Chapter 2: Say, What?
"How about you become a bodyguard?"
Sam blanched, not expecting that.
"You two seriously think that today's society will accept female underage bodyguards?!"
They just arrived at their house. Her parents turned back and stared at her blankly, not getting why she was making such a fuss.
Sam threw her hands up in exasperation, shaking her head in disbelief that her parents didn't even understand that. How could they be so ignorant of today's society?
They didn't push the topic any further at home, and that night, Sam pondered whether being a bodyguard was a good idea or not.
She honestly probably won't even be able to get hired anyway even if she did decide to pursue that career path. But she didn't mind the idea of wearing a crisp suit while fighting, basically doing what she loved to with payment.
As long as her client was female. She'd never work for one of those rich and stupid men who thought that money could buy anything. Plus, she wouldn't have to risk unwanted flirting. The payment was relatively high for bodyguards.
Maybe I'll give it a try, Sam thought as she drifted off.
The next day, as they were having breakfast, Sam decided to bring up the subject.
"So, Mom and Dad, I thought about what you guys suggested yesterday about me becoming a bodyguard. Maybe I could give it a try, under certain conditions."
That perked her parents' attention, and her mother asked, "Under what conditions?"
"That my client be a female since I don't want to work alongside a male, and that I can quit whenever I want to."
"Well," Her mother said, "We can certainly manage the first part, but not the second. Most companies require you to sign at least a yearlong contract, meaning that you'd work for them for a year."
"Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Well, just the first condition then, I guess." Sam shrugged.
Her parents seemed as though they'd rehearsed this beforehand. "Wonderful! Now, we already have a possible client in mind."
"Who is it?"
"Bethany Rodrigo. You've heard of her, right? She's currently hiring bodyguards, regardless of their age as long as they're at least 16, and experience."
"Oh, you mean the one next in line for that big corporation?"
"Yes, she's the one."
"Guess I better start preparing my resume then," Her parents had clearly done research before talking to her about it.
"You only need to fill in their online form and you'll receive an email for an interview if they're interested in hiring you. No need for a resume. Plus, what would you even write on your resume anyway? You have no credentials or experience whatsoever."
"Yeah, yeah, alright. Send me the link for the form thing then."
When Sam went to school, she noticed that Marc wasn't there. Serves him right. He deserved at last a week-long suspension. She didn't doubt that he would try to get back at her once he came back and was healed, but she was well prepared. This wasn't the first time she had to fight some idiot who thought that all men should rule over women.
They were actually all quite weak, and Sam didn't get what made them so self-confident. Guess it's just interesting their DNA, she decided.
Sam had started learning karate at the ripe age of 4, so you can probably imagine how good at fighting she was after over 12 years of practice. She already had a black belt and was qualified to teach others, but she didn't have the patience to do so.
During her free period, she filled out the form on her phone. It was quite simple and only asked for the most basic information. She was starting to think this might be some sort of scam, what kind of company was this basic? So, she decided to do some research on Bethany Rodrigo. Sure, Sam had heard of her before, but never really knew what she did and such.
It turns out that her father, Robert Rodrigo, was the founder and current CEO of Rodrigo Corps. United. It was supposed to be this big company that specialized in the law and stuff like that. Certainly nothing that interested Sam. So, turns out it is pretty legit, she thought to herself.
Suddenly, her phone rang, and she saw that it was a notification saying that she had a new email. She clicked it open and saw that it was from Rodrigo Corps. United. The email said that they were interested in hiring her, and if she wanted to meet her in person for an interview.
Sam's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, she'd only submitted the form five minutes ago. Just how desperate were they? Or were they just fast? Nevertheless, it seemed that she had a chance.
