People may think that being loyal is a good thing but in times like these, one can never be too loyal to others.  Sooner or later, one of them will turn on you. But Basil was certain Kel couldn't see the truth. They'd both be better off if they left Sunny alone and stayed away from each other forever. But of course, Kel was too attached to Sunny. That's okay, once Basil gets rid of them Kel will learn to get over them.  Basil just hopes that Sunny won't say anything to anyone. Basil doesn't want anyone to know. He's already done enough damage as it is. He can handle this. At least, he thinks he can. He doesn't know about the tremendous guilt that he's about to feel. But that doesn't come until he finally kills Sunny. Although indirectly, he was still the cause of it.
