“Who’s in there?! Come open this door!” A Male voice from outside yelled as he banged on the door. “If you don’t open up, we’ll break down this door!” Another Male voice screamed as the banging on the door increased. Aaron mumbled to himself as he scratched his head, turning to me he said,
“Kid, I will never forgive you for all this. Everything is all your fault! Your father did this because of you! Susan became rebellious because of you! You are a failure, just like the kid before you!”
“The kid before me? You know what, don’t ever forgive me. It doesn’t matter right now, the important thing is that all of us got out of this free.”
“That’s impossible, the police is already here.”
“Yes, the police are here, to get you... what if they find only me instead?”
“What are you talking about?”
“Once the police opens that door, I will be the only person they will find here.”
“How?”
“I will distract them while you escape through the window, I will tell them that I was the only person here and take all the blame for all this.”
Why should I trust you?”
“Trusting me is the only option you have right now.”
The plan seemed perfect, there was no way Aaron could say no to it. “Okay, we will follow your plan.” Aaron paused for some seconds, “if you betray me, I will kill you.” Aaron glared at me as he made that last sentence. The state was cold. Aaron stood up, took out a key from his pocket and unlocked the bounds on me. “You will leave her here, come back and get her after I escape.” Aaron said, pointing at Susan who still lay on thefloor. Aaron started walking to the window, the moment he turned his back to me, a burst of energy ran right through my body like electricity as I picked up the metallic chair and hammered it Aaron’s skull. I dropped the chair to the ground, the people outside was still banging on the door. Not a single muscle on Aaron's body moved as he lay on the floor. The bunch of keys laid on the floor right beside the pistol, I picked up the key and unlocked the bound on Susan with it. I lifted Susan up and rested her on my left shoulder, I the first step with her but fell down when I tried to take the second step. I got up, dragged her, he weight weighed on me. I had no energy in me due to the fact that I haven’t eaten anything all day. “I knew you will come Andrew,” Susan’s voice was so low that it sounded like the wind was whispering to me. “Thank you Andrew, thank you so much.” I didn’t have to look at Susan to know that she was crying. I clenched my fist so tight that blood wouldn’t be able to flow through my fist into my palms, as I rose to my feet the second time. My teeth grinded against each other with each step I took. I headed for the door, everything I saw was spinning, it was throwing me off balance. The door got nearer, my fingers was almost touching it. I felt something pierce through my thigh, followed by the deafening sound of a gunshot. I fell to the ground, blood pumped out of my thigh in gallons. Even though I felt no pain, my leg refused to tiltno matter how hard I tried to move it.
The door busted open, police officers trooped into the cabin with each holding an Ak47. “I told you I will kill you if you betray me!” Aaron screamed. “Drop your weapon!” The police officers words echoed. Aaron pulled the trigger, Susan threw herself in front of me, no bullet was fired. “Shit!” The word slipped out of Aaron’s mouth before the police officers opened fire and rained bullets on him. The bullets tore through him laying waste to him.Susan threw her arm around me as she laid beside me, then she looked deep into my eyes, her blue eyes was always alluring to look at, so I stared back. The sound of the gunshots around me faded, slowly it became mute, all I saw was the universe trapped in her eyes. I pulled her closer to myself for a deep hug, my vision became fuzzy an after a few second I blacked out.
I woke up in a hospital bed, Susan was seated right by me with her head resting on the bed. I angled my elbow on the bed and lifted myself up. Susan raised her head, “You are finally awake,” she whispered.
“How long have I been unconscious?”
“It’s been two days.”
“What of my family?”
“I haven’t seen them, I even went to your house but no one was there. Do they move?”
“I don’t know.”
I lay back on the bed, “How are you feeling?” I asked. “I am doing great, thanks to you. Andrew, you can come stay with me until you recover fully.” Susan said. Her face became clouded with worry when she said,
“What if something happened to your family?”
“You shouldn’t be saying that to someone that just woke up.” Kelvin said as he walked in.
“Andrew I am so sorry for doubting you for once.” Kelvin added.
“It’s okay,” I said as I relaxed my beck on the bed. Kelvin placed his hand on my shoulder, “don’t worry, I will help you find your parents.” He talked with a comforting smile on his face. “We, will help you find your parents.” Susan added with a frown on her face. The reassurance I got from them was warm, still deep down I knew that this is something I have to do alone. It felt like another puzzle I had to solve, and I will be broken if any of them got hurt trying to help me. I closed my eyes and let out a smile, things were beginning to get interesting.
