A man stared up at the full moon illuminating the night. Its light piercing even the darkest corners, leaving almost no place to hide. Sharp pain in his head and left arm were accompanied by blood running down the arm and face. His vision starting to blur, he found it was becoming hard to stand. He lifted his left hand and ran it through his thick black hair, smearing a little blood. With his right hand, he pulled out a cigarette, placed it in his mouth, and slid to the ground with a thud. With his back against a cold brick wall, he pulled his lighter out of the breast pocket of his white button up. He struggled to light the cigarette due to the lack of fluid in the lighter. After multiple tries, he finally managed to light it. The man took a deep drag of his cigarette and let it out slowly. The smoke was even more visible as it mingled with his breath on this cold late Autumn evening. Slowly he removed his cigarette and held it with his right hand. Rather than bringing it up for another drag, he stared at it blankly. After a few moments, he lifted the cigarette back up to his mouth, and paused.
"Ah, what should I do?"
His breath faltered while he finished his cigarette in silence, allowing tears to silently stream down his face.
He was past the point of no return. There was no way to rectify the situation. What was done was done. The only thing he could do now was do his best to move forward.
No longer would he walk the path of shadows. He had been the number one assassin for The Choi Group since he was a boy. At the age of 8, the boss, Choi Dae-Hyun, took him in when he was alone on the street. His given name meaning "wise man", and his family name meaning "overseer of the mountain". The perfect name for a man running The Choi Group, one of the top 3 mafia groups in Seoul. Truthfully, many mafia families had gone straight (at least in the public eye), and become their own group, company, or other corporation. Known for their cunning and vicious ways, The Choi Group reigned at the top.
The man had never been given a name. His boss and the men always called him, "Null". To Choi Dae Hyun and his men, there was no point in giving a nameless, expendable, kid a name. However, over the years he became the right-hand man to the boss. As such, the name, Null, came to be his moniker. If Null was sent, the result was always the same. There was nowhere to hide, and no point in trying to run. Null took out his target with a cold, unfeeling expression, and was successful every time.
Many years went by, and Null was now a 26-year-old man. After much thought and deliberation, the man decided it was time to leave The Choi Group.
