Chapter 6: Masquerade Festival Part 1
Majesty’s POV
As the six dragons approached Silverlya from their gorgeous meadow home, Majesty couldn’t help but allow his thoughts to drift back to that dream he had the previous night. He remembered the girl with long white hair that was as beautiful as snow falling on a winter day and whose figure was bathed gracefully in the moonlight. His mind fell back on those ominous words she whispered to him in that hellish nightmare that someone was watching and that it wouldn’t be long before this person was soon watching them. Majesty couldn’t help but wonder in that moment if it would have been better if he hadn’t told Amethyst to keep it a secret. Maybe it would have been the right choice to tell the others, but he pushed those thoughts aside since the last thing Majesty wanted was to drive the feeling of worry into them when it wasn’t necessary. After all, it was just a silly nightmare, and a dream couldn’t hurt someone, even if it contained the same mysterious girl who constantly haunted him. But, the mere memory of the girl’s haunting words stayed with him regardless of how he tried not to think about it. No matter how hard Majesty tried, for some reason, he couldn’t shake the feeling that dream left him with that made him think that the nightmare he had was just more than just a figment of his imagination.
As soon as they arrived in the main plaza of Silverlya, the sound of the sweet melody of the violin accompanied by the soft tone of the piano caused the thoughts of his nightmare to leave him for now. But the beautiful melody wasn’t the only thing that stole the thoughts of his nightmare like a thief in the night; it was also the warmth of Lapis’s hand when she soon grabbed his hand.
“Hey, you doing good? You’ve looked kind of pale all morning?” Lapis said with a bit of concern, lacing her words as she looked up at him with those blue eyes that reminded him of the ocean.
“Oh, that. Well, I kind of had a bad dream about a giant lizard that wanted to eat me, which made me not sleep very well,” Majesty said with a playful smile on his lips, and his joke caused a giggle to leave Lapis’s lips.
“I think Adrian is more terrifying than some giant lizard,” Lapis playfully whispered to Majesty, who smiled at her. However, it wasn’t long before a small blush dusted her cheeks before she took multiple small glances at him.
“If you couldn’t sleep well last night, I could’ve snuggled next to you, and that might’ve helped your nightmare not return,” Lapis said with a cute shyness to her tone, and just her words and small glances were enough to drive a small blush out of Majesty that dusted his cheeks.
“Now that I think about it, it probably would’ve helped; I guess I missed out,” Majesty said, trying not to act cutely flustered by what she said as a soft chuckle left his lips.
“Wow~ such flirty glances,” Amethyst added in as she walked alongside Lapis with a grin on her lips.
“Don’t forget about the flirty commentary. Seriously, just kiss already,” Tanzanite said as he added on to what his sister said with a playfulness to his words as he walked alongside Majesty with a grin.
“Wha…I would never..,” Majesty said, completely flustered as a darker blush dusted his cheeks as he struggled to find the right words at that moment.
“E-exactly as Majesty said, you’re just im-imagining things,” Lapis stuttered out as a darker blush coated her cheeks that matched Majesty’s, who was still blushing.
“Says the girl still holding his hand,” Amethyst pointed out as she and her brother still decided to tease them.
“You two act more like a couple that it isn’t even funny,” Tanzanite teased, which caused both Lapis and Majesty to whine at both Tanzanite and Amethyst and chase them around to get them to stop teasing them; it wasn’t like they were a couple, but the siblings would disagree with that.
“I feel like a babysitter right now; also, I heard that Lapis. I swear none of you can behave yourselves,” Adrian said as he pinched the bridge of his nose before sighing in annoyance.
“Oh, come on, lighten up, Mr. Grumpypants. Today is a fun event; you should try and be less grumpy,” Skyla said beside him before she soon poked Adrian’s cheek with her pointer finger, which made him frown.
“On second thought, you’re worse,” Adrian said with a smirk since he could already tell that Skyla’s blood was boiling while her eyebrow twitched for a brief moment in annoyance after she heard his comment.
“How dare you say I’m worse than them! You’re just upset that I’m right about you always being grumpy and moody,” Skyla said with an unhappy tone to her voice that was paired with a big frown on her lips as she looked over at him.
“If I’m grumpy, then I guess that makes you annoying,” Adrian said smugly before moving forward cause he knew Skyla all too well, and he would rather not come into contact with one of her punches.
