Calixa was quick to make friends in the human realm, yet none of her companions were... Well, human. Tiefling, dragonborn, genasi, but not human. When she realized they had a job to help people underground, she immediately volunteered - at home, she had heard that the Midnight Sun would hide underground frequently, making it the only lead she had.
And yet, after months, they found nothing.
She wasted so much time... for nothing.
Even the people on the surface knew nothing.
After their adventures, she left her companions, and made her way to an inn, letting herself indulge in a rather weak human drink in frustration.
That's when she was approached silently, only alerted by a sudden hand on her arm.
Calixa took the intruders wrist and twisted it behind their back, immobilizing them quickly.
"Easy, your majesty," they said in her home tonuge.
Calixa stilled, surprised. "You know of me?"
"We are in public, people are staring, please play along".
She groaned and let go, which immediately prompted the stranger to laugh. "Spirits, darling, I know you've been jumpy but you don't have to harass me every time I meet you after a days work! I've missed you!" He took her by the hand and kissed the back of it, before he led her up a flight of stairs. She was surprised by how cold his hands and lips were, and didn't have the energy to question his ruse.
Calixa twisted her arm away from his once she heard a door click behind her. "What in the good Suns' good light do you want?"
"To warn you, your highness. We were simply in... Unfavorable company".
"As yourself?"
The man had a nice laugh, like the crunch of fresh snow.
"You are from the winter court..." she realized with a groan. "You can only bring bad news."
"Only? No. Of course not, my lady. Yet I'm afraid I do bring some concern this time."
Calixa sat on the floor of the room, inviting him to do the same. "What is it?"
"The Midnight Sun aren't in this realm. You will not find them here. However, the one who they are inspired by is..."
She wasn't surprised that this was what the interaction was about. "How is it you know this?"
"Because I was once their messenger".
