Aug 08, 2023

And so, another 2 years passed by.
"Luis, time to eat!"
Calling me from my room, my mother shouted.
So, 2 years had already passed since I started practicing magic.
By now, I already had a decent mana pool and extreme control under Elemental Assimilation.
Though I always practiced magic every day without breaks, my parents never knew I was practicing mana arts.
It's because I never wanted them to know I have talent in it.
And since it's a dangerous practice that might cause the mage to lose consciousness if overexerted.
I just hid the truth from my parents.
Until a certain morning that is.
I was still half asleep, when my father called me out, by this time I was already studying intermediate spells, and with only a simple thought with Elemental Assimilation, I could conjure multiple beginner spells.
"Luis, can you try and light up the furnace I'm quite in a situation where I can't move"
My father requested; I could see his figure above the ceiling while talking.
What an idiot, requesting his 4-year-old son to handle fire in a house made of wood.
Fine let's just light it, it's not like I can't do it.
"Ok"
Replying to my father.
*Yawn*
Where is the match anyway? I swear it was here when Mother was cooking.
"Ah!"
"Let's just light it with a fire spell, I don't have the energy to find something so little early in the morning."
My mana capacity was already decent at this point, so I had no worries about fainting in front of my parents.
Feeling the mana from within.
*Crackle*
"Huh?"
"…"
"Hi, Mother welcome back"
I welcomed her with a sweet smile.
She was at the door standing with a shocked expression, I wondered why she has that expression.
Well, maybe she's just surprised by my charisma.
So, focusing on the task at hand, I lit the furnace with a small ball of fire floating around my hand.
It didn't come to me until a clang drowned the surroundings.
A couple of utensils fell off the floor getting my father's attention.
"Uhhh… Honey? Are you ok?"
My father asked, his head sticking out from a hole in the ceiling.
"LUIS!"
"Eh?"
I don't know why but suddenly my mother yelled my name, left confused, and my mother stepped forward closing our distance.
"How did you do that?"
Eh? How did I do what?
Her eyes were sharp, staring at the depths of my soul, she followed by pointing her hands towards the furnace.
"That! How did you light that?"
"Eh? I light it with magi- "
Oh, shit!
That moment I realized what I just did; it was already too late.
"A-ah-ahh"
I tried to explain myself but only made incomprehensible words.
Curse this weak little mind for panicking.
After staring, she crouched down in front of me and grabbed my waist, letting out a simple smile as she ogled at me.
Damn, she's scary.
She was smiling, but at the same time, she wasn't.
I knew in this situation; I shouldn't avert my gaze.
She saw that spell, right?
Yeah, looks like she saw what I did.
*Sigh*
"You lit up that furnace with magic right?"
Accepting this defeat, I nodded.
I was considering lying but that might decrease my trustworthiness, so instead, I nodded and admitted what I did.
She practically saw everything so I just admitted it.
Ah, what a mess.
"Eh? What's happening here"
My father jumped down, trying to know what was happening.
Slowly lifting me up, my mother turned to face mother with that blank smiling expression earlier.
Eh?
"Kyaaaaaaaaah! Did you see that honey? Luis can cast magic!"
"Really?!"
The two were practically overjoyed at the fact that I can do magic at this young age.
The two grabbed each other's hand and jumped around with excitement.
Wow, what an energetic parent.
"Doesn't this mean our child is a genius?"
"Let's send him to a prestigious Academy, he'll practically be a top student there"
The two were exuberant, and were already deciding my future.
*Sigh*
And here I am worried of the fact that I was caught using magic, I guess it was alright after all.
Perhaps having a child this age using magic really is rare, besides the fact that I learned myself, I guess so.
Seeing my parent's overjoyed made my heart flutter, it was the right time for them to know I can use magic, not too young, not too old.
Just right for me to be considered a talent.
"Hey honey, let's teach Luis the basics and send him to the academy of Arboria when he grows up"
"Yes, yes, we should after all he's a rare talent"
And so, the start of my stone-set life.
Well, it might also be beneficial for me so I just accepted it.
It's good that I can go into an academy made for talented kids.
And so, my parents started teaching me basics and information about mages, though almost all of it was something I already know.
The lessons were divided into two categories since they didn't know where I was categorized.
Since my mother was a conjurer, her lessons were composed of basic elemental spells, that being spells that can protect and attack.
Then there are my father's lessons, which were composed of basic swordsmanship training and basic mana enhancement.
Hiding the fact that I can do Elemental Assimilation, I used the basic chanting methods and completely trashed the idea of using formulas as I can't keep my head calculating certain spells.
During my mother's lesson*
"Well, let's start from knowing what spells are"
I knew the answer but kept quiet as I needed to hide the fact that I already knew certain things.
"Any idea?"
Having to stay quiet, I swayed my head left and right as I listened to my mother's explanation.
"Well, figures"
"Well, spells are the triggered effects of a certain person to his/her surrounding, it can be by formula method or chanting method, whilst its rare there are also the ones that can do spells without the two methods, basically Silent Activation."
Huh?
Silent Activation?
Wasn't it Elemental Assimilation?
I swear it was called Elemental Assimilation in the book, why is it called Silent activation? Was it changed a long time ago?
Hmmm…I'm confused.
I should ask just to be safe.
"Uhmm…"
"Hmmm… What?"
"What's Elemental Assimilation?"
I hope I'm not digging my own grave.
"Elemental Assimilation?"
"What's that?"
"A spell?"
*Sigh*
I knew it.
Elemental Assimilation doesn't exist.
No, more like the term elemental assimilation doesn't exist.
I hovered my eyes across my mother's face, a hint of confusion evident in her expression from my remark.
I clearly remembered the words I had read from the contents of the book, but somehow the term Elemental Assimilation doesn't exist.
Perhaps I'm only imagining things?
No, no!
It was clear as daylight, it was written in the guidebook.
"Guidebook"
I slowly mumbled, my thoughts wandered off as my mother continued on her lecture, I was perplexed on how I came to know the word Elemental Assimilation.
It was already two years when I stumbled upon that word. Following my vague reasoning, I thought it was a term that had existed for highly skilled mages, but somehow it turned out that the term simply didn't exist.
So why?
My mind was completely filled with thoughts as to why, but I simply shrugged it off.
Whether it be Elemental Assimilation or Silent Activation it was practically the same.
"So, Luis are you listening?"
Pulling myself back to reality, my mother's words rang in my ears.
Ah right, I was in the middle of a lecture.
Caught my self-lacking, I awkwardly let out a grin while touching my temples.
"You might be a rare talent, but if you don't nurture your gift, you might as well just be a nobody."
My mother commented, closing the opened books and cleaning the table.
I understand where she's coming from, it was the same with, If you never tasted a bad apple, you would not appreciate a good apple or If you were never sad, you would not know how it feels to be happy.
It was all that.
