The Lost Forest

Chapter Five

Chapter Five

Aug 27, 2023

It all happened so fast. One moment the train was making its way to Mica, only a few minutes away from its destination, and the next the train was flying through the air like a child’s mere plaything.

Smoke and fire filled the air as hundreds of screams were heard throughout the area.

One of the greatest engineering innovations is now destroyed.

Covering her mouth and nose with her left limb,Elyn began to search for any survivors or blue orbs. Toll Keeper and Lillian had to be alive, right? They wouldn’t leave her, not like this. All three of them would walk away from this tragedy.

To not waste too much energy,Elyn walked slowly, scanning through the smoke, trying to find anyone.

The smoke itself seemed to be never-ending,almost like someone or something was trying to keep Elyn hidden, but for what reason?

"Elly." A voice called out; it sounded familiar, like she had heard it before. Elyn stood still to hopefully gain a clue as to where the voice came from.

Elyn, it’s me. The voice called out again; upon careful inspection, the voice sounded like it came from a child.

Elyn, please come find me.

Elias, is that you? Elyn asked as she kept walking, her mouth still covered, using the voice to guide her.

Elly, it’s me, Elias; please come find me."

There were only a few times in which the young guardian cried. The first was when she got her first shot; the mean doctor tricked her with a tasty treat. The second was when Elias and their friends played hide and seek, and Elyn was pricked by a thorny bush. The third was when their grandfather died; if it wasn’t for him, Elyn would have never learned such a valuable skill. This was the fourth time she heard her brother’s voice, Elias. Oh,Elias oh how she longed to hear his voice.

Elias, where are you? She was still walking.

"I’m in the middle; I can see both Adamas and Famuria. Elias answered.

The Inbetween. Elyn repeated at this point that she clearly has tunnel vision at the moment.

" Elly It's beautiful; it's like our forest back home. Elly,  there are so many different creatures and places here. Elias answered, and there was a small hint of excitement in his voice.

Really, then we can explore together when I find you. Elyn smiled as more tears fell down her face.

This was supposed to be a standard mission: Elyn finds the orbs and guides them to the portal, back home to Famuria.

TollKeeper looked through his surroundings, metal and bones mixed with a symphony of screams. Getting up from the wreckage, Tollkeeper began his search for Elyn. She was still alive. The tollkeeper refused to believe she was dead, and Elly wouldn’t give up so easily.

Lillian, the tollkeeper said, opening a small portal. If Lillian can locate where Elyn is, he could teleport to her instantly.

Lillian, it’s urgent, TollKeeper yelled in slight desperation. Watching over Elyn was his main purpose in life. Granted, Tollkeeper didn’t understand why the Old Ones were invested in the teen, but his job was to protect her.

Lillian, wake up. He said

TollKeeper sighed as he began to walk around. Perhaps Lillian would wake up and help with the search for Elyn. Damn it, he needed her now.

Lillian, it’s an emergency. He cried out a tiny hint of desperation; this was a new feeling. The tollkeeper didn’t like this feeling. Deep down, TollKeeper knew that his fae would always be linked to him,but losing Elyn has brought him a bit on edge.

Lilli, a familiar smell, ambushed TollKeeper. The scent of rotten fruit evolved into something more grotesque and unpleasant.

In a quick moment, a small portal formed. It was Lillian, who was just a tad groggy, trying to wake up from her nap.

Master you." The fae stopped, every fiber in her body trying its best not to gag. The combination of stench and smoke blinded Lillian completely.

"Master… W-w-w-what's going on? Lillian asked

"We have to find Elyn; I'll explain what happened afterwards. Naaririel explained.

With that simple explanation, Lillian quickly opened another portal and left.
