His eyes still weak and tired, but he smiled when Ellava woke up, he held onto her, "I'm glad that you're alright." She felt woozy, unsurprisingly, she looked at him blankly, and then looked around the room.
"What...happened...?" She held onto her head, trying to remember yesterday.
"That's what I want to know, I was on my way back when I heard what sounds like a bomb going off."
That seemed to click in her brain, "Oh right, after you left, there were so many people that tried to take the spear for themselves yesterday...it was one group and after I defeated them...another group showed up. I was too tired to face them off normally so I did something I would've rather avoided."
Gareicht turned behind him, seeing the limp body that was burned.
"Isn't the barrier supposed to keep them out? This happened last time too with Yzith and her group."
"Perhaps the barrier is weakening...? I'm not sure though." Her uncertainties showed on her face, "But the spell I used was ancient and strong...I'm surprised to be awake right now."
"You're awake because I gave you some of my mana, it was so weak yesterday and you were so cold."
"You gave me some of your mana...?" Her eyes went wide, "H-how...?"
"It was basically the second time I gave you CPR if that's what you mean...?"
So he kissed me...? Not once but twice...? Her face flushed, to take her mind off of it, she called forth her spear and used it as an amplifier to clean up this mess.
Not noticing her plight, he said, "I'll go check these guys and see if they're still alive."
She nodded without turning around, I need to get used to physical contact soon.
He checked the guy that was right in front, his body was charred--there was no sign of life in him, when he went to check for a pulse the curse signs on Gareicht's body glowed and stole whatever mana that body had left. He felt confused for a moment, and gulped.
He carefully grabbed the body, and brought it outside, they showed some burn marks, but they were still alive, a bit weak, but alive. He went up to one and woke him up.
"Hey." Gareicht said in a clear tone, the guy groaned and got up.
The guy felt his head, "Wha...?"
"I'll keep you up to date, you guys lost, your leader or whomever this is, is burned to cinders. So take him and the rest of your group with you."
"What...?" He looked down at the charred corpse in Gareicht's hands, "Brother!"
The guy clenched his teeth and looked back in the cathedral, Gareicht put his hand out to stop him, "I'm going to stop you right there. You can go now and live, or if you decide to go back in there, she could very well use that spell again and you can go meet your brother wherever he is now. Your choice."
The guy looked down at his brother's corpse, and hugged him tightly, the animosity in his eyes didn't disappear but he turned.
"They should wake up on their own...I need some time alone."
After the guy was out of sight, Gareicht went to the rest of the group to wake them up, told them the same thing, and they left with the same animosity in their eyes.
He sighed and cracked his neck.
"Finally they're all gone." He went back inside, and the cathedral's ground floor was restored to normal.
To lighten the mood he went up to her and said, "So, do you still want those swimming lessons?"
It made her laugh a bit, "Of course, I'll start making the swimwear tomorrow, I just want an easy rest day."
"Agreed." He smiled, closed his eyes and drifted off.
"Gareicht?" She noticed that he dozed off and then smiled, He did tell me he gave me mana to recover, I should let him sleep. She stayed close, and ended up drifting off herself.
That night, one could hear the shuffling outside, as they creaked the door open, quietly tip-toeing into the building, closer and closer to Gareicht and Ellava. They lifted up their weapon, about to dive it down, when Gareicht's face lifted, his hand catching the weapon. His face was menacing.
"Leave now pest, don't bother my host. I can't have him dying on me yet."
The voice was layered and echoing, as if it was the deepest of darkness.
This sent shivers down the attacker's spine, but he still tried again to attack.
"I warned you, you are now sentenced to becoming mana dust, fool." 'Gareicht' lifted his hand and started to pull the mystery man closer to him, until he was nothing more than a pile of ashes.
Whomever was in control of Gareicht turned to Ellava and chuckled, "Hello spear-bearer, it's nice to see you after more than 2,000 years."
He leaned in to touch her, when her spear came forth and shined.
"And so it appears, always trying to pretend to be the good guy. No harm will come to your bearer, yet, but once my markings complete this body...then it'll be another story."
"If you think she'll let you take over him you're in for a surprise." The spear communicated back via telepathy.
"And so we shall see," 'Gareicht' smiled, closed his eyes and the real Gareicht resurfaced, still asleep, unaware of what just happened.
I'm afraid, that the hurdles will be too great for you both to bear, but if you combine your strength we may just win in the end, but sleep for now my children, The spear then dropped down to the floor, staying right beside them, projecting a barrier over them until they rise the next morning.
