The City Hall, the Supreme Court and the Stock Market were intact by the end of that week. What needed repairs was Gotham Stadium, completely devastated by the power of not one, not two, but three C4 bombs. There were no deaths, Batman made sure of that, said the team of security guards who claim to have seen the silent protector as he escorted them out. Apparently, the hitherto missing Temple Tockman organized the terrorist attack, and all the evidence was in the Clock Tower, which was the target of some kind of "gang war," was what the police said at least. He was being taken to a maximum-security prison, Belle Reve, on the other side of the country by federal security chief Amanda Waller. That's good, everyone who falls into her hand never comes back, apparently.
Barbara missed karate classes the rest of the week out of "indisposition," at least that's what she attested, having to disguise the various bruises she suffered the day before. She and Dick met in the cave one last time before the weekend, which they would spend with their parents, both were equally relieved and frightened by the event of the last days. Sitting next to each other, they talked:
- So... We did it – Dick began.
- We did.
- What now? Look at everything we've done.
- It's amazing, isn't it?
- Although I find it extremely dangerous... Yes. We were meant to be an amazing duo, you know.
-Yes...
- Maybe "A Dynamic Duo", huh? – Dick gestured through the air smiling, and Barbara laughed.
- What a bad title.
- Don't be so critical, hm... That's it then?
- What?
- The End, is that it, is that the end?
-No! – Grayson looked disappointed, but knew he had no way to argue with her at the time – Dick, we saved Gotham! Millions of people, alive, because of us. We need to keep going, we can make a difference!
- ... Just promise me one thing. Never do it alone. Batman's help was essential.
- Yours too – They both turned blushed – Okay, I promise.
Soon, something on Barbara’s Computer caught the duo's attention. Dick approached curiously as she opened the laptop to check the source of the lights and sounds. And there, on the screen in front of them, the obscured figure of Batman stood, watching them. They were both in shock and complete silence as their idol spoke to them:
- Barbara Gordon II and Richard John Grayson. Better known as Batgirl and Oracle, respectively. I'll say this just once to you: You're both very young, kids. You have done a great service to Gotham, a service that has not gone unnoticed by me, so I will give you the power to choose to end these operations now. Are we clear? – Their silence was confirmation enough for him – Batman out.
The duo watched as Batman disappeared from the screen, and Barbara slowly turned off her laptop, the silence was deafening, until Dick mustered up the courage to break it.
- You're not going to stop anyway, are you?
- Of course not! I see that as a challenge. Batman will have to accept that he has spawned a new kind of hero. Me.
- You know that's a very bad idea.
-Yes... But that's what defines me – She said confidently, picking up her refurbished uniform from inside a briefcase – With people like you by my side, one thing is fact, Dick.
