“Let’s go to the police. If someone entered this room last night. Then their fingerprints has to be somewhere here. This case will be like a walk in the park for them” I said.
“Years ago, my mom got missing just like this. We reported it to the police, after two weeks of time wastage and procrastination, do you remember what they found?”
Kelvin's face was bright red as he said those words out loud, of course I remember what the police found. The police found his mother, dead, in an alley. The police will waste time, Kelvin was right, and any minute that passes means more danger for Susan.
“Kelvin there is someone I suspect”
“Who?”
“Susan’s uncle, the man has been stalking Susan for a while now”
“What?! Why didn’t you tell me this earlier!”
“She told me not to say anything to you”
“And you complied! You did nothing! Now look what happened!!”
Kelvin stood to his feet, his eyes was blood shot. He then clenched his fist and punched it on the wall five times. His knuckles was messed up from that. “I am disappointed in you, Andrew” Kelvin spoke in a low tone this time. I could feel the steam of anger coming from him. I’ve never seen him that angry before. “I know where we can find him” I already did some background check on the man in the past, the name of my suspect was Aaron, Susan’s uncle. “Where do we find him?!” Kevin said, “He works at a restaurant as a waiter, I’ll lead the way”. On the way to the restaurant, Kelvin said that he wanted to get something from his house. We stopped by his house, he entered, and came right out minutes later. On our way to the restaurant, Kelvin didn’t utter any word on the way, neither did I.
I pushed the restaurant door open, Kelvin walked in right after I did. Aaron was by a table serving two customers, a man and a woman, he had a tray with tumblers sitting on it. He wore this rumpled white shirt, with an oversized trouser. “That is the man” I said while pointing at Aaron. I walked towards Aaron, hands in pocket with my thumbs sticking out. “We have some questions for you” I said with a very chill tone of voice. Aaron turned his head to me upon hearing my words “Who are you?” he said. That moment I caught a glimpse of a hand picking up a bottle from the table, the hand swung shattering the bottle on Aaron's head. Blood spurted out of his skull, splattering all over my face. The bottle pieces scattered all over the floor, Aaron bent over with his hand holding his head. He let out a loud groan, standing right by me was Kelvin clenching the other half of the bottle. All the veins in his bottle was showing, his body red, his breath was like that of someone that ran a thousand miles.“Call the police!!” the man Aaron was serving yelled. “What did I do to you?!” Aaron yelled, his palm covered in blood. Kelvin dashed to Aaron, grabbed him by the waist and threw him to the ground. Kelvin followed up by sitting on Aaron and throwing series of punches to the man, each landing right on Aaron’s face.
“Do you want to kill him?!” A old woman yelled from behind. I grabbed Kelvin from his back with my arms wrapped around his chest, then I pulled him off from Aaron. Kelvin’s fists was covered in blood, his breathing was slowly getting back to normal. Aaron’s teeth was all over the floor, his blood on everything around him. This scenery made me ask myself the question I have been avoiding all day, What if am wrong? What if it was just a stupid suspicion and Aaron has no hand in this? Inside me, panic started creeping in. The thoughts of just assaulting an innocent man. Kelvin shook my arms off him, and stood to his feet. “Its the boy in green!” A man yelled pointing at Kelvin. Two police officers walked into the restaurant and started walking towards us. Kelvin knelt down, dropped something right behind me, then he lay on the ground with his arms behind his back. The police officers cuffed him and dragged him out of the restaurant, a few minutes later, paramedics arrived. I walked out of the restaurant right when they arrived, also holding on to the object Kelvin left behind me earlier. It was wrapped in black polythene bag, if Kelvin didn’t want the police to see it then it opening it in the street will be a big mistake.
I got to the alley, it was just me and the darkness now. I opened up the bag and took out, the object, it was still wrapped with cloth. I unwrapped the cloth revealing the gun inside it, a revolver. My heart skipped a beat, a gun, what exactly did Kelvin have in mind? I sat down on the bare floor, my shoulders dropped. What sort of problem have I created for myself and everyone else? That question kept floating all around my head. I walked to Susan’s house, on the way I felt the darkness pressing in on me, it was heavy. I opened her door, the apartment was still empty, there was still no sign of her. I fell to my knees and started screaming on top of my voice. I felt like crying, but no drop of tear fell from my eyes. I got up, walked out of the apartment, locked it and headed for home. “Hey kiddo,” my dad called out as I entered our sitting room. He sat on the couch with a beer in his hand. When was the last time he called me kiddo? No matter how hard I tried to recall I still couldn’t remember. My dad sounded drowsy when he was saying that, his eyes was half shut. He then pointed his finger at me and added, “Pay attention to the things unseen,” my dad sipped on the bottle of the beer after saying that. “Okay sir,” I replied, what he said made no sense to me. Still I’ve never seen my father drunk before, was he giving me advice or warning me, maybe he was just drunk.
