Until a huge figure emerged behind One and Two o’clock. It’s deep white eyes wrapped in a bat silhouette, something that penetrated Barbara's soul, and filled her fear and confusion with surprise and hope.
- That was all I needed to hear – Batman's chilling voice sounded just before all the lights in the Clock Tower went out.
A few moments after shots were fired in the darkness and for the Clock King's widespread shouting, ordering to catch them, footsteps began to resonate throughout the Tower's structure. Whatever Batman had done with One and o’clock, the sounds weren't pretty at all, the next thing Barbara saw was Batman's eyes in front of hers, and his hand grabbing her left arm.
- Come.
Soon, she began to run alongside Batman, who guided her through the darkness as the lights came on again. Behind one of the large gears, they remained low in a blind spot that Barbara hadn't identified before, with Batman scattering several, of what she concluded to be, smoke bombs around the structure to further camouflage them from the forces of the hours.
- Batman, you came! – Batgirl tried to whisper, but the excitement in her voice exceeded her.
- You should have listened to me, girl, now quiet, and listen to me well – She nodded, and continued – After all, you were right, after the harbor incident, and particularly after your remarkable involvement, I investigated further, and Tockman's story came to my attention. I need to save Gotham, and I'll do everything I can to do that, but that would be at the cost of the Clock King's escape. I'll have fifteen minutes to reach the three points and defuse the bombs, but now... Gotham needs you.
- It needs me...?
- We can't let Tockman run away to perfect his plan and successfully complete it in the future... Take, you're going to need this – He reached into what Barbara now identified to be a large gleaming black cloak and gave her a harpoon gun – I know you already have enough accoutrements to deal with them, but with that, you'll be able to move through the shadows with greater success. Remember: You are a creature of the night, they fear what they cannot see, but you are still vulnerable, act in the shadows, I will make sure to get rid of the firearms, the rest is up to you. Did you understand?
- ... Y-yes Batman.
And then, Batman grabbed her, and she sank into his cloak, being enveloped by the huge bat figure just as she had being swallowed by the bat colony, and for a brief moment in time, she felt liberated, she really felt like herself. He reached for another harpoon on his now remarkable belt, and pinning it to the ceiling of the structure, the two of them plunged into the center of the platform where the Clock King stood. Some of the hours were still there, including Midnight, but they didn't have time to react as Batman launched countless Batarangs, hitting the loaded firearms, slicing them all in half with enormous precision.
So, Batman threw Batgirl over Five O’Clock, she hit a flying kick in the terrorist's face, and rolled into the nearest shadows, from where she watched the bat man shoot his harpoon into Nine O’Clock's legs, and with extreme force, swing him like a noose toward Four O’Clock. The remaining hours set off on top of the Dark Knight, but with a quick flick of his legs, he knocked down all but Midnight, with whom he had a brief exchange of punches until he threw her away, only to take traction, shoot at her, grab her, and cross the clock face structure, crashing all the numbers and hands in and out of the Tower in a cacophony of sound shards of glass.
When the hero of Gotham and the cyborg clock disappeared into the shadows of the streets, Batgirl sprang into action, coming out of the shadows, she flew into the neck of Ten O’Clock, who thrashed hard, trying to get rid of the girl's grip until she redirected all her weight to the head of the criminal, who lost his balance enough for Batgirl to throw him all to the ground, knocking down the criminal.
- Barbara! Are you okay?! – Dick sounded like he was on the edge on the other end of the line.
- Yes, I am, Oracle! I'm going after the Clock King, Batman will take care of the bombs, well, at least I hope he can.
- Hello, sweetheart! – Eleven O'Clock voice sounded from behind Barbara, who turned to see her – Got lost on the way to the nerd convention? What costume is that? Are you thinking you’re Batman?!
- No – She walked among the falling gears of the clock that still crumbled around them, confident and fearless – I'm Batgirl!
Soon, Batgirl used her size to her advantage, and deftly dodging Eleven O'Clock's attacks, she was precise with her arms and legs, hitting vulnerable areas of the criminal's body, who soon tried to launch herself with her whole body on top of the hero, who in one swift movement, grabbed the right arm of the enemy and directed her head with to her knee. The sound of the nose breaking just wasn't followed by a scream of pain because the criminal fainted soon after.
