear Zafie command his Glaceon to use Swift amidst the Blizzard.

Letting them hit her pokemon for a bit, she’d command Mudsdale to run in the direction it was coming from, using Iron Head, letting it hit Glaceon. She’d then command him to use Stone Edge before Glaceon could attack again, fainting it effectively.

Zafie sent back Glaceon and stood there for a minute as the Blizzard rescinded.
“She definitely knows how to make use of the situation in front of her..how charming.”

Sammy sent back Mudsdale, and brought out her Primarina.
“I can’t lose Mudsdale right now, so I just need to think of how I’m gonna do this..”

Zafie sent out Amaura.
“I don’t know what this girl has planned..but I’m honestly kind of excited…”

“Now Amaura, let’s go with an Avalanche!”

“Oh god, okay. Uh..Primarina! Let’s use Waterfall to counter!”
She’d command, watching her Primarina summon the giant wave, the two moves neutralizing each other.

“Now go for a Sparkling Aria!”

Zafie watched as Amaura would become weakened already by the move successfully hitting her.
“Use Thunder Wave!”

Sammy nervously gasped as Primarina became paralyzed.
“Oh no…that’s not good. Try and shake it off!!”

Zafie saw an opening.
“Go with a Freeze-Dry!”

Primarina would stand there unable to shake it off, but amidst the attack, she was still standing, resiliently.

“Use Body Slam to end this!”

“Quick Primarina, use Iron Tail!”
Sammy shouted out, her pokemon following through just before Amaura lands the attack, sending her flying backwards and fainting because of it.

Zafie sent back his third Pokemon.
“Heh heh. Ya know, you are one step closer to victory, but I doubt you’ll be able to defeat my last Pokemon. Think you can do it?”

He’d soon send out Walrein.

Sammy sent Primarina back.
“Thanks Pri, I owe ya. Now take a good rest.”

She’d look at the ball she had in her other hand, sending out Mudsdale once again.
“We can do this. I got the perfect plan.”

“Hmm. I figured she’d send out Mudsdale again, although now for her that’s quite risky knowing he’s taken so much damage already…I wonder what she’s going to do…”
Zafie would say in his thoughts.

“Eh, let’s just cut straight to the chase here.”
He’d pull up his sleeve, and activate his Z-Ring.

“The quiet, falling snow from the skies…Crystals of water, constantly shimmering…Blanketing the world with our frosty Z-Power! Together with our fiery strength, let’s rise up into the night sky once again!”
He spoke, raising his arm into the air and then pointing it at Walrein.

“Use Subzero Slammer!”

Sammy didn’t even hesitate in the slightest as she activated her Z Move. She knew it was clearly very risky, but she had a plan B in case it failed.
“Guess we’re doin it too. Let’s go, Mudsdale!”

“Great roots winding around our bodies, they assist us! Grant us your awe-inspiring power! Use Tectonic Rage!”

The rumble of the Tectonic Rage would cause Walrein’s Subzero Slammer to falter and just narrowly miss a direct hit on Mudsdale. Mudsdale still took some amount of damage but as soon as the ice fizzled away, Sammy immediately went for it.

“Now rush in and use Stone Edge while Walrein’s down for the count!”

As a result, Mudsdale would send him flying upwards into the air before falling back down to the ground, knocking him out in that instant.

Zafie stood there for a minute trying to process what just happened.
“What the..??”

They’d overhear the announcer guy, who was completely stunned by what just became of this battle.
“All 4 of Gym Leader Zafie’s pokemon are unable to battle! Which means..Challenger Sammy is the winner!”

Sammy breathed a sigh of relief as she knew her battle was over and sent Mudsdale back to his ball, smiling a bit as she heard Brian and Tyler’s familiar voices cheer from the sidelines.

Zafie smiled as he approached her, shaking her hand.

“Heh. I’ll admit, you actually put up a good fight. Here’s the obligatory badge that’ll signify your victory here! Your brother’s gonna be so proud once he hears ya beat me.”
He gave her the Frozen Bell Badge.

“Thanks so much, Zafie…that really means a lot.”