“Hey, you get back here! You’re so gonna pay for saying that,” Skyla yelled with anger, lacing her voice as she chased after Adrian with a raised fist while he was snickering at her.
“Pfft, and they call us the misbehaved ones,” Tanzanite said with a chuckle as a smile soon formed on his lips.
It wasn’t long before the group found themselves at the mask stand that was displaying a variety of fancy-looking masquerade masks that were adorned with feathers, sequins, and glittering jewels in various colors. This stand also offered spells to change a person’s outfit to fit the masquerade festival event. The masquerade festival event was taking place throughout the entire kingdom where people were dancing with masks concealing their identity to the sweet melody that was filling the air that was accompanied by various stands, some being food, while others had cute fluffy stuffed animals that someone likely could buy for their date or just wanted something cute to place within their room. This event was also special; spells were placed on people, and the magic changed their outfits to fancy dresses in various colors or black suits as soon as they chose a mask they liked. The spells would wear off after the event was over, and those who attended the event were supposed to remove their masks at midnight to reveal their identities.
Majesty was currently wearing a black suit along with a silver mask, and Lapis couldn’t help but think how handsome he looked at that moment since it wasn’t like she always got to see Majesty in formal wear.
“Well, how did I look? Also, you look really nice in a black suit,” Lapis said with a small blush on her cheeks as she looked over at Majesty. She was currently wearing a dark blue dress along with a dark blue mask that complimented her long, straight blue hair.
“Oh, you think so? Also, you look really pretty in that dress,” Majesty said, trying not to blush as he looked over at Lapis.
“Friendddds, sure~ That’s believable,” Tanzanite coughed out loud before Majesty whined at him.
“Just cut it out already,” Majesty said, but despite him saying this, it was clear as day that he had feelings for Lapis, and she had feelings for him.
“Yeahh~ Never,” Amethyst said with a playful grin that only made Majesty and Lapis pout at her. Amethyst currently wore a light purple dress along with a light purple mask that highlighted her dark purple hair, while Tanzanite wore a black suit with the same mask as his sister.
“Say, how do I look, Adrian? Pretty adorable, right,” Skyla said with confidence as she currently wore a dark teal dress along with a mask that was the same color as her dress, which made her light teal hair stand out more.
Adrian was currently wearing a black suit and had chosen to wear a black mask that had gold around the edges. Upon hearing Skyla’s voice, he turned his head to look over at her before he leaned forward, “You’re right, you are pretty cute…for a brat,” Adrian grinned devishly since he made it seem like he was going to give her a compliment.
“Brat! That’s it, blondie, you’re so going to face my wrath!” Skyla threatened before she soon chased around Adrian, who was just laughing at her reaction, and it was clear he was all too happy with the angry reaction he was able to get out of her.
Not too far from the group stood Marina in a bright orange dress along with an orange mask that paired nicely with her long brown hair that was slightly wavy.
“I can’t believe he’s here, and he looks so cute too. Why couldn’t I have just found the right words and asked him out to this event? But I got too nervous,” Marina whined as she was drowning in her misery.
“Well, nothing is stopping you from asking him if he would like to dance with you; I mean, the music hasn’t picked up just yet, so you have plenty of time to plot out your next moves,” Lance said beside her, he was a handsome young man with short light brown hair that was highlighted by his dark green eyes. He was currently wearing a black suit along with a black mask that had silver around the edges.
“I swear, I don’t know what I would do without your friendship, Lance. I’ll do it. I’ll ask him to dance with me,” Marina said, clenching her hands into fists as she beamed with a newfound confidence.
“But I can’t be here to watch the entire thing since I do have to watch my family’s stuffed animal stand, and we’re doing pretty good on sales,” Lance said with a happy smile as he looked over at his friend Marina.
“Right, I almost forgot; I was enjoying your company too much. But you should have enough to see things play out, right? I still need help,” Marina whined at Lance as she now tugged on his arm.
“Alright, alright, I’ll help you out for a while longer. Don’t worry, you’ll get that dance,” Lance said with a smile as he allowed Marina to drag him off.
Things seemed so serene as if nothing could go wrong; the peacefulness of the event was almost like a lullaby that could lull someone to sleep. However, that very peace wouldn’t last forever. It was fragile in his presence, for he had a plan. He was watching from within the shadows and plotting his next move that would lead to him to soon be watching them.
“This can’t be happening right now! It feels just like that nightmare”
