I walked into my family house, the gate was open and there was no cars in the parking lot. Kelvin was right behind me, “What are we doing here?” Kelvin asked. I had a big suspicion on my own father, but I couldn’t tell Kelvin that, I had to make sure first. “I think Susan might be here,” I replied him. “What?! Are you serious? Where?!”
“Keep your voice down”
It was deep in the afternoon, the sun blazed from the sky. The two of us stood in front of the small store by my house. The door was unlocked, I pushed the door open. Even with all the illumination the sun was giving, the inside of the store was dark. “Susan!” I yelled as I walked in. “You think Susan is here?!” Kelvin exclaimed as he ran into the store calling out for Susan. All we heard was the loud echo of our own voices. Something about those echoes bothered me so I took out my phone from my pocket and turned on the flashlight. To my surprise, the cardboard boxes were gone, the store was empty. “Susan is not here..” Kelvin said, he sounded disappointed. “Kelvin... I am really scared right now. I don’t understand this, how did all this boxes here disappear. Who removed them, why did the person remove them now?” I said, for some reason my heartbeat rate increased. Thump, thump, thump.
“Andrew, what made you think that Susan could be here.” Kelvin asked.
“ I... I.. it was just a hunch” I replied.
“Andrew! Susan is missing and we are wasting our time on a... hunch?”
“Kelvin, we have no leads at all. And you are saying that I shouldn’t follow a hunch?”
“Andrew, I’ll ask you again.. what made you suspect this place. I don’t think it was just a hunch.”
“Let’s get out of here.”
Kelvin and I got back to Susan’s apartment, Kelvin had his eye on me throughout the whole journey. It seemed as if he was suspicious of me. “Andrew there is something you are not telling me, what is that?” Kelvin asked. I glanced at Kelvin then diverted my eyes to something else, there was no way I was going to tell him of my suspicions on my own father. Added with the sudden mysterious disappearance of those cardboard boxes, which is weird because their was no way they cleaned out the store without my knowledge unless it was intentionally hidden from me.
“Tell me Andrew, stop keeping all this important secrets from me. This is exactly why we are in this situation, if you told me that Susan was being stalked by her Uncle”
“Wait!”
Susan’s uncle, Aaron had a wound on his wrist. The wound looked as if it was caused by something pointed. I ran into Susan’s room and took out that pen from under the bed, the tip was broken.
“Andrew.. that pen, when I came to this house looking for Susan. A pink diary was lying on the bed.”
“Why didn’t you tell me this?!”
“It skipped my mind, and I didn’t think it was important.”
“Where is the diary, did you look into it? What was the last thing she wrote?”
“No... no.. I.. I.. I di.. didn’t... ll.. look aa.. at d... d.. the diary" Kelvin stammered.
“Where is the diary?”
“Its in the drawer.”
I slid open the drawer, lying there was the diary, the same pink diary I bought Susan two years ago. It still looked new, I opened it, the book was almost full. I turned to the last page Susan wrote on, ‘Andrew finished at the last position again, I am sad that no matter what I say to him he won’t try to sit up. I know that if Andrew becomes serious, nobody in our school can challenge him. Today is his birthday, I wrote him a love letter, and wrapped it in a box. It’s kind of cheesy, I know, but I can’t think of any other way to tell Andrew that I have feelings for him. Why are boys so stupid? How come he has not noticed anything after all this years? I kept dropping hints, but he fails to pick up on any of that. And if he fails to pick up on the letter, then I’ll have to tell him that I love him blatantly. I don’t think I’ll have the courage to do that though, but I’ll try, it’s almost time for the party I don’t want to be late.
The party was a bit interesting, we drank and drank and drank. It’s a surprise that I am not drunk, I feel a bit tipsy though. I didn’t get to tell Andrew anything because Kelvin was always with us, I do hope he reads the letter. I believe’ Susan didn’t finish what she was writing, something interrupted her. I rubbed the ink from the pen on my finger, then I smeared it on the diary. The ink on my finger was identical to the ink Susan wrote with on the diary.
“The night Susan was kidnapped, she was writing something on that diary with this pen in my hand. That night she was holding this pen when the kidnapper attacked her, she stabbed the kidnapper on the wrist with the pen. The tip of the pen broke when Susan stabbed the kidnapper, she could have gone for the kidnapper’s eyes. But Susan isn’t the kind of person that would blind another person. The kidnapper then overpowered her she dropped the pen on the ground and kicked the pen under the bed. Her phone must have been on the ground too, so she kicked her phone under the bed. Now I know who the kidnapper is, let’s go and bring Susan home”
“Who is the kidnapper?”
“Aaron.”
