I was already in Susan’s place, it was six in the morning. The apartment was still empty, no sign of Susan. I walked into her room and started searching for something, a clue, if Susan left her phone under the bed. There has to be something else, anything queer was okay with me. I lifted the bed up to look under, the only thing lying there was as pen with a broken tip and her flip flops. I lowered the bed, there was nothing of use there. The mirror on the wall had some strange markings on it, but still that was not enough to give me any lead on Susan’s location. A knock on the door disrupted my train of thoughts, I walked towards the door, then halted midway. ‘What if the person knocking is the person that brought harm to Susan?’ This question stopped me on my tracks. The door was already open, so why was the person knocking? Is the person trying to lure out anyone inside the room first, why? Is it to harm the person here too? So many questions, there was only one way to get the answers I need. I ran into Susan’s room and hid by the door, so as to get a clear view of the person as he or she walks in. Sweat trickled down my neck as the door open, I swallowed air to try to reduce the tremor I was feeling. A man walked in slowly as if he was counting each step he took, his face was covered with a face mask and he wore a black suit. I took just one glance at the man and then tip toed to under the bed. The door to the room I was in opened, the man walked in, the only thing i could see was his two black shoe from under the bed. The man sat on the bed, “Andrew I know you are there,” the man said, I recognized that voice, it was my dad's! “Don’t come out, stay there!” my dad ordered. I had no plan of coming out even though I had so much questions to ask, I was to scared to even move a limb.
“This is the last time we will be talking to each other like this Andrew, I....... I love you so much my son. But all the events that is going to happen to you is for a greater good, and I wish you the best.”
“Dad.. where is Susan?”
“That puzzle, you have to solve it yourself,”
“Is Susan okay? What happened to her?”
“All I can say to you is that Susan is okay for now, hurry!”
“Where is she?!!”
I crawled out from under the bed, to my surprise my dad was gone, it was as if he was never here. I ran into the sitting room, there was no sign of him. The door was shut. ‘Dad!’ I yelled, there was no reply. After a while I started to doubt the fact that he was even here, it might have been my brain playing tricks with me. If he was really here, then that meant that he has a clue of where Susan is. Worse, my father might be the person that kidnapped Susan, thinking of this nauseated me.
Some hours passed, I still couldn’t decided on what my next course of action should be. All I could think of was my dad and his words. The door to the sitting room opened, Kelvin walked in.
“Hey,” Kelvin greeted.
“Hey,” I replied
“When did you get here?”
“Six thirty, the police.... wha.. how did you get out?”
“My dad got me out, it was easy and it was also thanks to your dad, he made everything fast.”
“My dad? How come.”
“He just appeared out of nowhere, then talked with the officers.”
“How did you know I was here?”
“Umm.. I didn’t know you were here, I just arrived and saw you.”
“When you were coming to this apartment, did you see my dad on the way?”
“No, your dad is still at the police station..”
“What?”
“Is there any problem?”
“No.. it’s nothing, I have to go home right now. There’s something I have to check.”
“Have you gotten any leads on Susan?”
“No.”
On my way to the door, Kelvin uttered something that sounded so familiar. Something I’ve heard before from somewhere, “Say that again Kelvin, I didn’t hear what you said clearly" I said. “What you can see does not pose any threat to you,” Kelvin said “Andrew have you forgotten that Susan is missing? We have to find her! Today is the second day.” I looked at Kelvin trying to recall where I heard that first sentence, last night! My dad said those exact words to me last night!
“Kelvin, where did you hear those words?”
“Your dad said that to me this morning, why does that matter.. Andrew we have to find Susan for God’s sake!”
‘What you can see does not pose any threat to you’ for some reason, that moment, I remembered the night of my birthday party, the cardboard boxes, Alexander and the writing on the piece of paper. Your parents are killers. “Susan!” her name slipped right out of my mouth. Kelvin glanced at me with a bit of frown on his face. “Kelvin I have a clue now,” I said. “Let’s go then,” Kelvin replied. I walked into Susan's room, to the drawer in there. I opened it and took out a gun, Kelvin's gun then I handed it to Kelvin. “I don’t know why you had this, but right now, we need it more than ever.” I said. “Where are we going to?” Kelvin asked. “You’ll know once we get there.”