Looking around, she realized that the rest of the hours, and Clock King himself, had escaped amid the confusion. Knowing that she wouldn’t catch up to them through the stairs, Batgirl walked towards the opening that was once the clock of the Tower, and aimed her grappling hook at one of the gargoyles. It took a shot or two, but eventually she got it right, and throwed herself into the air without a second thought, going down to the ground, and entering through the same door she had broken down earlier. There, she found Temple and the rest of the gang boarding the ClockMobile, they noticed her presence. The rest of the hours progressed as Tockman hurriedly stuffed the bags they carried into the car.
Batgirl quickly looked around her as they surrounded them, ending her gaze on the ceiling, where only a faint incandescent lamp illuminated the room. She pointed the grappling hook at it and crashed the bulb, immersing the room in a darkness she was used to. None of the other hours saw her acrobatic movements as she made wide leaps between them, knocking them down and disabling them with a strong knee to the face. Soon, the lights from the outside poles illuminated the room as the Clock King opened the doors to leave with the car, and the situation was not at all good for him: All the hours were down, and only Batgirl was standing, waiting between the door and the car.
- I should have made sure you died the first time you invaded my base of operations – He raised his cane, brandishing it like a sword – This ends this very minute. Temp Tock.
Barbara took a deep breath and closed her eyes as she reached for her batarang in her pocket one last time. When she opened his eyes, everything was blurry, she couldn't focus on anything... Besides Clock King, a big clear target right in front of her. The blade of the weapon sank into her wound in her left hand again, and the two ran against each other. Using the Batarang as a combat knife, Gordon and Tockman crossed their blades in mid-air at a speed she couldn't quite keep up with, at that moment they were both just instinct and fury as the sparks of the metal bat and pointer flew from the clash of the guns. The Clock King's Hand was bigger and heavier, and Batgirl's deflections were too tiring for her, which didn't give her the strength to fight back.
Soon, she remembered her karate lessons, made her feet light, and turned her body into a lever. In the enemy's next attack, the force he used was reflected through the Batarang, and in a nimble movement of Barbara, he fell to the ground, where his cane stuck, causing Clock King to lose his balance, and fall to the ground with his arms outstretched, twisting both of his shoulders in the process. Calmly, Barbara pulled out of her pocket the handcuffs she had stolen from her father at the police station and began handcuffing Temple Tockman on the handle of his car.
- It's over, Tockman – She said, only to hear heavy footsteps approaching her.
She turned just in time to see who had given her the powerful blow that threw her hard against the van on the other side of the garage. Midnight was still conscious, her suit wears all torn and dirty with dirt and asphalt. Her blood, dripping from her wounds, stained the floor, and the gears of her mechanical arm were on display. Barbara was dizzy, unable to compose herself as Midnight slowly approached, the only thing clear was her footsteps getting closer and closer. Soon, the criminal grabbed Batgirl by the neck, and lifted her over her head as the hero stretched out her arms, desperate to reach for something to break free.
- Enough is enough, child. I will take your life for involving Batman and ending my King's plans. There's no hero who can save you now, it's time for retribution...!
Barbara didn't know what else to think, her strength was going away as her vision grew more and more blurred. Then she stopped thrashing, reaching for her Batarang one last time. Slowly, she raised her hands, Midnight was too engrossed in killing her until she noticed the Batarang being thrust all the way through the gears of the mechanical arm too late. The weapon was completely shattered in the process, just as Midnight's arm, which began to writhe and fail, several electric sparks flew into the air as Barbara freed herself from the grip. Gordon managed to get far enough away from the situation before the arm combusted and exploded, causing Midnight to finally lose consciousness.
"Alive" thought Barbara, "I'm alive!" She walked outside, seeing all the damage done, a buzz in the neighborhood had already begun, and several Lights in the old neighborhood houses lit up with curiosity and fear of what was happening. The hero crawled to a near alley, trying to remember which was the nearest entrance to the catacombs, until, at the stroke of midnight, something caught the attention of everyone in Gotham: A loud explosion occurred in the center of the city, the tremor reached even the distant Old Gotham, and Batgirl feared the worst.
