Tears dripped on the diner table. Emanuel looked at the attorney across the table from him.
“I can’t take this, Robin,” Emanuel said to the attorney. “Why did this happen?”
Robin remained solid as his friend endured grief.
“We were supposed to spend the rest of our lives together,” Emanuel continued. “Some heartless person came and killed my sweet Samantha.”
“I’ll do everything in my power to bring the murderer to justice,” Robin responded.
“They don’t have any leads,” Emanuel said.
A young man with frizzy hair approached them. He has a wicked smile and place a laptop on the table.
“Who are you?” Robin asked.
“Hush,” the man said. “Look at the video that is playing.”
Emanuel and Robin watched the screen. Their eyes widened.
Emanuel’s wife, Samantha was crying and resisting a hooded man. “Stop!” she cried. “Please! Have mercy on me!”
The hooded man slapped her and told her to shut up. He punched and beat her until she stopped and then with a struggle, he was able to tie one hand to the bed.
Samantha sobbed. She called out to her husband.
The hooded man walked up to the camera and smiled. It was the guy with the frizzy hair.
“You did this!” Emanuel shouted.
Some of the other people in the diner looked to see what the commotion was.
The frizzy haired guy picked up the computer and slowly started backing towards the exit with a malicious smile. “I will be destroying this laptop. You should know, she wouldn’t let me have my way. She fought until the very end.”
Emanuel rushed out of his seat and dashed for the man. The chase lasted for several minutes, but the man got away.
Months go by. Within that time, the man was apprehended. Charges were filed against him. The court day arrived, but the evidence against him was weak. And he was unfortunately let go.
“He did that so that he would be charged and tried,” Robin said sometime after the trial. “Because of the lack of evidence, he was let go. And because of our laws, you can’t be tried for the same crime twice.”
It was on a sunny day in a suburban neighborhood.
A man was unpacking a suitcase in his new house. For the last few weeks, he had been experiencing some bad luck. Someone had been keying his car. His outside trash was always being dumped into his yard. A rock was thrown at his window.
His cell phone began to ring.
“Hello,” he answered.
“Morales,” responded a voice.
“Who is this?” Morale asked.
“It’s because of men like you that we know evil exists,” Emanuel said. “There is such a thing as good and evil, it is not relative.”
“What do you want?” Morales asked. “Are you the one who has been bothering me?”
“I’m on my way to end you,” Emanuel said.
“Look, I don’t want any problems,” Morales replied. “I just want to live a peaceful life now. I had my fun.”
“It doesn’t matter,”
“Please. I have money, so much money. I can give it to you.”
“I don’t want your money. You will pay for what you did.”
“Please! What can I do to stop you?!”
