My head was pounding when I woke up the next morning, we drank too much. Susan smuggled some bottles of alcoholic wine from the party last night, and we drank and chatted till almost nine. I picked up my phone from the small table right by bed, there was a text from Kelvin. It read, Susan is missing.... I laid back in bed, my head was still pounding, and I began to feel a bit dizzy. My phone started rigging, it was Kelvin, I picked it up. “Susan is missing!” Kelvin yelled from the phone, I removed the phone from my ear, placed it on the bed and turned the loudspeaker on. “Andrew!” Kelvin yelled again. “How come?” I replied him in a very low tone.
“I went to return something to her yesterday, I didn’t find her. She is still not back till now”
“Don’t go playing a prank on me this early morning bro...”
“Andrew, I am not joking.”
“Did you call her?”
“Her phone is here, Andrew, Susan is in trouble.”
“I am coming.”
I washed my face and headed for Susan's place. Susan's parents died two years ago, she has been living alone and catering for herself all this while.
“We have to find her” was the first thing Kelvin said to me the moment I stepped foot into her apartment. The room was well kept, everything was in order, nothing seemed out of place.
“How did you get in?” I asked
“The door was wide open when I arrived” Kelvin said
“Wide open?”
“Susan never leaves her door open.”
I thought the same, Susan always locked her door the moment she steps out and into her apartment. “You said her phone was here” I said. “Yeah, I found it under the bed” Kelvin replied. “Under the bed?” Why would Susan leave her phone under the bed yesterday? I sat down on the bed to ponder over that question.
“What do you think?” Kelvin asked
“Susan got home last night, that explains the phone. The only thing I am trying to figure out is why she left her door open, and why she hid her phone under the bed.”
“What if she was kidnapped?”
That was the easiest and best explanation to this, but I didn’t want to jump into any conclusion yet.
“There are only two ways for Susan to be kidnapped from here last night. The first is she left her apartment to go buy something last night, and the kidnapper nabbed her.The second is that the kidnapper, broke into this house last night, and kidnapped her. But the first is not possible because Susan’s door is open, and Susan never leaves her door open. The second too is not possible because there are no damages on the door.”
“What if she let the kidnapper in?”
Kelvin had a point but Susan wasn’t the type to make mistakes, she never opens the door unless she is very sure of who was at the door. “She was very drunk, so she could have made a mistake.” Kelvin added. “Her phone was hidden under the bed, does it sound like something a drunk person would do?” I knew Susan well, she doesn’t make mistakes. But one thing was already certain to me, Susan opened her door last night and it wasn’t by mistake. The person she let in was someone she knew, someone close.
